Friday oddems: honky whitesville; slime at the water's edge; neville chamberlain plays hardball; tiny, sick children; zucchini de ron; shrimp cocktails hired at KIRO; absolutely nothing about dori monson

~~ Unfortunately for KIRO fill-ins Frank Shiers and David Goldstein; these shrimp cocktails Shrinmp_1were hired during Passover to fill in for Ron & Don (m-f, 3-6p). "They're not kosher," said PD Rod Arquette, "but few in the R&D audience knew the difference."

~~ "You don't know what you're talking about." We've been trashing MSNBC's Chris Matthews lately because he gets spittle on his jaw when he talks, and what he's usually talking about generally reveals him to be a supercilious ass. But Thursday, we gotta hand it to you, Chris: you done good. KRLA talk host Kevin James came on to discuss Bush's pointed attack on the Democrats in the Knesset today, where he accused Barack Obama of the "appeasement" of terrorists, comparing him obliquely to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, British Conservative appeaser of Hitler. James, who's aKevinjameshardball blabbermouthed fool his own self, kept referring to Chamberlain until Matthews could take it no more. "What did Neville Chamberlain do wrong in 1939?" he demanded. James motored on without answering the question. Then Matthews went after him like a school marm on meth until he got James to finally admit he didn't know what the hell Chamberlain actually did in the hideous history he was trying to hang on Obama. "He's as bad as the White House Press Secretary that doesn't even know what the Cuban Missile Crisis was," Matthews said later. Kevin James is an attorney, and the exchange was utterly satisfying. The incident, which can be viewed here, was added almost immediately to James' Wikipedia entry found here.

Talk radio: do you have the stones to admit you were punked?

20generals_span1Can right-wing tools like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Dori Monson, Michael Medved, Glenn Beck even acknowledge that their so-called war coverage and commentary has been so severely compromised?

What are we talking about?

Sunday's New York Times took a little of the complex out of the military-industrial complex with David Barstow's lengthy, detailed exposure of how Bush and Rumsfeld's Pentagon used retired generals to serve as "objective" media military analysts while actually carrying administration's rosy interpretations of a failing war effort to talk radio, cable blab-shows and thenews outlets they work for.

(For an interactive overview, click here. Read the whole piece here.)

Even more despicable is how these alleged military heroes we've seen every day since 9-11 on teevee or on the radio have used the influence and access gained by playing in this farce.

These are the fat-assed militarists who accused the rest of us of dispatriotism, cut-and-run mentality, and not supporting the troops. In these documents we see all that patriotically correct self-righteousness is actually a collection of bullet-points they picked up from a Secretary of the Defense losing a war he never should have got into.

Monday oddems: zoophilia in the raw; logorrhea of the mouth; legs of codgers; albino anorectics, glenn beck's puking improves his ratings; 100% US choice black anus beef; stuart anderson; kris olinger; scott sutherland

~~ We meat again. Our BlatherMunch Sundays when we divert from the usual crap to write aboutMeatdress food and dining are going so well, we're getting all manner of mail. In recognition to our piece on barbecue, a reader sent a picture of this stunning little cocktail dress: MADE OF 100% US CHOICE GRADE A ANGUS BEEF! Local angle: It was a performance art piece done by Jane Sterbak for art patron, restaurateur, and rancher, Stuart Anderson. It's titled Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorectic, and was, for several years displayed in the Stuart Anderson's Black Angus Restaurant walk-in at Northgate near Seattle. It was later made into stroganoff, and donated to the Food Bank.

~~ David Goldstein will be in for Dave Ross (KIRO m-f, 9a-1p) this week and next. We're happy that Rod Arquette is keeping Goldy in the room... maybe there's a place for him down the line. Must have been all those calls, letters, and petitions.

~~ "You spoke, we listened." How refreshing! That's what they do at progressive AM760 in Denver when a station decision doesn't sit well with the listeners. After a big stink when Thom Hartmann was dropped, Kris Olinger, Clear Channel's Denver AM PD (and former KIRO PD) wrote, "We have listened to you and come up with the best solution possible." That was to bring him back, delayed in the 7-10p.

Heavy hundred 2008: local boys make good

Talkers_011It's that time of year when all heads turn toward The Oscars™ to the Heavy Hundred awards where Talkers Magazine, the self-proclaimed "Bible of Talk Radio and the New Talk Media," ranks the "100 most important hosts" every year.

