Bryan:

You're very welcome. I'm glad I could make your day a little brighter. Every little bit of "sunshine" helps in our ever so gray city. ;-)

Critter

P.S.

I'm a "she" Critter. :-)

Andrew sez, " Why don't you just call us communists?"

Not till after you graduate from Joanie's first grade class.

Scrilla

Styble,

Ask Phil V who I am.
Firstly, don't give these people personal information about your life. Many of them are vicious and petty. Perhaps even the blogger himself.

sparky

Scrilla is just mad that Michael got to go visit Ken Schram and he didnt..

Shaniqua

Is Styble the male equivalent of Erin Hart? Erin would always learn a new word every week and try to use it in a sentence at least once a day. Styble is just another schmuck brought in to play his tune on the sinking ship.

Fremont

And, after you ask Phil V, please let us know who Scrilla really is...it's okay to give personal information about HIS life.

Tommy008

Brian, I'm the unnamed individual that you excoriated in your anal-retentive way about getting Pate's return date wrong. Excuuuse me. If you read my posts , you noticed that I refrained from trashing you even though you have many irritating faults. I even said somehting positive about you. I noticed you took a cheap shot at Blatherwatch for having "meanspirited" posters about KIRO or whatever the word was you used. You're not shy about trashing people you don't care for on the air, so why should we be shy about trashing poeple at KIRO that we feel deserve it. Or are you following Herr Pate's lead, a man who thinks that he's entitled to have an obnoxious attitude and persona but takes offense and cuts off any caller who dares to have one. Anyway, I won't bother to trash you, you're a small fish at KIRO. My fight is with Lou Pate- the sole remaining member of the Axis of Arrogance at the station, thanks to the long overdue cashiering of Erin Hart and Mike Webb.

Tommy008

By the way, Lou, if you're reading this- how are those Seahawks predictions working out for you? hahahahahahahahahaha jackass.

Bryan Styble

Dear Sir or Madam "Tommy008",

Thanks for your comments.

Bryan Styble, that guy who talks (and types!) far too often in the third-person is indeed a "small fish" at KIRO. And of course I remain humbled by the confidence that KIRO management has demonstrated in me since my KIRO debut in April 2005. It's flattering and an honor to have a world-class newstalk institution like KIRO recognize whatever hosting skill I've soaked up along the way since I first did this professionally in 1989.

Yep, I'm just little ol' Bryan, alright. But despite a dozen or so correct spellings of my name hereinabove (not to mention my regular invocation of my "Bryan with a Y on KIRO with a K" slogan while on the air), you still somehow managed to misspell it! I could have typed Mr./Ms. "Tommie008", but I took the trouble to actually read what you wrote, even if you are hiding behind an alias, like 98% of the rest of the people in cyberspace. [Curious aside: Why does virtually no one but me have the courage of their convictions to list their real names and locales herein, or anywhere else on the Internet, pray tell?]

Anyway, Mr./Ms. "Tommy008", as a matter of course, someone who reads (or, more pertinently herein, listens) inattentively is of less importance to this professional newstalker than those in the audience who accurately hear and quote what is said on my modest little-fish KIRO efforts.

You see, I figure if someone who misses easy things like that, it's futile to expect them to pick up on the nuance that I work mightily to infuse into my broadcasts.

As I often say, I'm "assiduously avoiding statement of the obvious" while on the air. Far too many others in this arcane business typically state conventional wisdom, and then have the audacity to not even acknowledge that so many others are saying the same thing.

I fear this avoiding-the-mainstreets approach makes me by definition a niche act in newstalk radio...but I'm laboring nonetheless to try to show why the Styble style isn't just different, but (for at least some and hopefully most listeners) even maybe better.

Sincerely,
BRYAN STYBLE/Seattle

My incorrect date for Lou's return means nothing, contrary to your again embarrassingly anal attempt to give it great significance. I'd apologize for mispelling your name but - naww. Don't think I will. That also has about as much significance as the wrong return date for Lou. You're really starting to get on my nerves.

Tommy008

BrYan, now you've stooped to trashing us ( Blatherwatch) on the air on tonight's broadcast? You're already guily of asininity and verbosity, please don't sink to demagogery. That's exactly what you're doing when you LIE and say that all of the bloggers here hate "everyone" on KIRO. I read several posts this weekend by fans of Dori and Erin Hart and Frank Shiers. I know fans of Dave Ross have posted in the past also I myself have posted here that Ron and Don and Shiers can be enjoyable to listen to. Funny, I don't recall seeing any fans of you or Lou Pate posting, though.

barkless in Seattle

Its obvious KIRO is lurching to the right. Moreover they are becomming unlistenable at any volume! They are putting hyper active day-sounding people like Styble and Ron-Don on at night which is just going to drive real night people away. These people need day slots.

Now that Erin is off (BAD MOVE) and Art Bell is on weekends I will listen to live radio on 570 and not dead radio on 710.

