Duffman

I agree on this Bla'M. IMO he hit it out of the ballpark with this. Those who were so hard on our President and his dependency of tele-prompters can look at this interfacing and realize that this person can communicate big time.
I think he may in fact be at his best when he gets away from the beltway and the direct dictates of his staff.

sparky

This was so good, Fox news quit covering it before it was over.

TommyOate

For those not institutionalized (like me) and were unable to see it, check out this evening's coverage of Pres OBAMA speaking to a Republican gathering today. He did extremely well as you will see. Hope that helps him make progress.

Thank you, thank you ladies and gentlemen, I only pointed this out to you eons ago.

Reuben and the Jets

Events like these should have occured before now and hope they continue. It looked like a win-win and maybe one for the people. The talk is over and we'll all judge the real outcome by his/ their actions.

In addition to the exchange between the House GOP and the Prez, Frank Luntz had an interesting commentary about this on Cavuto on FOX re:Obama's communicating skills.

Watin' for Duffman

Was that after FOX shut down coverage of the Q&A 20 mins early?

if that is your take-away then you missed the whole point of what Pres Obama was trying to accomplish.

unless of course it was smoke and mirrors and not hope and change...

citizen mom

The Republicans had nearly 8 years to cut taxes, reform malpractice laws, address job loss to overseas, improve infrastructure, etc. - but they didn't. Instead they inspired fear of enemy that wasn't real and took away our civil liberties in the name of safety.

It is so much easier to do nothing, or next to nothing, wait for someone else to try and then pick it apart.

Ron

I admire Pres. Obama for his meeting directly, face to face with the not so loyal opposition, there in Baltimore. This focus shows the President's authentic intent to find some common meeting ground, which unfortunately is not likely. He was right on for addressing the questions while revealing their talking points and posturing for the camera and their constituencies.
The President extended a hand but the opposition is closed to any outreach.
Obama should now move on and not waste any more time on similar efforts.

KluelesS, chunks & PutzS = tres assholes

The Republicans had nearly 8 years to cut taxes ... and they didn't

let's not forget overturning roe v wade = outlawing abortion ... oh, that's right. abortion is their big money maker when it comes to donations, it will never be outlawed as the gNOpers will never cut off that cash cow!

oh look Ron is now joanie according to his avatar LOL!

do your little minds now get it?

rockett88

If Obama was in favor of motherhood and apple pie, the GOP would oppose it.

To the extent that there is a GOP "policy" agenda, it is "cut taxes and deregulate." It is the mantra they repeat when confronted with every problem from budget deficits to global warming to the designated hitter rule. Just once I would like to hear an actual Republican idea rather than a reflexive repetition of their useless dogma.

Coiler

Yes I saw the exchange with Marsha Blackburn. He threw it back in her hillbilly face saying you ain't done shit for 8 years of the very bills you accused me of not proposing. It was a shit sandwich for the GOP that it was televised.

lurker

What I find most amazing is how the Republicans reject ideas and proposals that they championed for decades. Not only is the health care bill modeled on Romney's, but it reflects GOP proposals dating to the 1950s. Cap-and-trade was an idea that came out of the first Bush administration and was touted as "market solutions to environmental problems." My entire life the GOP has talked about reigning in the costs of Medicare. Tax cuts on individuals, small businesses, and capital gains have all be hallmarks on the GOP platform. The Republicans now won't vote for a single one of these items because they have been embraced by Obama.

Rich

The President is wasting his breath, and he probably knows it. But at least he can say he tried. Being the "Party of No" has paid off big for the Republicans in Va, NJ and Mass., so don't expect them to stop. They only care about being reelected - not about the country.

chucks

It is Jug Ears Hussein again. He did have a nice little meeting with the Republicans this morning. They, of coarse were very kind and respectful in allowing him in the big peoples room. He did throw a few zingers, but the R's maintained decorum and let his crap slide.
His SOTU speech sucked. You can only blame Bush for so long. This economy is his now, he owns it. It has only gotten worse since his arrival. His stimulus didn't stimulate. His first year in office has been an epic failure. None of it by any substantial Republican vote. He is incompetent and naive, and it has all been laid out there for the world to see.
Even though he is clean, articulate and doesn't speak with a negro dialect, he has lost the independents. I am sure that is ok because he still has some of you holding on to that hopey-changey thing he promised during the campaign. He still has Chris Matthews, Randi Rhodes and Keith Olbermann to fawn all over him. Hell, Chris even forgot that he was black. Must be the tingle thing.
Anyway, the guy has only proven himself to be an empty suit. He lied to get the job and you people are still buying in to the bling.
Yes Michael, that is the guy you voted for. Probably the dumbest thing you've done in your life (not counting that thing in Jr High).
And Joanie is dealing (poorly) with a major identity crisis.

