as yet announceable. "It feels like home here with all these progressives!" she says. The longtime Dave Ross (KIRO m-f, 9a-12p) producer left for NY in 2007 and produced, among other things, CBS's Super Tuesday and Pennsylvania primary coverage. ~~ Last summer the KUOW Ministry of Information shut down the blog started by staffers of popular, public radio magazine show Weekday with Steve Scher (m-f, 9-11a). But since late September, the non-profit corporate masters have loosed their foot on the workers' necks enough to permit a Facebook page. While only mildly interactive, and missing much listener participation, it's mostly links to simultaneously posted material to the utilitiarian Weekday page on the snorific KUOW site. it's at least something! Go, as we did, write on their Wall or join their impressive list of 222 friends... or if you're really Weekday-geeky, buy (!) the 20-second audio intro (music and Steve!) for your iPod.

~~ Every time Linda Thomas of the honeyed yet sounds-like-she-knows-what-she's-talking-about voice, fills in on KIRO, we get emails from males yelling "whoo-dat?!" She's a veteran news chick (and
long-time blogger and doggone it, she's blogging at the Seattle P-I about her experience doing a month-long audition for the Bob Rivers Show (KZOK.m-f, 5-10a) Before you write in calling me a sexist: What does she call her new blog? The News Chick, of course.
~~ The phony, scaretactical right-wing talk radio "issue," the Fairness Doctrine got another flare-up in the news Thursday. (no one but us noticed). The “Broadcaster Freedom Act” by ex-radio talk show host, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind) was re-filed for the 111th Congress. No one (not the Dems, not the media reform activists) wants the TFD except, that is the radio talkers who need topics, and the Republicans who see its frothed-up spector as a way to fund raise and garner base support by bemoaning their upcoming victimhood and persecution by the new Democratic majority. The TFD, imposed in 1949, mandated that FCC license holders allow competing points of view to have equal time and access. This was in an era of scarce media resources -- many parts of the country were served only by thinly-spread radio stations, and newspapers. But the regulation was always difficult to enforce and hard to put into practice, so it was dropped in 1987. Right-wing radio sprung up, and flourished in the vacuum. Media has now expanded to include satellite radio, cable television and the internets, which has eliminated the original "scarcity of resources" argument so important to the Doctrine originally. But this hasn't stopped Big Pants to warn of his impending, jackbooted stiflement by the Obama liberals. Sean Hannity, in his stiff-lipped "Conservatism in exile" stance says nearly every day, "I don't know if I'll be here next year at this time." The Democrats will not let Pence's bill get out of committee, and the Republicans will claim that they're fighting liberal censorship. It's another straw man to knock down, and to claim victory for valiantly defeating. Meanwhile, the quo will remain status, and The Fairness Doctrine will remain an historical footnote.
~~ O'Reilly is quitting radio at the end of next month, but his short "Radio Talking Points, commentary " feature on politics, issues, and current events will live on for those with political "special needs," and stations in red states.

KIRO (FM Side) just announced they will be home broadcaster of the new Seattle Sounders FC Soccer games. Interesting that it's to be on the FM side...guess they're full-up on the new sports AM side.

WOW! KIRO/Bonneville is so dynamic and agressive in it's moves - to compare it with KOMO-KVI/Fisher is like night and day. It's like they say...move it along or get out of the way. Fisher/P.I.: pretty much in the same boat?
