Dori Monson (KIROFM m-f 12-3p) blames Mayor Greg Nickels and politically-correct Seattleites for the cold blooded, assassination-style Halloween murder of Seattle policeman, Timothy Brenton.
This is the kind of tone deaf opinionifying that's always defined this radio host, but he's dialed it up to 11 since KIRO's ratings went to hell last Spring.
The idea is bouncing around in Seattle’s little right-wing radio echo chamber. It's a familiar meat-wagon the dittohead dogs of Seattle talk radio eagerly set upon, providing them the opportunity to utter the words they’re trained to utter whenever the topics of “libruls” and “crime’ are brought up. (We believe “ACLU” was also mentioned).
Conservative talkers have long made anti-Seattle-ism part of the aural fabric. Few of them (including Dori) actually live in the city, and it's a plump target for the pea-shooters of the radio .
(Monson’s relationship with the City of Seattle is like BlatherWatch’s to him: he never lets an opportunity to shit on its hat).
Dori and some of his cranky listeneers claim that Seattle Police hands are tied under the “Seattle Nice Policy,” community policing, and “Gun-free Zones.” Mayors, starting with Norm Rice, they say, have been more interested in banning plastic grocery bags than keeping us safe. That prevents cops from defending themselves as they sit in their cars.
Dori pawned off the assumption that the murder was gang-related, (read Negro) which connected it with other high profile crimes, and of course, with affirmative action, and BBQ.
Actually, crime - rarely a major problem in Seattle’s history- has declined in recent years, but being outraged about criminals is an oral tradition on Seattle talk radio used for demagoguery against the “progressive liberals.”
(Dave Boze, Dori’s “colleague” on sister station KTTH, resisted the cheap shot and told a listener he couldn’t see a connection between the cop killing and Nickels’politics. The listener claimed the PC police permissiveness began during the infamous World Trade Organization’s demonstrations in 1999, and has been”out of control” ever since).
Dori had these charges up on his blog the day after the crime- with all his 'support the cops' posturing you'd he'd let them at least bury the guy before he starts trying to make ratings hay from this tragic death.

Wow. This would be a huge setback. Wonder how the base will take this...
"The Obama administration and House Democrats are making a last-ditch effort to find approximately 10 more Democrats willing to vote for healthcare reform legislation Saturday.
"Let me tell you how my day has gone," said Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa., acknowledging he is among those whom House leaders and the White House are leaning on most heavily.
Altmire said that by mid afternoon, he had spoken to President Obama, White House Chief of Staff Emanuel, House Speaker Pelosi, House Majority Leader Hoyer, Education Secretary Duncan and HHS Secretary Sebelius, all urging him to vote for passage and asking what they can do to secure his vote.
"My constituency just isn't there," he said on why he is undecided. But he added, "I don't want to kill it."
Asked what he would do if he is the deciding vote, he said, "I don't know."
Altmire is not the only one being hammered, although others are more tight-lipped about pressure they feel. In all, "in the vicinity" of 10 votes are needed to reach the 218-vote threshold for passage, a Democratic leadership aide said today"

Yes.
The far left should definitely 'punish' those Blue Dogs...go ahead and 'downsize' that Dem Party.
"A few days ago, the left-wing activist group MoveOn.org began sending out emails seeking contributions to fund primary challenges against any Democratic senator who does not fully support "health care reform with a public option." Now there's an update: MoveOn executive director Justin Ruben says the group has raised $3,578,117 for the project and is thinking of new ways to punish errant Democratic lawmakers."

