"People up here are mad," says Anchorage progressive radio talker and blogger Shannyn Moore.
Alaskans couldn't believe it when Sarah Palin said in Thursday's debate that she knew how it felt to be without health care.
"Her husband and her kids have always had free medical care because they're Alaska natives."
What's more, Shannyn says, they are not middle class, they're Alaskan upper class, "They own a lake front house and a float plane! Her personal assets are worth over a million dollars. It's never been a struggle for her."
Moore is a radio talker booted off Anchorage's KUDO for being too progressive.
Alaskans, Moore says, trusted Palin on a personal level, not an political ideological one. They judged her honest and forthright. But "She stood up in front of America at the RNC, and lied about her record. She lied again last night about her support of the divesting of the [Alaska public funds] in companies dealing in Darfur. She's been fighting that for a year and a half -- nobody up here could believe it when she said that!"
Palin's violated that trust, she says, and will face the political consequences if she and McCain lose and she must come back to govern.
Moore watched the Biden-Palin debate at Anchorage's Bear Tooth Theater Pub with about 1000 Alaskans who had to be separated to avoid fisticuffs. As you can hear from the boos and the catcalls (in the vid below) at Palin's ducking and weaving, Alaskans were incredulous at her performance to say the least.
She self-describes as a moose-killin' & grillin,' 2nd Amendment progressive and spends most of her day these days talking on national radio and teevee as one of a handful of Alaska media voices from who has consistently asked the popular Palin tough questions before she became nationally notorious.
Moore appeared on Keith Olbermann to talk about Palin's friend, the witch doctor, who not only told her what to do, but prayed her into power.
Our conversation was interrupted twice Friday while Shannyn went on the radio with Rose Aquilar at SF's public station KALW, then on Radio8Ball, Andras Jones' whimsy (Fridays 12-1p) on Seattle's unfortunately low-powered alternative talk KKNW (1150AM).
She's appeared on Amy Goodwin, Lionel, Thom Hartmann, Geraldo, Fox & Friends, she's on the Jon Elliot Show (KPTK t-f 12-3a) most every night for an hour, and she gets calls from all over the country to do local radio.
The one time seminary student and outspoken progressive is a petunia in the right-wing onion patch that is the Alaskan market where talk radio is typified by such as Eddie Burke whom Moore describes as "remarkably pathetic." She received death threats when Burke put her and other organizers of an anti-Palin rally's phone numbers on-air.
"Eddie packs a gun -- the first time I met him, it was at a birthday party, and he showed it to me three times. Moore insists she doesn't what he was compensating for, but says, "It was awkward at best."
Shannyn says she's looking forward to Oct. 10 when the paperwork is
released and the people will be able to see the testimony and other
evidence against the Palins in the bipartisan abuse-of-power case known as "troopergate."
Alaskans are not amused, she says, with the Sarah Palin they're only now discovering after all the scrutiny by the national press and the political operatives. Her favorable numbers among Alaskans have dropped 17 points in three weeks.
"Alaskans believed her when she said she was open and transparent, with the [troopergate] investigation, she told me, 'bring it on'."
But now that's all changed. Republican legal and PR brigades are fighting the daylight tooth and nail.
The huge legal force (who self-describes, pompously as The Truth
Squad) has, according, to Moore have "taken over my state." That
prompted her blog post, GET THE F*%# OUT OF MY STATE!
Ed O’Callaghan, a former top U.S. terrorism prosecutor from New York and a phalanx of lawyers provided by a front group of wingnut Rev. James Dobson Liberty Legal Institute from Plano, Texas have descended on Alaska to bolster Palin's local attorneys.
A judge has agreed that the investigation is appropriate and in the proper jurisdiction and the subpoenas must be obeyed.
"If they're as damning as I think they could be, she could very well face impeachment," says Moore.

ooh eee ooh ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang.....
If you read some of the letters to the editor in the larger Alaskan papers, you will see she is right on the mark. Sounds like Sara will have some 'splainin' to do.
Posted by: sparky | October 03, 2008 at 05:22 PM
Her approval ratings have been in decline up there
"Palin still has overwhelming support among Alaska Republicans. But many Democrats and independents, who gave her positive marks just a month ago, have changed their views."
All her winking last night on tv was slutty.

