Truth

Yes let's simply pre-qualify all politicians as liars, criminals and unethical degenerates before they accept elected office.

This is for sure a winning formula for getting ourselves out of this huge mess.

Truth

I never realized that normal human sexuality equates to photographing your crotch and mailing it to women 30 years younger ?

Andrew

The way things are going, if we demand that our politician not be an unsavory people in their personal life, we won't have any politicians who are actually competent in their professional capacity as a law maker.

I just ask one thing: if you're a male Republican conservative who votes against equal rights and protections for gays, don't suck guy's cocks. Simple.

Andrew

I never realized that normal human sexuality equates to photographing your crotch and mailing it to women 30 years younger ?

Having abnormal sexual proclivities is itself normal. Studies have shown that there is little uniformity in sexual proclivities across populations.

And who's 30 years younger? Are you just adding years to make things sound worse than they really are? He's 46, that would make said female 16 years old.

ProgBlogJunky

This is so true. Thinking back when i was a Progressive and voted for Obama i couldnt have cared less when he had his cock sucked by that guy in his limo while snorting cocaine. It just didnt matter. It was history in the making and i wanted to be so much part of it. Was i wrong.

Men have been photographing young women and selling it on the news stand for years, KS. And if you think it’s not traversing the e-mail autobahn;obviously you have not subscribed to the proper right wing e-mail list.

Andrew

What proof do you have that Obama did what these proud conservatives are known to have done?

The Anti-Dori

Everything I read here is true. Still, this is not France. Our electorate is neither as sophisticated nor intelligent as Europeans. Unfortunately, O'Donnell's plea will go unheard. And it is a plea as well as a statement of logic.

That's my prediction anyway.

Chucks

I don't believe any man in a position of power or trust should engage in any activity that might be used against him in the future.
Is the guy putting himself in a place where blackmail is a distinct possibility.
I am certain that I would enjoy some 20 something giving me head or screwing my eyes out as much as the next man. It is good that I am not in a position of power. (Nor can I imagine the willing 20 something)
This guy needs to go. Yes, he is good at stealing from the top 40% of income earners and giving it to the bottom 60% like any other rat bastard commie-democrat and is thus valuable to your cause. But there are other risks to be considered.

Pete

Anti-Dori is right; and you can be sure that NY tabloids will keep the story alive until Weiner's career is buried.

I really don't care about Weiner's sex habits, or anyone else's. I do care about his lying (the cover-up is always worse...), or in Republicans' case, the hypocrisy. And Weiner showed spectacularly bad judgment, given that a) he had no way of knowing that the women he was sexting were of age; b) nothing on the Internets should ever be considered private, and c) he just saw another member of the NY delegation (Christopher Lee, R-Craigslist) have his career destroyed around Internet sex hijinx.

Rep. Weiner was thinking with his (and like a) dick, which is neither illegal nor has any relationship to his ability to make laws. But the lying and the reckless judgment - those are problems, that generally aren't just confined to hiding things from the wife. There are plenty of bright people who can make laws without that kind of baggage.

School

by Mark Joyella | 4:00 pm, Tuesday
There are no pithy words that could possibly inflate the humor value of this, so we’ll just spit it out: Gennette Cordova, the 21-year-old college student who was the first woman connected via lewd photo to Rep. Anthony Weiner (you remember, way back last week when it was a story of “hacking” and “certitude” and all that?) was voted “most likely to be involved in a tabloid scandal” by classmates at Shorecrest High School back in 2007.

Just swiped this off of Mediaite.
I'm watching Leno, Maher and Red Eye tonite. This is going to be hilarious.

Darksecretplace

O'Donnell (and by extenson Hood) clumsily evades the right and wrong of this. Will the oh-so-tolerant voters of NY re-elect him? That's their bidness. Of COURSE they'll re-elect him! Is he a perverted betrayer?....Yyyyyyyes. But more importantly, even Weiner doesn't agree with O'Donnell (and by extension Hood) because he could've said "yeah, it's me," and it would've been over last week. But he LIED, so he must think it IS a big deal to his constituents Lawrence! (and by extension Michael). Republicans are brought down by sex, Democrats by tax-evasion. We know they all do it. What about the lying Michael (and by extension Lawrence).
The other sex act exposed by Weinergate is the now Pro Forma fealty to a lefty media favorite. At least Weiner literally hangs to the left.

