Lump

Michael says "John Carlson (KVI m-f, 3-6p) called Sheehan a liar,"
How convenient of you to leave out the rest of this ladies history. I didn't see anything in your post about her comments about the Clinton administration.
With a mother like that, no wonder her son joined the army.

Gilgamesh

**With a mother like that, no wonder her son joined the army.**

"Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh
Totally motionless except for her heart
Mud flowed up into lump’s pyjammas
She totally confused all the passing piranhas"

or

"Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Oh my lump in the bed,
How I've missed you."

there now thats better.

Duane

Of course it is a tragedy to loose a son or daughter in any way. No one can ever feel the pain a parent feels when losing a child. Cindy Shehan's son joined the military VOLUNTARILY, so one has to assume he knew there were risks. And why aren't you curious about her change of heart or story?. Is it because her simpering whiny noises now fit your agenda more appropriately? You know damned well even if we pulled out of Iraq today you libs would still be bitching. And pleasse, don't forget Lying Baines Johnson regarding VietNam. Remember the "credility gap". That's exactly why he shocked and stunned his own party by NOT running for re-election.
Beat up on BUSH all you want. He's a MAN and probably remembers the old childhood saying..."sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me."

Lump

Gilgamesh says,
""Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Oh my lump in the bed,
How I've missed you."

there now thats better."
Huh? Are you my first X wife?

Lump

Gilgamesh says, ""Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Oh my lump in the bed,
How I've missed you."

Honey, is that you, my first ex-wife?

blathering michael

Lump, I don't conveniently leave out any of the scabrous talk pulling down this Gold Star mother, it's not the point...the Republicans are changing the subject. Why won't they,(you) substantively address the issues Sheehan and conservative military expert Phil Gold and many others bring up? It's because, fact is: Iraq is a bloody failure, dishonestly sold to the public, and all the king's horses can do is rough up the messenger.

Sheehan will be bruised and bloodied and forgotten soon enough, but there'll be more citizens asking more questions to replace her. The issue isn't her, it isn't Clinton, it's this misbegotten war, and those who lied us into it, failed in conducting it, and now can do nothing but defend it.

mndcrm

amen to that, the republicans have failed this country and the world BIG time. all they can do at this point is try and trash people because their spew has been rehashed so many times even people in their own party are starting to try and find a way out. give them enough rope and they will hang themself's.

Scrilla

Uhhhmmmm....Is anyone paying attention to the constitution that's being written while under fire in Iraq? The upcoming referendum and the SECOND parliamentry election?
REGARDLESS of the reasons for the war, leaving NOW would condemn 25 million people to a full scale civil war (15 Iraqi dead per day is a simmering civil war. Lincoln called it 'the arithmetic'). Leaving would, absolutely, make it worse. The quickest way to squander Specialist Sheehan's life would be to follow his mother's advice. Ironic eh?
Dead is dead. We can't rewind. Sharpshoot all you want about the WMD (lack of) evidence, but the future has to be about keeping a lid on ex-Baathists and Sadr types until the Iraqis can crawl themselves. Then we pack up and leave. Then we exploit the propaganda victory. Simple. The White House is horrible about the message. It's not "They want to take our freedom!" It should be, Free Arabs Won't Be Martyrs.

mndcrm

put toothpaste in the holes in the dam and run like hell? LOL-fricking idiots. iraq was better off the way it was with saddam compared to what it is going to turn into. i feel sorry for those that helped us there when we smile for the cameras and leave with the bloodbath that will follow. i place the bucket of blood at the feet of the republican party and the bush crime family. pure greed for power and money is what it is all about.

Lump

BM says " I don't conveniently leave out any of the scabrous talk pulling down this Gold Star mother, it's not the point...the Republicans are changing the subject." Sure you do to make your point. You state Carlson called her a liar and then you dropped it. She is on the record of talking the opposite when she met with Bush. Bush has met with dozens of grieving families and no such conduct has ever been alleged. On Carlson's program there were 2 instances of rebuttal by other grieving parents. She has been an anti-war whacko for several years. The media presents a total different profile, like yours, and perhaps this woman will be exposed as the nut case and liar she is. She certainly has a right as a grieving parent to make a statement about the conduct of the war. As for conservative Phillip Gold, I don't have a clue who he is. But, if he offered a different opinion, you'd not spend any time mentioning him at all. Iraq is not a bloody failure yet, but I agree with you it could become that. You can't fight a politically correct war and win. That is what happened in Viet Name when Johnson lost his balls and let McNammara screw it up. The mosques should have been leveled when the first shots were fired from them. As for the lies that got us here, what are they? The same old tired liberal bullshit? Weapons of mass destruction? Oil? Put those lies out there Michael and we'll see if they really are lies or just more gobbledy gook?
When the next attack comes on our soil, will you be down at the recruiting office to protect the country? Have you ever been in uniform? For those that make fun of chicken hawks, remember the opposite is chicken shit. And the next attack will come just as it did in 1993. Perhaps, jsut maybe, if the previous administration had done its job maybe we wouldn't have gotten to this stage. Knowing that there is not a democrat in office at least assures me that there will not be a white flag raised in surrender and then run away and hide as they are famous for doing. You're a pretty smart guy, but put the facts out with no spin and lets twirl them around.

sparky

Just when I think the Right (sic) cannot possibly stoop to a new low....
villifying a mom who lost her son in a stupid war built on lies, while holding up the Liar in Chief as some sort of hero....absolutely amazing.

