Chief Wetblanket

Dori still looks like a guppy. What a pair of hot tickets!

Upton

Ross presents himself as a liberal. Sure doesn't sound like a liberal to me. He kowtows to his conservative guests regularly..what a wimp.

Not getting KIRO FM at my house has been a blessing in disguise. For I figure if I have to stream a morning radio program, I might as well go with a REAL liberal...Thom Hartmann.

Duffman

Dave gives me the impression of someone who has been on the job too long and really retired a couple of years ago, but has failed to let his employer or his public know.
He is still a great talent and the perception of a big head may just be him letting it all hang out (so to speak). He has nothing to gain or lose by being a 'persona' any more, so I think he may be just displaying his pragmatic side in wanting to make logic out of hype.
No question that he maintains a top-notch 'radio voice' and could probably be on a national level in some capacity. Bottom-line is that Dave appears to be the 'captain-of-his-ship' and he seems to really enjoy life having had a terrific career with his work and has apparently been a devoted husband and father to a beautiful family.
We should all be so Blessed.

Rich

I think Duffman hit it on the head.Dave is a true pro. He can do what ever he wants. For listing to him for years, seem like he is completely satisfied with his life.

Rich

How about Wilber and Ross doing a taters thing?

joanie

Dave is still the radio guy I make it a point to listen. He harkens back to days when radit tended toward even-handed talk. A good combination of local and national. He sure gets some good guests including conservatives. And Libby complements him well.

I'll miss him when he retires.

chuck says joanie is a liar. (because she lies)

On my way to Olympia to enjoy TEA, I listened to Dave Ross on my radio. First time I had heard him for several years.
No need to hear that shit again. He is just another flaming lib that is just full of himself.

Mike

Ross is a true voice of the northwest and a relic of a more civil time. He will be missed. But not for some time hopefully.

Joe

I wonder what his ratings have been like lately? I bet they aren't great.

I used to listen to him regularly. I even participated in his Ross-pac program, back in the old days, just for grins. But in recent years he has gotten leftier and leftier to the point that I don't listen anymore. I wonder if other moderates have tuned him out, too?

David Tatelman

He hasn't gotten leftier at all. He presents a much more balanced show than Dori for example. If anything Dave Ross sometimes annoys liberals for not being stronger in his statements. Still, nobody can skewer the conservatives quite like he can when he presents the truth to counter their craziness.

Medved

Dave's enlarged head is simply an optical illusion. It has to do with his standing so close to the microcephalic leprechaun troll to his left.

Oh, by the way, Chuck, you are being used like a tool.

Thanks for the admission. Now we don't have to pay any more attention to you. You're just too stupid.

Andrew

Dave's head looks fine. His ears though... he should donate some of that.

Chief Wetblanket

Dave's arms are tiny too, like a gecko. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE PEOPLE???!

mark

"On my way to Olympia to enjoy TEA..."

Is yelling at clouds next?

chuck says joanie is a liar. (because she lies)

Are not all of us yelling at the clouds here by Feb or March? Come on Mark, even to us natives, the clouds get old after a while.
Oh my gawd Medved!!! Who could possibly be using me as a tool? I don't believe you. You're just making that shit up.

How convenient - GE also owns NBC and MSNBC aka MSLSD... Something's fishy - seems like an audit is in order - at least...

G.E: 7,000 tax returns, $0 U.S. tax bill

By Annalyn Censky, staff reporter
April 16, 2010: 11:52 AM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Electric filed more than 7,000 income tax returns in hundreds of global jurisdictions last year, but when push came to shove, the company owed the U.S. government a whopping bill of $0.

How'd it pull off that trick? By losing lots of money.

Tax bills for 5 corporate giants

The 2009 income tax bills for America's biggest companies ranged from $0 to $15 billion. Here's why.
GE had plenty of earnings last year -- just not in the United States. For tax purposes, the company's U.S. operations lost $408 million, while its international businesses netted a $10.8 billion profit.

That left GE (GE, Fortune 500) with no U.S. profit left for Uncle Sam to tax. Corporations typically face a 35% federal income tax on their earnings. Thanks to its deductions and adjustments, GE reported an actual U.S. federal income tax rate of negative 10.5%. It got to add a "tax benefit" of $1.1 billion back into its reported earnings.

"This is the first time in at least decades that GE has reported negative U.S. pretax income and it reflects the worst economy since the Great Depression," Anne Eisele, GE's director of financial communications, said via e-mail.

But what about the $10.8 billion profit overseas? GE is "indefinitely" deferring income tax payments on those profits, Eisele said.

It may seem like accounting magic, but it's completely legit.

GE isn't the only "Top 5" company on this year's Fortune 500 list that owed no income taxes. Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500), which suffered major losses in 2009, included a tax benefit of $1.9 billion in its annual profit.