Coiler

Eric Cantor Calls on Weiner to Resign, But gave Sanford and Ensign a pass.

Darksecretplace

Oh yeah, Anti-Dori....
So you admire a country if it's politicians' occasional maid-rapes are snickered at? How sophisticated. Tray sheek!

Coiler

IOKIYAR

The Anti-Dori

I think your blog name describes you well. No where have I said I tolerate maid rape but, then, I refrain from talking in generalities or painting with broad brushes. You might try it. Unless, of course, you have evidence that maid-rapes are snickered at? Please, let us see it.

Darksecretplace

I dunno .."Our electorate is neither as sophisticated nor intelligent as Europeans." What am I missing?
That "sophistication" is why Strauss-Kahn wasn't exposed for 30 years. Drunk driving used to be funny as well. Maybe you should tell Lawrence (and by extension Michael) to refrain from the broad brush as well. But then again, sometimes stereotypes reinforce themselves. (i.e. Weiner's glee about Jewish women and oral sex)

Darksecretplace

Oh yeah, I don't have a "blog name." I sign in with a Twitter account. The Dark Secret Place can be heard every Sunday on KFI AM 640. Or you can grab it on iTunes. Maybe I should go back to Scrilla?

Radio Queen

The spin starts here...and appears to be alive and well thanks to Hood, O'Donnell, etc.

A creep is a creep--regardless of political affiliation. Pete's right: the real issue here is Weiner's denial, outright lying, and cover-up attempt. We don't need someone with such a lack of character, common sense and judgment in a position of national leadership. Weiner's gone from political champion for the dems to serious political liability in less than a week.

Pete

Strauss-Kahn wasn't "exposed" before because he had never previously been charged with a crime. Duh.

Some people are "sophisticated and intelligent" enough to tell the difference between having an affair - which is obnoxious but really concerns nobody outside the immediate families involved; lying to constituents, which is also legal (and common among politicians) but ought to be a firing offense; and felony sexual assault or rape.

Meantime, can we at least agree that thinking with one's dick is a bipartisan (albeit mostly male) malady? (Helen Chenoweth might be the exception that proved the rule.) I'm really getting tired of each side claiming the other does it more. For every Weiner there's a Lee; for every Craig there's a Barney Frank; for every Sanford or Ensign there's a Spitzer; for every Vitter there's...there's...

Um, never mind.

joanie

I had a better opinion of you, Scrilla. I wouldn't have expected such an emotional and tawdry response from you. So, should Vitter still be in Congress? I"m curious.

Spitzer resigned and for my money, he was the best of the bunch. He was going after the corruption on Wall Street. Now there was one sexual mistake I could have easily overlooked. Paying for prostitution. It's illegal. Even that is beyond my ken. Why not legalize it and tax it? No, sorry. It is because we are not that sophisticated or smart, as the Anti-D says.

Oh, the horrors and evils of Anthony Weiner. Well, you guys have got one more Dem to keep you rabid for . . . hmmm, we'll have to see, won't we?

Oh, I guess I have to be the one to say it: politicians lie about sex because Americans are so unsophisticated and ignorant. Simply put.

joanie

BTW, Queen, he's not a serious liability except in your dreams. He's one seat in Congress. People are far more interested in getting jobs, stopping foreclosures and wondering what it will take to survive for one more day than they are in Anthony Weiner. Get your head out of the tabloids.

Darksecretplace

....tawdry?......tawdry?

joanie

Yes, tawdry. Painting a nation as tolerating sexual deviancy for over thirty years is tawdry. I had some respect for your take on things whether I agreed with them or not. But your labeling all those people is a cheap smear.

Darksecretplace

Politicians don't lie about sex because WE are unsophisticated and ignorant. Many of them do it because they have been career sociopaths since Junior High. Others are simply asshats. There is nothing "sophisticated" about texting your wood (<----tawdry!) to a coed.
ME "labeling all those people?" What about you 20 minutes ago?

"Oh, I guess I have to be the one to say it: politicians lie about sex because Americans are so unsophisticated and ignorant. Simply put."
MY sophistication is debatable, but I am not ignorant. So, spare the lecture. Without broad brushes, there'd be no Blatherwatch.

joanie

I was waiting for that. The problem is, Americans are unsophisticated and ignorant. And yes, I agree, the act of texting body parts to strangers is tawdry. So is lying about government workers, editing tapes to show false information, and posing as pimps to get a story that isn't accurately reported.

