"....The endorsement contracts generally run for a longer period than standard contracts—a minimum of 13 weeks; if successful, for a year. They command a premium price because the advertiser has a personal spokesman, someone the listener will pay special attention to, and trusts...."

Well...with Dori being such an advertising whore, no wonder he can spew garbage and the station keeps him..he is their personal cash cow..er..bull.

What I'd like to know is, is there ANYONE Dori won't shill for? He puts Bill Yend to shame.

David Williams

Hmmm, your link to my Allan Prell demonstration story didn't work. Try this one instead.

What I want to know is were his ratings bad? Was firing his justifiable?

Andrew, his ratings were not great, but they were better than, say, Mike Webb's. And they were improving. He deserved better than what he got.

Allan's chapter is funny and entertaining. Yes, it reads much like he sounds on the air. Reminds me how much I enjoyed the show, but I'm afraid Allan is gone for good. At least around these parts.

As for Dori and his advertisements...hearing Dori and his annoying ads is one of the factors that has driven me away from KIRO. I was tired of hearing Dori from noon to three and I am tired of hearing him so frequently in every other time slot. I find myself making a mental note to avoid purchasing goods and services shilled by Dori because he is so annoying. I don't find him or his opinion credible. Why would I buy anything on Dori Monson's recommendation? Not likely to happen.

Back to Andrew's question and Prell, yeah, what were Allan's ratings? I don't remember reading hearing anything specifically about his ratings.

We'll he had said they were like a tiny fraction smaller than Dori's and that Dori had a ten year head start on him but that doesn't imply that either of their ratings are good or bad.

I'll bet Dori hangs out with the "sales weasels". Kisses their asses, and anything else that may require kissing, to keep in their good graces. Allen's comment on how buyers of “endorsement spots” hate to get phone calls was not wasted on me. Now, I'll be listening to Dori's spots.... Just to get the phone numbers.

Not a hater

You hater liberals just don't get it. And I don't think you ever will. People don't want to listen to your liberal drivel anymore. Washington will be a red state soon, and even sooner if you all moved far, far away!

Allan got railroaded, totally. Such a shame. There was room for him AND Dori. Too bad the station just didn't get it. I have to admit, that I rarely listen to KIRO anymore and that's from someone who had it on from 9 to 4 everyday.

Eric...you can run but ya can't hide....

I liked Allan at the beginning until I had the bad fortune to call in to his show and was on the receiving end of his vitrol and control when I dared disagree with him. After that, I heard him abuse a guest who was one of those "competition eaters". I concluded that Allan is a bully and kind of a prick. I likes to set callers up and slap them down with his finger on the kill button. What an intellectual coward. I stopped listening to his show (I'd been a regular KIRO listener for many years). My dread is that KIRO will move shallow "Ron and Don" to the morning slot. Geez. KIRO is not for children, there are enough stations that cater to them.