"That's one way of escaping taxes," said Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation. "Companies get to deduct their losses, so if there's no earnings, then they pay no income tax."

But GE isn't exactly escaping all tax-related pain: The company paid almost $23 billion in taxes to governments around the world from 2000 to 2009, Eisele said.

Plus, paying the accountants to crank out 7,000 tax returns can't be cheap.

And then there's all the lawyers needed to defend those returns. GE filed tax paperwork in more than 250 jurisdictions around the world last year. "We are under examination or engaged in tax litigation in many of these jurisdictions," the company dryly notes in its annual report.

GE may not owe the IRS, but it still has to file -- and its filings are epic.
In 2006, as the IRS ramped up its corporate e-filing program, the tax agency actually issued a celebratory press release when it processed GE's tax return. On paper, the return -- the nation's largest -- would have totaled a massive 24,000 pages. But instead, the IRS was able to upload the 237 MB document in under an hour.

Reading it, though, is apparently taking a bit longer. The IRS is currently auditing GE's tax returns for 2003-2007.

Puget Sound "msnbc gets caught being a ph(J)oanie"

hey KS
no doubt we'll hear some outrage spewing from Rachel Maddow on this or better yet, maybe an Olbie 'Special Comment.'

or maybe they'll just be ph(J)oanies on the issue.

KS

Yeah, Puts - some of the Obamunists on MSLSD will bring on how to blame the Tea Party Movement or the GOP, because they are simply getting in the way of transformational change (truth be known) to f**k up this country beyond repair.

They are just self-centered Ph(J)oanies and don't even realize they are being played like the useful idiots they are - no one can do that better.

joanie

I wasn't a fan of Bill Clinton's policies but he's sure got some wisdom to spare. Too bad the rightwingers on this blog can't pick a little bit of it up.

Highlights of the speech: Clinton: Media, Politicians Shouldn’t Fuel ‘Hatriot’ Groups With Anti-Government Rhetoric That Inspired McVeigh(scroll down)

If we have another Oklahoma City disaster, who you all gonna blame? Just heard that Hitler's birthday is Monday. Can't confirm that. Don't want to.

Puget Sound "msnbc gets caught being a ph(J)oanie"

still think it is damn funny that it was a teacher from sparkles area that was doing the dirty tricks.

f'n losers. pretty much explains the racist catcalls at the events. just a set up.

joanie

Good lord, KS.

But GE isn't exactly escaping all tax-related pain: The company paid almost $23 billion in taxes to governments around the world from 2000 to 2009, Eisele said.

Considering my income and tax forms, my accountant is pretty expensive. Do you think that's a reason I should be excused from paying taxes?

And paying taxes around the world isn't doing much for our economy, now is it?

And they're still making amazing profits! (After paying all those lawyers)

Oh, dear. Poor GE. I appreciate that you check sources (even if they are propagandistic) but you really ought to learn to put those facts in context. You live in America, dear. Not the rest of the world. Would you like America to have good schools, healthcare, and a high standard of living again. Or not.

You will only have a job with the gumment as long as the gumment can collect enough taxes to pay you.

joanie

Hmm, just occurred to me that all GE has to do is submit returns without all loopholes and tax breaks and they wouldn't have to pay all those lawyers to defend them . . . now that's a novel idea!

sparky

Putz..your comment about it being a set up is as accurate as saying Beaverton is my "area."

Unless you meant "Pacific Northwest."

KS

"Would you like America to have good schools, healthcare, and a high standard of living again. Or not."

Are these rhetorical questions ? because they are no-brainers. If you are teacher, you work for the guvmint as well. Your president is not understanding how to accomplish these - he is using lessons from the Soviet Union to do this - and as a result, we are heading that direction, without a superpower like the US to provoke them to spend themselves into oblivion - Obamanation and congress are doing this all by themselves. It almost seems deliberate. Sure we'll see a minor uptick in the recovery this year - even though jobs increase is meager so far, but when the higher/new taxes kick in next year, that will stymie the recovery as higher taxes and another entitlement program typically do.

One can work for the Guvmint and still be a fiscal conservative.

Coiler

Like Duke Cunningham?

KS

Too bad the current POTUS doesn't use some of Bill Clinton's wisdom instead of incessantly flapping his gums to hear himself talk; =blah, blah, blah. Clinton gave a fairly good speech about the ramped up rhetoric from all sides with a Democratic party spin.

The Dims are the ones who need to pay attention and cool it with the infiltration of Tea Parties - they have been labeled as ph(j)oanies and are showing their underlying racism.

Virtually all of BO's statements have an expiration date that he knows and its up to us to find out. Loathsome behavior even for a politician.

Posted by: Coiler | April 16, 2010 at 09:21 PM

No bribes like Cunningham who was a scumbag - are you jealous and do you aspire to be like Barney Frank ?

joanie

The reason your posts rarely make sense is that you get confused. I don't understand your point in the post that responded to mine.