KS

Paul Ryan, (R) Rep. from Wisconsin threw it back at Obama and Barry did his tap dance routine about whether he would support a line item veto -never answered it. He also spelled out why the Stimulus was a big waste of taxpayer's money and someone else brought up the fact that Health Insurance Reform negotiations were not shown on CSPAN like he had promised at least 7 times in his campaign - that one caught him - he had to own up to it, but for no plausible reason (we know that he didn't want to see the ugly negotiations) and the crap sandwich that the bill turned out to be.

I found it amusing when Barry prefaced his remarks by saying that he is not an ideologue - don't think many Repubs. believed it from his actions and because he has been caught lieing way to much already. Another whopper was that he accused the GOP of trumpeting the Health Insurance Reform bill of being a "Bolshevik scheme" - no kidding, Sherlock that's what Government run health care is.

He does pay attention to what the opposition says, then blows it off and doesn't practice what he preaches about bi-partisan. He did say accuse them of boxing themselves in and not having much room for negotiation, but the fact is that it is difficult to negotiate with a left-wing ideologue.
His poll numbers would be a lot higher if he was more centrist, like Clinton, but he is too much of an ideologue to do that. He's not a socialist, but is a social democrat.

KluelesS, chunks & PutzS = tres assholes

His SOTU speech sucked. You can only blame Bush for so long.

yet you blamed clinton for 5, 6 years while shrub the incompetent royally screwed up this country. you, are a class A hypocrite by saying this.

This economy is his now, he owns it.

yes, but his policies didn't get going until the end of the 2nd quarter at best, a fact you gloss over as is your ilk's MO, and so you are still in a fantasy world on the economy and who is responsible for it.

the rest of your post just proves how out of touch you really are and doesn't even merit comment, except for your racist overtones.

Part of what say was true, like some of what they didn't do for 8 years. Democrats obstructed tort reform as they always have - their special interest- that is ridiculous. Both parties were involved in jobs going overseas. When a war on terrorism is fought, some civil rights disappear as they do in wars - no attacks since 9/11/01 - something Bush did correctly. The war in Iraq was not well advised. However, the Dems trying Islamofascists like KSM in civil courts is stupid and will only serve to escalate this war more.

The Democrats did a fine job at doing nothing between 2001-06 and picking everything apart when they were out of power. How does it feel now ? Neither is the right way to conduct business, but when both sides are so polarized, that is what you get - because neither side wants to compromise - that's what you are seeing now. That is why a balance of power is always better than one side being in control.

joanie

I guess we know who won that debate today. If Fixed News had stuck around until the end, I might have had to call them Fox News again.

joanie

Thank you Obama, for showing that the left can at least act like an adult. I might actually get to liking you again. We'll see.

Malloy was funny tonight. He mimicked an RV-sellin' Fixed News listener responding to the ending of coverage early: "more on the Republican response later." Malloy said the Republicans were responding - right there and right then. But then, in his best Joe six-pack drawl he said, "Oh yeah. We'll hear the Republican response later."

Of course, the Rethugs did respond later. Had to tie up some loose ends, I guess. It was a pathetic response. They, like our sputsie, seem to chase their tails as well.

KluelesS, chunks & PutzS = tres assholes

Democrats obstructed tort reform as they always have

and by tort reform you mean keeping wronged and injured citizens from suing your corporate facist masters?

no attacks since 9/11/01 - something Bush did correctly.

uh, maybe if shrub had been awake and actually read his daily reports and learned of imminent danger the attacks on 9/11 might not have happened or if the big DICK hadn't grounded the air force the towers could have been saved. I don't think your peanut brain should go there. really.

However, the Dems trying Islamofascists like KSM in civil courts is stupid and will only serve to escalate this war more.

really? how is that going to escalate the wars more? more than killing hundreds of thousand of innocent civilians in the middle east that had nothing to do with 9/11? gawd your stupidity shows more and more with every keystroke.

is all you know just fucking reichwing talking points? do you have an original thought?

