Governor-by-Half Sarah Palin responded Thursday to Rush Limbaugh's passionate defense of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s use of the word, “retard.”
Sorta...
But Emanuel’s use of the slur gave Rush an excuse to use the word “retard” over 40 times on his show Wednesday.
Palin spokie Meghan Stapleton responded to a query by WaPo blog, The Plum Line’s Greg Sargent
“Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.”
(This tepid rebukitude may be total hokitude- erstwhile shag-in-law Levi Johnston says Sarah uses the ’tard word around the house her own self).
“Our political correct society," Rush said, "is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards,.” He added that Rahm’s meeting yesterday with advocates for the mentally handicapped was a “retard summit at the White House.”
Palin has a Down's Syndrome child, which may have given her a real-life understanding of the cruelty of such politically incorrect terms. Or she maybe it's just an above-reproach moral high ground on which she can stand to flog opponents over the head for headlines and self-promotion… wouldn’t be the first time.
Rich and middle class white men of a certain age (like Rush) rave against political correctness because they're so far removed from the racial minorities, economic groups, or religions suffering such degrading insults. They defend with abandon their blessed First Amendment right to use terms like wet-back, retard, fag, bum, Negro, towel-head, trailer trash, bitches, etc.Maybe it’s for lack of the personal experience with these groups that they fail to feel empathy for groups of people publicly demeaned, devalued and dismissed by such terms.
Or maybe they’re just assholes.

Obviously it's not the term itself that's offensive, it's the pejorative way in which it is used. The term 'saint' (for instance) if applied in a negative and belittling way would be just as bad. Rush, if implying this - might be correct, but any time a term is used as a 'label' in (like I say) a pejorative way, it is demeaning and unfair. Your last sentence might be a clear example of this. We are all aware of the 'taint' that our society puts on certain words and we should all be sensitive to that, in both speech and writing.

Good point h2o, bottom-line, tho is that if a term is degrading to a human being it shouldn't be used, PERIOD!
Posted by: Duffman | February 05, 2010 at 05:28 AM
Coming to Sarah's defense - Pigs may be flying soon - lol...would the resident lib progs call this retarded or not ?
Posted by: KS | February 05, 2010 at 12:09 PM
Sarah the slut and Rush the Windbag are far more retarded than her child could ever be!!
Posted by: saintrudy | February 05, 2010 at 01:47 PM
Rush may be a wind bag, but Sarah is a far cry from the definition or connotation of a slut.
Posted by: TommyOate | February 05, 2010 at 01:58 PM
Can't we all just get along.
Posted by: Rodney | February 05, 2010 at 02:04 PM
if it talks like, walks like and looks like , then I guess you know the rest.
Posted by: saintrudy | February 05, 2010 at 02:45 PM
talks like: that's why they pay her $50K for a speech
walks like: a lady with strong conviction
looks like: hard to find a bad pic of her (can you say the same)
So, you're wrong on all counts. Sarah is a strong woman and the emphasis is on the term 'strong'; that's what puts the fear in many.
Posted by: TommyOate | February 05, 2010 at 02:52 PM
Fear the 2 year governor...
Posted by: Coiler | February 05, 2010 at 03:00 PM
Yep, She's the big decoy for the progressive/regressives.
Posted by: KS | February 05, 2010 at 05:03 PM
She's the big, beat off material for the loser tea baggers. They need to get a job and go back to their wives. okay?
Posted by: Coiler | February 05, 2010 at 05:55 PM
I wonder if Sarah has learned to read a newspaper yet or has figured out if the State of Africa is in Europe or Asia.
Posted by: saintrudy | February 05, 2010 at 06:04 PM
What makes you any different from a loser teabagger other than your political persuasion ?
Posted by: KS | February 05, 2010 at 06:45 PM
lots, I don't hate black folk. Please get over 1965, ya know?
Posted by: Coiler | February 05, 2010 at 06:51 PM
This is small potatoes.. I am more interested in the emails that surfaced today that show her explaining to workers how they could hide the power load to her house so she could set up a tanning bed. Also, the emails that showed the Todd was involved in policy making. I'm sure our con friends here are perfectly ok with that, just as they would if it turned out that Mr. Gregoire was making decisions that affected our state.
Posted by: sparky | February 05, 2010 at 07:06 PM
you believe that garbage about Tea Parties not having any black people ? Are you that gullible ?
That is MSLSD and Media Matters bullshit propaganda because that's the only way they can smear them. They can't HANDLE THE TRUTH - about the upcoming elections in November. Ever heard of Wayne Perryman, a local black leader has been active in local tea parties ? Doubt if you had heard of him and if you disparage him as an Uncle Tom or an Oreo, that would make you a bigot/racist..
Posted by: KS | February 05, 2010 at 07:13 PM
no, never heard of him, was he active before teabagging?. Does he denounce the 'halfrican" posters or the Hitler mustaches? well?
Posted by: Coiler | February 05, 2010 at 07:19 PM
Google it yourself. This is not the nanny state you want to live in.
Posted by: KS | February 05, 2010 at 08:10 PM
Just what is the "nanny" state? You sound like a walking talking point. Half the time, you don't even know what you're talking about.
I'd love to know what you do for a living. You're probably on disability.
Posted by: joanie | February 05, 2010 at 09:33 PM
my vague dislike for Allen Hunt has rapidly turned into unbridled disdain . We're talking Laura Schlesinger repulsion levels here. I run ACROSS THE ROOM to turn off the stone age radio SIGNAL and tune in internet radio FREEDOM970 (Phil Hendrie) when he comes on now. What a full-of-himself pompous ass!
Posted by: Tommy008 | February 05, 2010 at 11:11 PM
Tonight Phil has on "Bob Green", owner of "Fraser Foods", who has banned white people from buying chicken fryers, collard greens, watermelons, during Black History Month because he believes the whites are mocking black people......