You old menopausal liberal progressive bitches need to get a grip.
You remind me of sitting in an airport when a pretty flight attendant walks by and the women shoot darts at her with their lives.
Piss and moan-cant you do better?

eyes-not lives.

oh thats better, If I was a broad, my pre-menopausal lasik surgery wouldn't want darts thrown at my eyes

For the record, Rose Aguilar hosts Your Call, which has as a flagship station KALW 91.7 FM in San Francisco (not KWAL). Relatively recently, it has also been carried on KUSP in Santa Cruz. The left-leaners on here would probably enjoy that show.

"Say it ain't so Joe"
Man, how can someone not like this lady. She has more substance, poise, looks, and smarts than all three of them women who represent this state in the Congress and Olympia. If You Washington Liberals can vote for them ugly ducklings, you can vote for this bright new refreshing face (don't get confused with Darcy now) that will be a big part of this country as we go forward reversing the mistakes of this Liberal controlled House and Senate under the poor leadership of BOTOX Pelosi.
Watching that clip from above, It looked like the crowd was watching "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" with parts of the debate dubbed in. How do you Libs fall for such shenanigans.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 08:50 PM
If you like platitudes and cliches then vote for her. She is a nobody like Bush in 2000 who has no record to run on.
Posted by: Coiler | October 03, 2008 at 09:08 PM
Have to repeat myself: She belongs on a float. But she'll have to practice the wave...
Vote for her Steven. Even the worst candidate will appeal to someone...
What's funny, Coiler, is that she is Bush except she talks too much. He didn't put his ignorance on display like she does. He answered briefly. She goes on and on and on. If they had clipped some of her answers last night, the play-by-play would be different this morning.
Thank god they let her talk.
Regarding her lack of empathy with Joe's response about raising kids alone, she was too busy referring to notes and trying to keep up to even know what he was saying. Talk about a scripted performance...