KIRO is self-destructing fast and needs to fire some management. Nothing they do is making any sense. A year from now these dudes will be spinning country and western.

Andrew

I have a theory about why most of us have more ill will than good will. We came here because at one time or another a host we liked suddenly disapeared, such as Fred Ebert, Allen Prell and now Erin Hart. People say what the fuck, I'm going to google fired host's name and here we are.

I'm still bitter about Prell getting axed and that episode makes me feel realy sorry for the temp hosts that seem to get dicked around even now such as Prococino and Shiers.

Proccocino has what is obviously his own 9-noon show but it isn't listed on the KIRO website. John Prococcino isn't even listed in the personalities section. Compare that with Newyok Vinnie had his name attached to his show from the very start. And he sucks. I can't imagine what kind of politics must go on behind the scene.

Then you have that whale Dori Monson who bragged that he's so comfortable in his job security that he can wear whatever he wants into the studio. I have also learned, by simply listening to his own show, that he makes over 100 grand a year.

I'm offended that I as a listener am made so aware, by both management and hosts, of the relative values KIRO places on the product they present us. I should never be able to so easily figure this stuff out. It's unprofessional and disrespectful. KIRO can't be that lazy and then get upset because a blog holds a mirror up to them. They deserve whatever we have to give them.

very good post Andrew

Fluffycat

Very well said, Andrew.

Critter

For once, Andrew, I agree with you 100%. Great post!

blathering michael

Thanks, Andrew, you get it and said it well. I get tired of that criticism- the R's do it to liberals too- that it's all hatred and resentment. We've all sat here and watched as our favorite station has been allowed to fall apart. It's saddening and maddening. Bryan Styble is the saddest of all- he's a symptom.

audioslave

Did low ratings have anything to do with the firing of any of them?

In the case of Vinnie, I think he's been there so long that he's some type of sacred cow; they don't want to get rid of him because he does the sports stuff, but there is no way he should have his own show.

Critter

audioslave said: "Did low ratings have anything to do with the firing of any of them?"

It's all about MONEY. And at this rate, KIRO is going to be penniless.

How in the name of all that's Holy did Lou Pate escape the cut? That's what I don't understand. I bet his own parents can't tollerate him!

Andrew

audioslave, My complaint isn't the fact that hosts get fired, it's how they get fired. They just disapear all of the sudden. Sometime it happens right in the middle of the week. We've found out that Prell was fired before his last rating was known.

Tony Ventrella had a nice send off and nobody was upset. It should be that way more often.

Bryan Styble

Dear Posters and Mr. Michael Hood:

When are you folks going to understand that programming decisions are hardly, if ever, made on political bases?

Hosts are often added or deleted in this industry for ratings, yes, but just as often for stylistic rationales. I've never in my career been told by ANY PD at ANY station what stances to take or back off on; the ONLY guidance/criticism I've EVER received from ANY PD anywhere is regarding how I conduct the broadcast.

And that's the way it should be, thankfully.

Sincerely,

When are you going to understand how to post on this site without your comment appearing twice? We're tolerant of folks (we're liberals after all) fucking this up once or twice, but as many times as you've done it, we're compelled to add native stupidity (along with burbled enunciation, verbosity and pomposity) to the list of your obvious personal liabilities.

joanie

I think Vinnie may be paid well and they need to do something with him. He's not that great at sports . . . he's really not that great at anything. Ventrella is doing more sports.

There are politics in everything. This Tom guy seems to have a sort relational way of doing business. Mike Webb said they were friends and even though the numbers were low, Webb was kept on. Someone posted earlier that Shiers is KA all over the place.

Doesn't seem like there's any clear direction. Still, Entercom is a corporation and they will want a bottom-line. It is very odd.

Having said all that, sorry, I still don't see why liberals can't have a few programs on the radio. I guess Air America is all we're entitled to. Hmmmmmm, Michael?

ExDem

I'm sure if the liberal talk shows could pull high enough ratings, they would have more shows. It is a business after all. The question to ponder is why no one cares to listen to liberal radio talk shows.

joanie

I thought I read that all the numbers for talk radio were down including right-wing stations. So, are they all going to disappear? If it is all about numbers, I guess so.

sparky

NO one listens to liberal radio? Who were the people who showed up to listen to Al Franken and again to Ed Shultz when they came to town? Who are all these people I see who have 1090 clings on their car windows?

sparky

Kewl...1090 is going to start streaming this month..now I dont have to worry about lame radio reception or the even lamer commercials...

joanie

Sparky,
I listened to the Al Franken Show last week on my computer but then tried to get it the next night and couldn't. So what's up with that? Actually, it was an Air America feed I think . . .

sparky

Hmm,,I havent tried the actual AA feed a night very often...why do any sites work some times and not others? Overall, it should be ok, but try the KPOJ feed if you cant connect directly to AA. And while you are at it, try the KGO feed at 10 pm weekdays if you are up then. I love live streaming...no commercials!