Sparkles:
An old joke cited by Dr. Charles Krauthammer is appropriate:
Moscow, 1953. Stalin calls in Khrushchev.
"Niki, I'm dying. Don't have much to leave you. Just three envelopes. Open them, one at a time, when you get into big trouble."
A few years later, first crisis. Khrushchev opens envelope 1: "Blame everything on me. Uncle Joe."
A few years later, a really big crisis. Opens envelope 2: "Blame everything on me. Again. Good luck, Uncle Joe."
Third crisis. Opens envelope 3: "Prepare three envelopes."
In 2009 Pres Obama burned through the first envelope. We'll see how it looks in the 2010 midyear election.
AT SOME POINT he has to take responsibility for his policies. Is he going to blame Bush for his Healthcare 'public option' going down in flames?
AT SOME POINT. For example, his handpicked General is calling for 40 thousand more soldiers in support of what Pres Obama calls 'the good war.'
Iraq -bad war. Afghanistan -good war.
As Krauthammer points out,
"In each war, quick initial low-casualty campaigns toppled enemy governments. In the subsequent occupation stage, two policy choices presented themselves: the light or heavy "footprint."
In both Iraq and Afghanistan, we initially chose the light footprint. For obvious reasons: less risk and fewer losses for our troops, while reducing the intrusiveness of the occupation and thus the chances of creating an anti-foreigner backlash that would fan an insurgency.
This was the considered judgment of our commanders at the time, most especially Centcom commander (2003-2007) Gen. John Abizaid. And Abizaid was no stranger to the territory. He speaks Arabic and is a scholar of the region. The overriding idea was that the light footprint would minimize local opposition.
It was a perfectly reasonable assumption, but it proved wrong. The strategy failed. Not just because the enemy proved highly resilient but because the allegiance of the population turned out to hinge far less on resentment of foreign intrusiveness (in fact the locals came to hate the insurgents -- al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Taliban in Afghanistan -- far more than us) than on physical insecurity, which made them side with the insurgents out of sheer fear.
What they needed, argued Gen. David Petraeus against much Pentagon brass opposition, was population protection, i.e., a heavy footprint.
In Iraq, the heavy footprint -- also known as the surge -- dramatically reversed the fortunes of war. In Afghanistan, where it took longer for the Taliban to regroup, the failure of the light footprint did not become evident until more recently when an uneasy stalemate began to deteriorate into steady Taliban advances.
That's where we are now in Afghanistan. The logic of a true counterinsurgency strategy there is that whatever resentment a troop surge might occasion pales in comparison with the continued demoralization of any potential anti-Taliban elements unless they receive serious and immediate protection from U.S.-NATO forces.
In other words, Obama is facing the same decision on Afghanistan that Bush faced in late 2006 in deciding to surge in Iraq."
Sooooo, difficult choices ahead for Pres Obama.

This isn't going to fit Dori's fantasy:
The man Seattle detectives shot Friday afternoon outside a Tukwila apartment complex - who authorities say is a suspect in the Halloween night slaying of a Seattle police officer - is a 41-year-old man who studied law enforcement issues at the University of Washington, according to law enforcement sources.
Posted by: b dunk | November 06, 2009 at 07:51 PM
If this is the guy that executed the police officer, it would not be the first time some clown that wanted to be a cop, but could not qualify for one reason or another turned to the dark side.
If the guy went after his degree plus went to the Academy and washed out or even made to patrol only to not make it for one reason or another.
Many a man that could not cut it as a cop and it being a life long dream has used his education in criminology to become a criminal.
If this is the guy, I hope he recovers partially so that he can be convicted and have an extremely painful existence until execution day.

hey, as soon as they broadcast that they were looking for a Datsun B210 you knew it wouldn't take too long to find that car.
Posted by: Puget Sound | November 06, 2009 at 08:18 PM
PutS - It isn't over until that Health Insurance Reform Monster has a stake plunged into its heart. Pelosi, the biotch is riding the monster and I don't want to speculate except to say that the Blue Dog Dems can be heroes or goats in the eyes of most American people. I'd be in favor of a compromise bill, but not this draconian piece of legalese bullshit.
I heard the Brian Baird is leaning again toward voting against it. Adam Smith (who I voted for the last 3 times) is probably receiving many calls as well, but would expect him to tow the line and vote for it - to keep his committee chairmanship and also because he is not being seriously challenged. In his heart of hearts, I can't help but believe he knows that it is wrong - afraid that the toxic political culture of the other Washington corrupts the good ones too.
Posted by: KS | November 06, 2009 at 10:04 PM
Some neighbor claims she saw the car several days ago and thought it might be the car police were looking for but didn't call the police because she just wasn't sure enough. That's what happens when you never step out on a limb and take a chance.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | November 06, 2009 at 10:18 PM
Glad that they found the culprit and shot him, as he drew his weapon first. Most criminals are not sophisticated enough to hide their tracks (or the from their cars). Modern technology and DNA testing has made it tougher for the criminal vermin to keep from getting caught, except for the white collar criminal vermin like Madoff.
Posted by: KS | November 06, 2009 at 10:31 PM
if this guy was trying to show the cops who rejected him and laughed at him how smart he was- I say mission failure. Some caller to KIRO last night was going on about how this was some ultra- sophisticated, almost superhuman, robo-hitman from a drug cartel. Shows how offbase and wacked talkradio callers can be. Dude thought the was slick by backing away from the patrol car after the hit so he didnt get in the car's camera field. Problem was the squad car camera had already picked up his Datsun a half hour earlier prowling around Leschi or the CD. He left a witness alive to point to the car and say, "that's the car, there!" If both officers had died would we have solved the case by now? Probably not.