The fourteen so-called lies are on McCain/Palin website. http://www.johnmccain.com/McCainReport/Read.aspx?guid=343ba934-6417-4b65-ac9e-92348acb5e97
The "lies" are actually differences in interpretation and contradictions on McCain's part. Few can stand alone - most are open to explanation and interpretation. Maybe all.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 10:06 PM
A lie is a lie is a lie. Why try to say different.
Nice raise those Seattle Teachers are getting. No wonder the state budget is balloning.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 10:20 PM
I see Palin has re-lit the panic in the Seattle pergressives. Good.
Another post without substance to fire up joanie.
Yawn.......
Go ahead joanie, spread your vile spittle.
Posted by: chucks | October 03, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Well, chucks, nobody knows vile like you do. If that's what it is, I hope you get smacked with plenty of it.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 10:30 PM
Im just wondering why, if she did such a wonderful job last night, that the McCain campaign announced she would be giving no more interviews, nor would she appear on any Sunday morning news shows.
Posted by: sparky | October 03, 2008 at 10:31 PM
And did you see that report, more and more companies are hiring less. Only one common denominator to why this is happening. The Libs have been in control for the last 2 years and let this happen so they can take control of the White House.
Way to go Lib fans. You not only put this country in jeopardy, but you are willing to put it through more harm with a vote for Hussein. I think we all can agree that we dont want to see another 1930's like depression. Thats what we will get with a Hussein President.
Not only will we be forced to listen to him on his Presidential Radio Network and be forcefed his DEAN Rhetoric but we will also be forced to sing songs of praise for the almighty or the "Truth Squads" willcome and get you and put you away like the 20's and 30's of Stalin/Lenin Russia. Scary indeed.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 10:33 PM
So, there was not life before 2006? Another totally absurd and stupid post by an ignorant imbecile.
Sorry, Sparky. I just cannot tolerate these idiots who so enthusiastically sent this country down the drain. You be nice for both of us.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 10:38 PM
They have more important things for her to do Sparky. 69 Million watched her and were pleased at the way she handled herself against "I was shot at" Biden. I expect her to be at many campaign fund raisers and giving speeches to those Sixpack Joes and Soccer Moms who will vote for her in key states to put the McCain/Palin ticket over the top and into the White House.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 10:40 PM
the old Obama cultist libs and old school feminist harridans and hags here just don't get it. Palin was a Machiavellian pick by McCain, born out of deep worry that the "God, Guns and Gays" morons in the Repub base wouldn't turn out to vote unless they were thrown some red meat like a bornagin, totally anti-abortion candidate. I approve of her pick primarily for that reason although i like the way she gets under the skin and makes jealous a pompous narcissistic ass like Obama. Obama and his wife must be stopped short of victory. They are that bad. McCain is an acceptable Repub for Hillary Dems, whereas Bush wasn't, and Palin will have to do. It's that simple.
Posted by: Tommy008 | October 03, 2008 at 10:45 PM
I hope nevets finds the help he needs, with or without public assistance.
Posted by: Coiler | October 03, 2008 at 10:48 PM
Look at the numbers Joanie. Look at where Unemployment was, Gas prices, the Housing market. Are you that blind. If anyone is ignorant, it is you. It is your hate for President Bush that makes you oblivious to what has happened since jan. 2007. You need to get over it.
Gee, asking Joanie to look at something. What am I thinking. Nothing can get inside that cave of hers.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 10:50 PM
And what "help" would that be coiler.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Well, how come she's not helping then?
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 10:59 PM
Well, we know what will be the dominate news on Monday.
OJ Simpson guilty.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:01 PM
All the polls show Obama up. So, since your barbie doll is so great, why is McCain losing?
Maybe, steven, you're the one stuck in a cave somewhere - probably still in Nam.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:01 PM
Palin has lost the confidence of everyone right and left except the religious right-wingers. The independents, the silly voters who matter the most, think she's unfit for office.
Her folksy dress-up speeches mimicking policy impress the evangelicals who already believe she's the Savior-ette, and the many middle aged men who wanna fuck her.
Posted by: blathering michael | October 03, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Gee, steven, just the tactic the soon-to-be-impeached prom queen used last night: change the subject.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:02 PM
I don't know why Sparky is not helping you Joanie, maybe she is starting to see past the sign.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:05 PM
I miss those years before Bush fucked it all up. I don't think SNL will miss him.
Posted by: Coiler | October 03, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Losing. excuse me
ROFL
No, he is right where he wants to be. Hussein should be riding a 20 point lead by now but its what 4-5 points. No, its Hussein who is stuck in the mud, McCain is just warming up.
Damn B'lam, I thought you were happily married.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:11 PM
I don't need Sparky or anyone else to help me. Unlike you parrots, liberals - educated, intelligent and informed liberals - speak for themselves.