When does the BW-lib-club boycott of NBC start?
Or do we only boycot conservatives caught in such foot-in-mouthisms?
Thought so.

stop your whining, sparkles. how pathetic that you have to deep dive into this speculation on the palins. don't you get tired of delving into that pit? sheesh, you are probably still ticked that Twig wasn't Bristol's child?
and yes, i would expect that gov gregoire would be taking advice from people that she respects. so i would not be angry/upset if that included the first man of washington state.
stay classy sparkles, you do not disappoint. the only question is who will suddenly online to post...why don't you bring fremont out of retirement? LMAO

Hey Fremont!..Putz thinks you and I are the same person. (Actually, I am honored.) Awhile back he "knew" that Coiler and I are the same person. He had "proof." Hah! Jesus..who trusts their beans to him to count?
And Putz..it's not speculation on my part. It was in the news. There are real emails. If you weren't so lazy, you could go check the Washington Post, for one. Not that this would be considered proof by you, but some of the lurkers might be interested in looking into it further.
Posted by: sparky | February 06, 2010 at 02:41 PM
No Duff, I have not been out working in my garden. Too early for that. I got a new camera this morning at Costco and I have been out taking pictures. Now I think I will go make some soup. Now, you go play nice in the sandbox.

"INTERNET DRIVER's LICENSE?"
Microsoft's Mundie wants it
A type of "driver's license" for the Internet. Yeah. That's what Craig Mundie, Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, proposed this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland."
Bad news for Joanie. Maybe Sparkles will post for you...

Joanie sure has fun putting down people who lose their job or work in occupations she considers beneath her such as 'sales.' I still recall her comments about the time a 'janitor' got tired of her crap. And made it stick. LMAO. The whine in her comment about 'A Janitor' doing this was a classic.
As someone while in school actually worked in jobs dealing with the general public you can bet that Joanie is the type that enjoys tormenting 'the help.' The type that goes in to the restaurant and makes life hell for the waiter.
If you ever worked with the public, you know this type. They paid their $6.75 for the Grand Slam (for one, of course) and let not that waitress be slow to bring that third coffee refill or it's going to be hell to pay with sarcasm and threats to talk to the manager.
One wonders the source of this mean spirited attitude. My guess its what we waiters use to call an 'ACL.' No, not what athletes tear rather it's something deep in the psyche, ACL as in 'A Crappy Life.'
What is most funny are these repeated comments about how she is such a good liberal and espousing all these wonderful values that only a liberal such as she could possess.
Reminds one of the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote,'the louder he talked of his honor the faster we counted our silverware.'

from the WA Post, you'll recognize some of the usual suspects self aggrandizing commentary...(we'll see if the pots recognize the kettle)
Why are liberals so condescending?
By Gerard Alexander
Sunday, February 7, 2010
Every political community includes some members who insist that their side has all the answers and that their adversaries are idiots. But American liberals, to a degree far surpassing conservatives, appear committed to the proposition that their views are correct, self-evident, and based on fact and reason, while conservative positions are not just wrong but illegitimate, ideological and unworthy of serious consideration. Indeed, all the appeals to bipartisanship notwithstanding,
Posted by: Puget Sound | February 06, 2010 at 08:55 PM
Very interesting article, PutS. I wonder if the usual suspects will take the time to read it carefully - I'd recommend that everyone did. Then I wonder, if they believe it was biased or objective.
The author briefly disparages Glenn Beck, so they would have to at least agree with that part.. Lots of opportunities for the pots to recognize the kettle lol.

As for put downs? Tell your foolish friend, sputs, to read his last ten posts.

it's clear that she didn't read the article carefully. She would have learned something and realized her ilk to be the eltiist fools if she had and consider changing their approach. Keep being obtuse and out of touch and the chickens will be coming home to roost. Yes our country has too many fools like you, Joanie - who are basically insane.

From the too funny files. Looks like before we had the Alaskan Palm Pilot we had a California Palm Pilot. From the Huffington Post:
"When Sarah Palin wrote a cheat sheet for an interview on her hand, liberal pundits gleefully bashed her. But only Calbuzz will tell you that the ex-Republican veep candidate in doing so was simply following in the, uh, footsteps of California senior Senator Dianne Feinstein.
From Arianna Huffington to Andrea Mitchell, lefty pundits pounced on Palin, after photos showed that she'd scribbled brief talking points on her palm - "energy, budget tax cuts, lift American spirits" - before sitting for questions during last weekend's big Tea Party convention. It's notable, of course, that the words are among her most important, fundamental principles and so, presumably, might not need to be written on her palm. If she had fundamental principles.
But DiFi pulled exactly the same stunt two decades earlier, during a crucial debate when she unsuccessfully ran for governor against Pete Wilson in 1990. Your Calbuzzers, armed with Trash 80s and cell phones the size of sneakers, were on hand in Studio City to cover the big event, the rivals' one-and-only face-to-face meeting of the campaign."