The Democrats did a fine job at doing nothing between 2001-06 and picking everything apart when they were out of power

another masterpiece from the brain dead. dems couoldn't even get a conference room to discuss anything, moron, as the reichwingers didn't let them have any say in anything. they hardly slowed anything down or picked it apart, unlike the current gNOpers and their party first bullshit

that is what you get - because neither side wants to compromise

fuck me, you are in such a bizarro world! Our president has bent over backwards to include you motherfuckers and all he gets is NO NO NO, party above country ... well today's SLAP DOWN SPANK FEST may change all of this but I doubt it.

today he proved he is playing chess with 'tarded checkers players, has put them on notice for the whole world to see and I hope he flips them off and we can move on with fixing this country from all of the damage that has been done since the reichwing party of NO has gone off the deep end.

you should be scared that after today some on your side of the aisle will have the cajones to vote on what is correct and not the party first NO NO NO crap.

So Tad, while I don't think Pres Obama is a secret Terrorist, I don't care about his religion, and think the Birth Certificate stuff is a sidetrack and said so long ago.

this is one of my issues with Pres Obama, competency on the terror war.
from Dr. Charles Krauthammer:

"After 50 minutes of questioning him, the Obama administration chose, reflexively and mindlessly, to give the chatty terrorist the right to remain silent. Which he immediately did, undoubtedly denying us crucial information about al-Qaeda in Yemen, which had trained, armed and dispatched him.

We have since learned that the decision to Mirandize Abdulmutallab had been made without the knowledge of or consultation with (1) the secretary of defense, (2) the secretary of homeland security, (3) the director of the FBI, (4) the director of the National Counterterrorism Center or (5) the director of national intelligence (DNI).
The Justice Department acted not just unilaterally but unaccountably. Obama's own DNI said that Abdulmutallab should have been interrogated by the HIG, the administration's new High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group.

Perhaps you hadn't heard the term. Well, in the very first week of his presidency, Obama abolished by executive order the Bush-Cheney interrogation procedures and pledged to study a substitute mechanism. In August, the administration announced the establishment of the HIG, housed in the FBI but overseen by the National Security Council.

Where was it during the Abdulmutallab case? Not available, admitted National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair, because it had been conceived for use only abroad. Had not one person in this vast administration of highly nuanced sophisticates considered the possibility of a terror attack on American soil?

It gets worse. Blair later had to explain that the HIG was not deployed because it does not yet exist. After a year! I suppose this administration was so busy deploying scores of the country's best lawyerly minds on finding the most rapid way to release Gitmo miscreants that it could not be bothered to establish a single operational HIG team to interrogate at-large miscreants with actionable intelligence that might save American lives.

Travesties of this magnitude are not lost on the American people. One of the reasons Scott Brown won in Massachusetts was his focus on the Mirandizing of Abdulmutallab."

sparky

Puts, why dont you post what your own thought is, instead of pasting lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng articles written by someone else? Nobody wants to read something this long.

nice that you use a version of the royal 'we.' isn't that a little presumptious? are you like the webmaster here? has there been an election of sorts?
of course, considering the phony 'posters' on this blog you may have more insight into all their thoughts.
LMAO.
but if coiler, et al... can't be bothered then just skip over.

joanie

Thanks, Sparky. Always use the royal we (which includes me) when chastising the parroting of the above idiot poster. Summarizing and paraphrasing, synthesizing and evaluating are skills every lawyer needs. That's why he's just a bean counter.

And Krauthammer should be making sauerkraut for a living in my opinion. His arguments never hold up. Just another tool on the right.

AS for "competency" on a "Terror war?" The Chilcotte Commission in England is finally getting to the bottom of Bush's Poodle in that illegal war against a country that never intended to nor ever did harm us and in which tens if not hundreds of thousand of innocent human beings were killed and cities and villages left in ruins.

Only the smug, arrogant and ignorant among us buy Kruathammer's unproven and unsupported words.

Thankfully, Krauthammer is in a position to influence only the ignorant among us. The Rule of Law means nothing to the propagandist. But it means something to the rest of us who know that as the Rule of Law is applied to the weakest, most despised and the most vulnerable among us, it applies to us.

I believe that the Huff Post used shoddy and possibly yellow journalism when they misquoted Kiriakou as they have done before -they have a political ax to grind. What made him change his mind about waterboarding ? You have it backwards - the useful idjits on the left have had their common sense displaced by political will and fighting the evil conservatives. Meanwhile, the terrorists are laughing in their backyard while they plot future attacks like that of the panty bomber.

When it happens and it probably will, there will be plenty of finger pointing at the BO administration, because of their incredibly poor judgment to read terrorists their Miranda rights and give them civil trials. In the meantime, keep on the arrogant, self righteous track and never listen to different viewpoints. Then observe the opposition to your rants will grow, ass-backwards mole aka avatar and others that display a lack of civility.

At least the President met with the opposition and plans to do it again - maybe there will actually be some hint of compromise, probably after Pelosi is done as Speaker of the House and Reid is knocked out in November.