I also like and have voted for Adam Smith a number of times. A reasonable and moderate politician. But agree that this current Health Care bill is a monster and he might be rolled on this Health Care Vote given his desire to keep the chairmanship and that he is firmly ensconced. In our district, his worry should be not someone coming in on his left (a firebrand Liberal) but someone coming in slightly to the right with some decent backing from the Repub party (Jim Ferrell of Fed Way maybe?)
Posted by: Puget Sound | November 07, 2009 at 04:23 AM
wow. looks like more dems continue to abandon the SS Pelosi...from the USA Today:
"Some of the most vulnerable Democrats in the House are starting to flake off the health care bill.
There are a dozen first-term Democrats representing districts that Republican presidential nominee John McCain won last year. So far, six have announced that they will vote against their party's health care bill.
Update, 5:43 p.m. ET: Now there are seven. The New York Daily News has just published a statement from hometown Rep. Michael McMahon, D-N.Y. He's in the no column. "I believe the net negatives of this bill outweight the positive effects," McMahon says.
Five of those announcements came today. All of the lawmakers who announced opposition cited concerns about the price tag of the legislation, estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to be more than $1 trillion over 10 years.
"After months of thoroughly reviewing legislative proposals and speaking with constituents and stakeholders, I am not satisfied that this bill before us is a sustainable solution," said Rep. Frank Kratovil, D-Md. Alert readers will remember that he was the congressman hung in effigy during the height of the August town hall meeting uproar.
The other three Democratic freshmen from McCain districts who announced their opposition to the health care bill Friday are: Reps. Bobby Bright of Alabama, Walt Minnick of Idaho, and Suzanne Kosmas of Florida. Two who announced their opposition earlier: Reps. Travis Childers of Mississippi and Parker Griffith of Alabama. All but Griffith have announced their opposition since Election Day, when Democrats suffered humiliating defeats in the New Jersey and Virginia governors races.
Still on the fence: Reps. Tom Perriello, D-Va., John Boccieri, D-Ohio, Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., Betsy Markey, D-Colo., and Harry Teague, D-N.M."
LOOKS like you Move.on types will have a number of vulnerable Dems to go after.

Meanwhile, the repukes are making fools of themselves this morning on The Hill, trying to derail the debate on the bill. Rep. Louise Slaughter is reminding the members of the dishonest ads that have been circulating, paid for by the insurance companies, that say things like "seniors--if you pick the 'wrong doctor' under this plan you could face a 10K$ fine and possible jail time."
One by one, the cons are standing before the microphones, whining and lying. This will all make great campaign footage for their opponents come next election.

