There is not one other senator that I detest as much as Jeff Sessions. He's the epitome of smarmy. The man needs to learn to act like a grown up. Even his smile is phoney.

I dunno- there's lot o' smarmy in the party of no- Graham comes to mind here. Good thing we've got some serious folks there on our side to keep the lid on the cons jar.

I learned of some of the issues for the Euphrates in an article about global drought in January. Even in our own state, the Methow, Entiat, and Okanogan rivers that feed the Columbia are also dwindling. The Wenatchee River is half what it used to be, all because the glaciers that feed them are disappearing. Because the hydro projects on the Columbia maintain a certain pool level, everything looks normal. Makes one wonder where the breaking point is, but as one Forest Service employee told me, once we recognize that point, it will be too late.

Chux latest hero: Alabama Republican Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, bigot.

Reagan put his name up for a Federal Court position but he was declined.

"It got worse. Another damaging witness--a black former assistant U.S. Attorney in Alabama named Thomas Figures--testified that, during a 1981 murder investigation involving the Ku Klux Klan, Sessions was heard by several colleagues commenting that he "used to think they [the Klan] were OK" until he found out some of them were "pot smokers." Sessions claimed the comment was clearly said in jest. Figures didn't see it that way. Sessions, he said, had called him "boy" and, after overhearing him chastise a secretary, warned him to "be careful what you say to white folks." Figures echoed Hebert's claims, saying he too had heard Sessions call various civil rights organizations, including the National Council of Churches and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, "un-American." Sessions denied the accusations but again admitted to frequently joking in an off-color sort of way. In his defense, he said he was not a racist, pointing out that his children went to integrated schools and that he had shared a hotel room with a black attorney several times."

Also, implicated in possible voter fraud. And "UnAmerican" name-calling? Some things never change.

I think Session's abilities are wishful thinking, chucks. Lindsey Graham alienated a few more hispanics and women today with his " anonymous sources say you are very difficult to get along with!" tirade. Anonymous sources?? He might as well have asked her where she is in the process of menopause and would that affect her decision making. I hope they keep it up...it will just ensure more bad news for the repugs.

Sessions reeked of oafish and steady thoughtlessness. As he claimed the moral high ground by misquoting another judge, the judge in question was firmly in the corner of Sotomayor. No wonder he was never appointed to the Federal judgeship.

Here is a quote from Sessions from 2005.
On September 9, 2005, after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Sessions called his former law professor, Harold Apolinsky, co-author of Sessions's legislation repealing the federal estate tax, which had lost momentum in Congress, and left a voicemail: "Jon Kyl and I were talking about the estate tax. If we knew anybody that owned a business that lost life in the storm, that would be something we could push back with."

I've been listening to Randi's KPTK show. She's good at analysis. Lots of sound bites and commentary.

You're right, Coiler. Randi's got it down. She doesn't like Graham much. The one thing I worry about with Sotomayor is her health. I'm not holding it against her, but we need a good judge in there for the long run.

A few days ago I heard a rundown of Robert's decisions as a judge: always on the side of authority; always on the side of government; always on the side of the majority. It was interesting.