Of course, I work for the government. I am very vulnerable. That's exactly why I want everybody (corporations included) to pay taxes. That's how I get paid.

What don't you understand about that?

Also, I don't think it was just the Soviet Union that charged GE taxes on their profits. Maybe they didn't. Do you know. What has the Soviet Union got to do with GE paying taxes to keep the economy of America afloat and a high standard of living?

And what has any of this to do with socialism?

joanie

Oh, one more thing: somebody wrote about me and Rachel Maddow in the same post. Sort of compared us.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO - you are confused. Are you being funny or are you really serious with your question ? Nice try at obfuscation but maybe you really aren't in a coherent state. Go back and reread. I mentioned nothing in that post about GE.

Of course, you are the queen of denial and wouldn't admit the Dems are killing us if your life depended on it. We are headed in the same direction as the old Soviet Union was in the late 80's before they hit the skids as the Obamanation is spending us into oblivion and now trying to take over the financial sector with their corrupt statist agenda.

GE, Maddow and the White House are all in bed together - corrupt and sordid at the same time.

joanie

Why do you repost everything? I know what I said. Is your memory failing?

I asked you questions. Are you able to answer any of them? Even one?

joanie

joanie

But it's the tax benefit of overseas operations that is the biggest reason why multinationals end up with lower tax rates than the rest of us. It only makes sense that multinationals "put costs in high-tax countries and profits in low-tax countries," says Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation.

Why do you guess so much? You "believe" . . .you "guess" . . . why don't you ever know? Read the story and get the facts. You might learn something. But, then, perhaps you do have to be an "Einstein" like me to get it. In that case, I understand.

sparky

hah!

amazing

KS claims Coiler is a closet teabagger

blah, blah, blah.. With due respect, you are full of crap. Once again, WTF are you talking about ? Your comments were redundant - no need to respond. You don't have a rebuttal to my subsequent comments because it was an inconvenient truth.

Having an honest debate with you is not possible.
I was being facetious when I called you Einstein - au contrere - you are obtuse, particularly when you want to be.

joanie

hahahaha! Good ones, Sparky.

Stewart (woman) and Madoff (Jew) are in jail while Paulson got rich. He's special.

As for 1 man + 1 woman In Larry King's case, seems to be 1 man + 8 women or is it 9? Serial marriage! I loved that!

These are your people, KS. Get used to it. Oh, and if you're gonna post a bunch of facts, defend them or look stupid. It's your choice.

KS claims Coiler is a closet teabagger

Yeah, Sparkles those were amazing - most likely done by leftwingnut infiltrators to the Tea Parties. I guess you don't have any way to demonstrate the political persuasion of those who had the posters, just you typical ridicule without looking at yourself in the mirror.

Only thing that is amazing is the stupidity of the left.
Yawn.

joanie

Let me amend that:

If you're gonna post a bunch of hogwash, defend it or look stupider.

KS claims Coiler is a closet teabagger

Not my people - No, those are your Ph(J)oanie tea partiers who are used communist (Alinsky) tactics to infiltrate the demonstrations that go against their statist-leftwingnut propaganda - trying to make the other side look stupid.

Paulsen is a f'ing crook and should be behind bars. You suggest that Madoff shouldn't be serving time ? Confirmation that your ethics are in the shitter - oy vay !

sparky

Yes, this week's Republican talking point--try and make everyone believe these people are secret liberals trying to make the tea baggers look bad.

They do a fine job of it themselves.

But, you and Puts can continue to push that meme if you must. It's ok. I would be embarrassed too!

KS claims Coiler is a closet teabagger

Nice try pinko Joanie, but it doesn't fly. First you or Sparkles need to tell who they are-their political ideology and what tea party they were at - otherwise they are anonymous and mean nothing. The burden of proof is on Sparkles, since she posted it.

If you don't like it, go crawl back under your rock.

KS claims Coiler is a closet teabagger

You should be embarrassed, Sparkles for being a useful idiot and not caring enough to do research before you post pics that were likely done by your political comrades in arms. I stand by that until proven otherwise.

sparky

uh huh. Keep pushing that thought.

Meanwhile....

Another good one

sparky

..but mostly work on writing.

joanie

And with that right-wing meme of name-calling sans informed discourse, KS brings closure to our discussion.

Posted by: Puget Sound "Teacher gets caught being a ph(J)oanie"

And how does the left on this blog know when we've won? When the name calling on the right gets desperate.

I'm loving it. Just like in the images posted by sparky: stupidity abounds.

sparky

This is my fave.

You and Putz are the ones who think these Einsteins are secret liberals. I would say it's up to you to prove that.

The teacher in Oregon did not make misspelled signs...he is in trouble for using district equipment to plan his counter protest.