Lump

Sparky sez, "villifying a mom who lost her son in a stupid war built on lies, while holding up the Liar in Chief as some sort of hero." Well Sparky, I'll make the same offer to you as I did to Michael. Throw them thar lies out there and lets chew the fat on em. Let's see if you got any balls.

Duane

Liberals never ever havd had BALLS. Fat, yes, balls, no.
But they more than made up for the lack of balls with very loud mouths and squeaky wheels.
They never use any substance to back up their flame throwing? Any wonder why the don't win elections....starting in 1994? They will lose more seats in '06 with the continuing rhetoric they are currently using. Tearing American down at every turn doesn't work....but, hey...GO HOWARD DEAN! Karl Rove could not have picked a better DNC head!
Peaking of Karl....nothing will come of his "scandal". John Roberts will be seated on the Supreme Court. Life is grand.

sparky

Sorry....not falling for that crap.
Bottom line...she sacrificed her
son.
And YOUR sacrifice has been______?

chris

And her son joining VOLUNTARILY? Yes he did but he and 1,800 others were LIED too about the reasons.

Let's face it, Bush' approval is in the dumper and anything his schills do on the side of the road in Crawford will provoke an even bigger jihad among the public. Carlson can call others liars but he joins a sad list of washed up hosts like Seagull in which they turn lying into their own virtuous cause.

All these neo-con hosts and pundits never lost a son or daughter in a war and most never served, but they are good are killing people . Hey Lump, maybe Harry Truman needs to come back and stuff an A Bomb up your neo-con ass.

sparky

Maureen said it better than I ever could:

It's amazing that the White House does not have the elementary shrewdness to have Mr. Bush simply walk down the driveway and hear the woman out, or invite her in for a cup of tea. But W., who has spent nearly 20 percent of his presidency at his ranch, is burrowed into his five-week vacation and two-hour daily workouts. He may be in great shape, but Iraq sure isn't.

It's hard to think of another president who lived in such meta-insulation. His rigidly controlled environment allows no chance encounters with anyone who disagrees. He never has to defend himself to anyone, and that is cognitively injurious. He's a populist who never meets people - an ordinary guy who clears brush, and brush is the only thing he talks to.
It's getting harder for the president to hide from the human consequences of his actions and to control human sentiment about the war by pulling a curtain over the 1,835 troops killed in Iraq; the more than 13,000 wounded, many shorn of limbs; and the number of slain Iraqi civilians - perhaps 25,000, or perhaps double or triple that. More people with impeccable credentials are coming forward to serve as a countervailing moral authority to challenge Mr. Bush.

Selectively humane, Mr. Bush justified his Iraq war by stressing the 9/11 losses. He emphasized the humanity of the Iraqis who desire freedom when his W.M.D. rationale vaporized.

But his humanitarianism will remain inhumane as long as he fails to understand that the moral authority of parents who bury children killed in Iraq is absolute.

JDB

Wouldn't it be nice if Bush stepped up to the mikes and said, "The War in Iraq is so important that I have convinced my two daughters to join the arm forces. We need more children of privlidge to step forward and to help lead us to victory."

Nah, who am I kidding, basic training would interfere with happy hour at TGI Fridays.

Lump

Chris says," Hey Lump, maybe Harry Truman needs to come back and stuff an A Bomb up your neo-con ass." Ah, Chris. You're such a breath of foulness. Just like a turd that floats up and stinks up the joint and then sinks back down. I'm surprised you can spell neocon because I know you haven't a clue what it means. It's been 3 years and 11 months since the trade center bombing, so something must be going right and I know it was not all the liberal weenies down on their knees waving the white flag protecting the country. And, isn't it nice to know that the rest of Casey Sheehan's family have now outed the whack job mother as promoting her own agenda? Keep that surrender talk going and soon you'll catch up with the French. No wonder you guys and gals can't win anything.

Sparky

So, when are you signing up Lump..I have said it before..Lump and all of the rest of you who think this war is great..why not make the ultimate patriotic move and go set off some bombs and shoot ya some guns in Iraq. Freedom isn't free!!..We are turning the corner!!..the insurgents are losing! Now is your chance to go be a part of history...

no? Ok, send your kids? No? I didn't think so..
So all you manly armchair soldiers sit back and trash a mom who lost her son....at least you're consistent.

Lump

Sparky sez,"So, when are you signing up Lump..I have said it before..Lump and all of the rest of you who think this war is great..why not make the ultimate patriotic move and go set off some bombs and shoot ya some guns in Iraq. Well Sparky, I want you to read this slow so you can understand what you read. I've already been there, done that. Have you? Probably not since most of your retoric comes from the white flag side. War is hell and I had wished there would never be another, but unfortunately other nations don't subscribe to that.I'm not a big fan of the way the war is going right now, and I'd rather see it get more agressive rather than sit back and wait for the Iraqis to take over. As far as this grieving mother goes, she at one time had the high ground, but since has been exposed as a nut case with a political agenda hiding behind her sons death. Today she is the mouthpiece for Moveon.Org. Now that all the loony tune leftys are showing up in Texas, it shows again that this is not about her sons death, but more the hate Bush agenda. It only shows the left has no shame.

sparky

hmm ok hold the phone...
while I dont completely disagree with what "sparky" wrote up above there..I didn't post that message.
I gave up a long time ago trying to convince you otherwise, Lump ( and Ex-dem and others.) It's a waste of my time and yours. We will have to agree to disagree on Bush, the war, and probably everything else I personally stand for. It's your right to believe what you will, even though I think you are wrong and that your party has us headed toward destruction.
For the person who is posting as me..knock it off.