As usual we're underwhelmed.

It's a quirky list; made to promote the magazine's influence in the industry; and to sell syndicators those gnarly full page ads to plump up the fragile egos of those perpetually needy talk hosts. It's dominated by conservatives, naturally.

What are the criteria? You've gotta be working plus, as the august editors always say, their "painstaking compilation" is based on courage, effort, impact, longevity  potential, ratings, recognition, revenue, service, talent and uniqueness.

In other words, they pull it out of their ass.

Glenn beck mocks "juan mccain"

Becks_blowing_world1 Listening to the slick and slithy Glenn Beck (KTTH m-f, 6-9a) last week, we're thinkin' this weakness that John McCain suffers with the party wingnut wing is delightfully problematic, and ain't going to stop anytime soon.

It bodes well for whichever Democrat gets to face the grouchy warmonger in the Fall. (We prefer our warmongers not grouchy, thank-you very much).

Beck mocks McCain as "Sen. Juan McCain," or "Mr. Mexico" and considers his sponsorship of the Senate immigration bill and that his national director of Hispanic outreach is a Mexican to be “an audacious slap in the face to the American people.”

Beck is still supporting Mitt "Varmints, if you will" Romney, the effete tycoon who so miserably fizzled despite spending millions on himself.

Hollerday Oddems: the young turks are gone, ron & don are forever, god has died; men in bras; orgasms in the news; stephanie miller; bob brinker, and michael the savage

Say_it_with_peroghies ~ Cenk Uygur said The Young Turks (KPTK m-f, 3-6a) will take amicable exit from Air America Cenk1Radio January 15. (No they didn't get fired for drinking a beer on air or bad mouthing Nancy Pelosi). Not sure what's up, but Cenk is upbeat on a podcast he made Monday- there are rumors of satellite, or full-time on YouTube, or some other kind of InterWeb doin's. Baroosk at Talking Radio writes: "The Young Turks never got much traction, despite the fact that there is not much competition in the early morning time period on liberal talk radio stations. Only 16 of the 50 plus stations that carry four or more AAR hosts picked up the Turks."
Michelle_malkinsm
~ For liberal men to ponder: If you knew that Michelle Malkin's angry face was exactly the same as her orgasm face, would you think any differently about her?

The David Boze Show starts today

1boze1The David Boze Show premiers today at 3p on KTTH. We'll definitely be giving it a listen.

KOMO's Dennis Kelly and other are asking: IIs this sudden programing development a reaction to last week's firing of Bryan Suits and movement of The Commentators to afternoon drive.

Dave has been up and coming for a while. He was a winner in what's being called the being called The Season of the Witch: Seattle newstalk lost two well-established local talk hosts in one week, and another well-known talker bit the dust.

Bryan Suits was fired from "Thee Talk Station," KVI; Dan Sytman was canned from "The Truth," KTTH. The Mark Fuhrman Show on KGA in Spokane was dropped Thursday.

Boze was the Dumb half of Dumb & Meaner, BlatherWatch's not-so-sober sobriquet for the late Sytman & Boze Show, early mornings on KTTH until last Friday. They were replaced by syndicated jerk, Glenn Beck.

Seattle arbitron ratings: liberal talk sucks, so does KVI- has everybody gone satellite?

RatingsThe Spring '07 Arbitron ratings book in the vital 25-54 demo for the Seattle market are in. And yikes!

~ Liberal talk KPTK is tanking across the board- down 66% overall.

Stephanie Miller (6-9a) lost 40%; Thom Hartmann (9a-12p) plunged 63%; Ed Shultz is in the bucket 68%; our Rachel Maddow is down 50%, and Randy Rhodes lost 33% of her audience. The only host who got over 1% of the audience was Mike Malloy- and even he dove 64%. Has everyone taken to reading blogs?

Seattle Babble-on: what will happen at KVI, and when will it happen?

Wp_commentators_s_3

Marketers made the above ad hoping you'll believe The Commentators (KVI 9-12p) are a couple of bad asses.

We ain't buying it even though Ken Schram looks like he just bit off your ear, and John Carlson's lip-curl is like someone just farted in the elevator.

We got one of the 'Tators-as-Blues Brothers ads in our e-mail this morning and at noon, the mailman delivered another to our door in an envelope full of coupons for pizzas, laser hair removal, and carpet cleanings.