And call out ignorance when we see it and read it. And right now it is smothering this blog.
How does a person become like you? How does such ignorance become internalized and celebrated? How, Steven? How does that happen?
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Common sense. Something you obviously dont have.
But at least we are making progress. A year ago, you were a Independent. Then later, you switched to Progressive. Now you admit you are a Liberal. Feels good to spweak the truth for once huh.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:18 PM
the debate was good, but it is over and they are back to digging up more dirt on Palin - yawn. FYI - there is a list of 14 lies told by Biden. I see that Sarah Palin will be getting another interview with Katie Couric- hmmm....
It's time for McCain to take off the gloves, as Obama has done for the last few weeks. I probably will not view the next debate, but hope that McCain effectively exposes the dark side (no racism intended) of BHO and there is a good amount there. In the process, he needs to implicate the Democrats led by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd in Congress for stonewalling attempts made by McCain and other Republicans to regulate Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae - likely due to their copious contibutions from them, which led to the current crisis and that's a fact - regardless of what Randi or MSLSD says.
My prediction: Whoever wins this election will be a one term President - for different reasons- Obama will F - up the economy and legislate more political correctness with the assistance of Congress. "Well look what Bush did" does not fly. Bush f---ed up a number of things, but we need change for the better - not change for the worse which is what Obama-Biden and a Democrat congress with a 15%-20% approval rating would bring, as sure as rain over the weekend. Not afraid of the Fairness Doctrine, but would not be surprised if Pelosi tried it. Afraid of more entitlement programs and the 95% of the people who would get lower taxes in an Obama Administration is bullshit because 33% don't pay any taxes - he meant income redistribution from the most extremist liberal to run for President.
McCain and Palin would clearly be an improvement over Bush-Cheney and would reform a few things and work with a difficult congress - I'd like to see more blue-dog Democrats elected who will help restore integrity in Government, which has a long ways to go. There are many incumbents that should be removed from Congress in November, but doubtful if that will happen. Instead, you all will get the government you deserve - and kick yourselves in the ass 2 years down the road if the Democrats control all and after January 20, 2009 - it really won't be Bush's fault,
Posted by: KS | October 03, 2008 at 11:22 PM
And you equate common sense with ignorance?
Yes, you make my point, Steven.
liberal = progressive = independent. I am whichever you wish to label me.
Rightwingers seem to need labels, don't they? Someday you may actually reach individuation and throw your labels away, think for yourself, and become enlightened...
Naw.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:24 PM
No wonder you like Hussein so much. The most Liberal Senator in the Senate.
Why do you give Hussein a pass in earmarking money to his wifes employer so they can give her a raise.
How do you give him a pass for sitting in church sunday after sunday listeneing to "Hate America" sermons from Rev. Wright.
How do you give him a pass for being close freinds with a domestic terrorist.
Any informed person would question those actions.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:24 PM
Oh, Steven. This is a gift from the gods just for you:
Bush 2000 = Palin 2008.
Tonight on MSNBC, Countdown aired a video compilation showing the similarity in rhetoric between George W. Bush in 2000 and Sarah Palin in 2008. Keith Olbermann reported that “the people around [Palin] — the top-level campaign staffers crafting her message of change and reform — are almost all from the inner-circle of the same Bush campaigns and administration from which she offers that change.” He concluded, “Small surprise then that even in the very act of claiming her background, her experience qualify her to offer us that change from Bush, she does so sounding almost exactly like Bush.” Watch it:
click the link and watch the movie if you dare...
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:28 PM
If you're an informed person, you should be questioning those assertions. You'd find nothing there.
But you're not an informed person so you don't question them. Do you?
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Common Sense is what makes me the person I am. I am really sorry you have none. It would go good with that education you have.
And no, I only label you what you say you are. It is you who goes and puts labels on individuals on the BW. Like your famous "you are a racist" to many who just think Hussein is not ready to become President.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:31 PM
Then for you common sense equals ignorance. That is a sad admission.
You brought up the labels, Steven. So don't go doing that right-wing trick of changing the rhetoric once you're caught at it.
Posted by: joanie | October 03, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Nothing there? excuse me again.
ROFL
How blind are you. I seen the sermons, you seen them. You seen the earmark going to the University, you seen the reports of Maggilla getting her raise soon after. How can you sit there and say there is nothing there.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:35 PM
You are going in circles again Joanie. Is that your new trick. Grow up okay.
Posted by: nevets | October 03, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Which is another way of saying you can't keep up so are giving up.
Fine with me.
Let's talk when you can keep up.
G'night.