ExDem

Sparky,

There must not be that many people listening to AM1090. Out of curiosity, I called KVI, KTTH and KPTK last month and asked how much a 30 second ad would cost. In all time slots, KPTK was about half what KVI charged. KTTH wouldn't share their rates unless I would meet with one of their sales reps.

I'm no radio insider, but I'd guess that ad rates are probably a good measure of the size of the listening audience.

sparky

Could be!

Tommy008

Herr Pate returned to the KIRO airwaves last night with a loud cry of "Screw you all!" then preceded to mock the death of Coretta Scott King, joking, among other inanities, that he'd met Dr.King before he was married in a gay bar. This guy is basically no better than the racist, bullying, narrow-mindedly opinionated loudmouth putz that sits at the end of some ethnic bar in the Bronx and gets progressively meaner and nastier as the night wears on. To echo a previous poster- how the Hell were Hart and Webb fired without him getting cashiered too?

sparky

At least he is on in the middle of the night which limits his audience...he and Dori must be Butt Buddies...

larry

he went off again and even disssed his fill in and was discussing the possiblity of gett fired today. Who knows....

Critter

Tommy...

I talked about that to great lengths on the "what was worse than the Bush talk tonight" thread. I can't believe KIRO keeps Lou. The last line of my post I'm referring to explains what I think the reason is.

Tom Colvin

Critter- hahahaa That reason works for me. I can't think of any other reason he keeps Herr Pate on KIRO. Christ, a four hour repeating tapeloop for Purity Supplements has to get better rarings than that Neanderthal. Once he inevitably gets the boot, it will be straight down for him. All the station managers around the country have gotten wind of how he trashes his current radio town AND the station AND his fillin and other hosts at KIRO and won't touch him, even if they were impressed by his "talents", which they obviously aren't. Lou will slink back to NYC to live with Mama like the roof rat he is and try to get parttime work in construction. Evenings will be filled at the end of that little neighborhood bar in his old Mafia neighborhood in the Bronx, where he'll run his mouth loudly and obnoxiously, ranting about Seattle and black people.

joanie

One can only hope . . . :)

Critter

From your lips to God's ears, Tom! :-)

Erin Hart is a moron and when morons speak the majority of the people don't listen and when the majority of the people don't listen then you get fired. It's that simple. I am a conservative, but I can say that I do like listening to Dave Ross because I can tell he puts thought into his arguements. With Erin Hart and Mike Webb you can tell they are blinded by pure hate and therefore it really makes their shows seem pretty moronic. Good riddance to bad rubbish."

Sparky's post is a bit harsher than what I would have written, but essentially his view makes good sense.

A really good talk show host will not pontificate a viewpoint and slam down hard any opposing point of view.

Both erin hart and mike webb routinely pontificated and they both slammed any caller who dared present another point of view.

I never heard either hart or webb
respectfully disagree ... both webb and hart had very similar styles that way and it was rubbish talk radio.

With dave ross and dori monson and bryan styble, callers are allowed to have their own point of view and are allowed to communicate that viewpoint without being slammed.

That's a better format, IMHO.

sparky

Psst...Mac Tyler

Sparky is a "she"

I did not post that comment about Erin..that was Adam. On this blog the name of the person posting is under the post, separated by a dotted line.

You're welcome.

Mac Tyler wrote:

Excuse me? You must be talking about Lou Pate. The minute he detects a difference of opinion, he calls them stupid and anything else he can think of and hangs up. I've never heard Erin do that.

Critter

Hopefully, Erin and Mike will find a place at Air America. I miss them both!

mac tyler

Critter, you are both partially right and (imho) for the most part wrong.

Lou Pate also insults his callers when his callers do not agree with his stated viewpoint.

But Lou Pate bas been very mild potatoes compared to the way that Erin Hart and Mike Webb routinely slammed down callers who dared offer a different viewpoint.

Mike Webb: "God Damned Idiot" slam. Erin Hart: (with a shrill squeal) "Oh shame on you" slam.

That sort of thing was quite common with them both. And the quotes are precise. And were common.

I sure do detect a bit of liberal bias (which is fine and understandable) in your defense of Erin Hart and Mike Webb ... and you are probably right, Air America would be a most excellent place for them both.

I very much appreciate the way Dave Ross presents his liberal views ... with good humor, and never with a slam against another viewpoint, and always with respectful cordial radio manners.

Mike Webb and Erin Hart would be great as co-hosts on a new Air America Radio Show ...

Any idea for titles of this new Air America radio show?

"Kill your baby but love your dog liberal radio show"

"Get the man and steal from the insurance corporation liberal radio show"

"Believe as we believe and don't even dare to disagree with our holy politically correct view liberal radio show"