Do you disagree?

Itchy

What's sad about this here Weiner episode is Weiner never even got nothin'!!!

I mean,Vitter and Spitzer had to pay, but they got some diddlin'.

Bill Clinton got his sausage smoked and puffed on a Corona after dippin' it in an intern's spooge-hole.

Even wide-stance Larry Craig probably woulda got hisself an airport-stall hummer if it hadn't been for that fuckin' cop.

But this dumbass Weiner got nothin' but trouble. No BJ, no spooge, no tang.

If you're going to get in trouble, at least get some action.

For that alone, the dumbass should be fired.

Coiler

Exactly, and Bush lied about WMD and no ethics investigation. IOKIYAR

KS

Anyone in the GOP who calls on Weiner to resign is stupid, IMO. It will just give the Dems more excrement to throw back at them when one of their own engages in unseemly behavior.

Let each party police their own. The Democratics do such a fantasic job of it. Let each party pay the price for their consequences.

Coiler

I have never heard of this "democratics"?

joanie

I think I agree with that. At least KS is finally admitting his side sucks as much as he thinks our side does.

joanie

Coiler, he gets it off a blog! More evidence the Democratics are driving us off a financial cliff....

This is NW Republican. It is another source for Republican talking points. Can anything be funnier?

Posted by: joanie | June 07, 2011 at 06:59 PM

the issue with Spitzer is that when he was attorney general his department prosecuted folks for the same crimes he committed.

joanie

Why should he be "one of the last...?" You use quotation marks and say you're "sourcing." And who are you to determine who has the best or worst grammar or spelling? You're a bean counter.

joanie

He prosecuted them because it was the law. That's not "trouble with Spitzer" whatever that means.

Bessie Smith

This blog is like a poetry slam! Everybody's slammin' everybody else! So far the left is slammin' best!

Posted by: joanie | June 07, 2011 at 07:58 PM

joanie, you are riding off the rails. if you are going to quote me, be accurate. i wrote:

"the issue with Spitzer is that when he was attorney general his department prosecuted folks for the same crimes he committed."

as the AG he can determine the level of the charges and general approach to crime of his department such as prostitution. that he was putting people away for the same crimes he was committing takes it to a even higher level of hypocrisy. it's similar to the all to common situation of a closeted gay who in public is a politician that rails against/promotes laws that prosecute gays or lesbians.

if you can't grasp that, well that's your shortcoming.

joanie

I did see that. Reportedly, wikipedia is having a heck of a time keeping up with the revisionists! They ought to move to Texas where they make up new history daily.

If that isn't ignorance in a nutshell, I don't know what is. I'm laughing really hard. It's unbelievable.

Puget Sound Blathers

joanie
i use quotation marks to denote that i am quoting someone else.
that you can't figure that out tells us a lot about you.

joanie

So what, Sound-bite? Where did I say that he didn't prosecute or shouldn't prosecute the law?

No, closeted gays are not closeted because they are criminals. Don't you get that?

And where did I say he should not be prosecuted?

Ye gods, go back and read it again. Then come back and debate the law or don't come back at all.

Puget Sound Blathers

joanie
the scary part is that you are actually a school teacher in the public school system.

Coiler

"a public school system".... any vet from WW2 and on would say you're not loyal.

Puget Sound Blathers

I'm a vet and I say that Joanie has substandard reading comprehension skills.

joanie

You reread the post, huh? And now you have nothing to say. Point for me.

Coiler

The "Public School System" is another talking point. Is TVA, Corps of Engineers on the table too?

joanie

Merriam Webster:

Definition of QUOTATION MARK...used chiefly to indicate the beginning and the end of a quotation in which the exact phraseology of another or of a text is directly cited"

sourcedsourc·ing
Definition of SOURCE
transitive verb

: to specify the source of (as quoted material)

This should put an end to your ridiculous campaign to misuse and confuse "sourcing" and "quotation marks." If you can comprehend Merriam Webster online. That is a big if.

You do not source. Argue until the cows come home. You do not source. You do take other people's words, put quotation marks around them, and then fail to give them credit. And we all know that is because you get your "quotations" off crazy right-wing blogs. Whooppee!

And, of course, he's not going to divulge from which blog he got that talking point because he doesn't source.