Looks like Baird in this interview has decided to vote 'no.'
Adam Smith had an interesting comment about why he is 50-50 and the lack of outreach from Pelosi or the White House.
"(Adam) Smith said he understands his support for the measure could be critical for its passage.
"Reaching 218 is tough even without me," Smith said. It takes 218 votes to pass a bill in the House.
Smith said he has had little contact from Democratic leadership, except for a phone call from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last weekend.
"If in fact they need my vote, they haven't acted like they do," Smith said in an interview.
He said he was also surprised he hadn't heard from the White House. Smith chaired President Obama's campaign in Washington state during the presidential election.
Smith said he knows if the House doesn't act it would be a "significant setback." But he also said the bill costs too much and "shies away from what needs to be done to control(medical) costs."
Posted by: Puget Sound | November 07, 2009 at 10:50 AM
The republicans standing in opposition all use the same prop, a foot-tall bundle of paper which seems suspiciously light, and characterize the bill as a "job-killing government takeover" with overwhelming popular opposition. As if the small business exemptions aren't in the bill, as if the private sector does such a great job (the health insurance industry as it exists today is, in fact, our best argument for a single payer, Medicare for All system), and as if those polls demonstrating overwhelming support for a public option simply never happened.
Rethugs at their worst, providing great material for the upcoming 2010 midterms.
Posted by: sparky | November 07, 2009 at 10:53 AM
Really Sparkles?
Stop Blaming Rethugslicans. Concentrate on the Dems for a second. They got the votes.
Why are the Blue Dogs running scared?
(how about that Trillion plus price tag?)
You don't need any Rethugs to pass this. It can be all Dems. Forget about blaming the Rethugs on this. The Dems have the votes to pass if they want it.
And this is just the House with the overwhelming majority.
Wait til it gets to the Senate...

You are so full of crap, Sparkles, its hilarious. Keep spouting your progressive talking points about the GOP bill helping the insurance companies - have you read it ? Of course, Maddow, Olbermann, Matthews, Schultz and all of the left-wingers who incorporate progressives as dittoheads will feed you these half-truths and you keep on worshiping at their altar of Obamao. In order for a GOP plan to be credible, it must reign in the insurance providers and the amendment process would allow them to do that, but I forgot - they are dead set against a bipartisan bill, which we deserve. The GOP alternative has been straight up about keeping costs down and not transferring costs to the states, unlike Pelosicare does in a big way.
However, Pelosi, Hoyer and the Dem leadership have demonstrated that they don't want to have anything of the GOP bill and want to RAM a 2000-page toxic shock syndrome bill through the House, not caring about the ramifications it has on us, just as long as it satisfies their criteria for a power grab. Meanwhile, if this monster passes, it will cripple our economy more, lead to more health care rationing, severely damage small businesses and cause a lack of motivation of those who want to be a doctor and lead to a shortage in doctors. One way or the other, this will come back and bite the Democrat House leadership and those who vote for Pelosicare.

You are hilarious Hood. Your twisted logic is prehistoric. Yes KIRO-FM is a flop. I predicted that the moment they decided to go FM. People who have discerning minds don't want to switch back and forth between AM and FM while driving, between the only news outlets available to the public today. However, Dori Monson is the ONLY reason KIRO-FM has any ratings at all! Yes, Dick "Tater" Cheney spent his "Veterans Days" filling out deferrment applications (5 of them). He spent his pre-VP days offshoreing his corporate accounts to pay nearly nothing in U.S. taxes.
While the working class in America watched their kids go off to war, Cheney sat comfortably at home, knowing that every day can be a "banking holiday".

I spotted him getting up from his table at The Old Spaghetti Factory down on the city's waterfront. I had just walked in and was being ushered to my table by the petite Asian woman hostess. There he was, walking past me, leaving a table comprised of Star and the girls, and his everpresent Pastor, who had a huge Bible open on the table. I caught up with him as he was entering the men's room. Not wanting to have a pissing match in a pisseree, I chose to address him before he entered. "You, Sir ae a hore's ass," I said loudly. He wheeled and gave me a dopey , angry look. "You've had your homeless team of thugs beat me up, restaurant managers under your pay attack me, next I guess you'll sic your Bitch Boy, Phil, on me, who knows. Hey Sparkles
How come the only bi-partisan support is in defeating this bill. You will have 30 plus Dems joining Republicans in trying to stop this bill. It won't be enough as with a number of side deals Speaker Pelosi will get the 218 votes needed.
What does it say about a bill that even with a huge majority will 'squeeze by' at best.
So on one side you only have Dems voting for it and on the other side you have Dems and Repubs voting against it.
Well, it will make life in the Senate interesting.