I didn't see it.
But Yknow Joanie. Take away the Govenor and Global Warming stuff, and President Bush sounds like Hussein today. "CHANGE"
Posted by: nevets | October 04, 2008 at 12:02 AM
Here I am watching your link and you go run away like a little baby. Not the Joanie I know. I would put the "S" word here but...Now did I hurt your feelings. The truth hurts huh. I would say I'm sorry but then you would call me sexist, or something worse. No telling how many labels you got for me.

Shannyn Moore is more Alaskan that some of the people who moved there. She was born there, and when KUDO had podcasts available, I listened to a few of them. Especially on the Exxon Valdez anniversary, she was mentioning one of her previous careers, fishing. That career kind of got wiped out a little, by a drunk supertanker captain in 1989. Her family is from Homer. I wonder if KUDO's owners even know how the contractor that operates the station handles the talent. The station is owned by the local IBEW.(THey ran commercials for both the pro and anti-IBEW candidates on a local utility board election a few months back, by the way)
The way she described herself proves something about Conservatives who label, they paint all Liberals with a broad brush. Not all Liberals hate guns, and although I consider myself a moderate, some might call me lefty. I do not hate guns, in fact, at a family reunion a few years ago in Montana, I tried out a little skeet shooting. It was the first time I ever fired a gun in my life. (Everybody there that day is still here, by the way) Montana's Governor is an example of working across party lines. He is up for re-election, and in that state, they still elect the Lt. Governor the same way we elect the VP, and Schwiezer's running mate, is the same Republican he picked in 2004. His attitude at the time when asked how he was going to make it work, was great. He said, "Don't know, but we will make it work".
Liberal Talk Radio hosts like Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz have said on their show they oppose bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, and when they have seemed to be on the same station as some right wingers in some markets, it shows they might not need it. Randi Rhodes might be one of the most divisive on her side, but her home station also carries Rush, which in a way, probably works out. Ed Schultz, who is carried by KUDO in Anchorage by the way, also is pro-gun, and a hunter, and an ex-athlete, kind of breaking one stereotype conservatives paint liberals with.
Then there are cases where Liberals are Conservatives, such as the Australian Liberal Party, which is actually Conservative, and there was the BC Liberal Party, for which their term of office 2001-2005 were actually seeming Conservative, the privatization of BC Rail attempted privatization of BC Ferries(Not great on that last one, the former, I will admit, they did o.k, but could have been better), and cut provincial taxes. The NDP, which lost almost every seat in 2001 in the provincial legislature, was saying the income tax cuts benefited only the rich. What led the BC Liberals to that victory in 2001, the election was called during a Transit Strike in Vancouver, the NDP doing nothing, kind of caused enough resentment with the voters, that they went looking for the Liberal Party as an alternative. Looks like the NDP might whittle away at Campbell's majority next May. The fashion that Campbell has swung back to the Left might have angered enough voters that the NDP has a chance. Unfortunately, for the most part, Victoria is only a two-party system, unlike yesterday's English Canada leaders debate, where there were 5 party leaders debating.(The Quebec debate was the day before) One bad thing about the system in Canada, is that the elections can be called at any time, unlike what is done here, and now in British Columbia for provincial elections. The good side, the Federal Campaigns are mercifully short. This election was called in early September, the election is on the 14th of October. The party leaders are courting everybody's vote, including the seperatists in Quebec going after the Federalists. Conservatives courting the Indo-Canadian and Chinese votes in Vancouver, while retaining the Oil Patch(Alberta and Saskatchewan). The provincial Conservatives in Newfoundland and led by a colorful character who was slammed by Harper over something, felt stabbed in the back, and is supporting anybody but Conservative representing the province in Ottawa. Canada's election, observing it from down here, is good comic relief from the out of control fear-mongering rhetoric coming from both sides at times down here.

I like Gov Palin and I dislike Sen Biden. With that premise ingrained I tried to watch the debate as objectively as possible and I came away with this.
It became evident soon into the debate that we were dealing with competency versus personality, and while Gov Palin certainly trumpts in the latter we as an American public want the former in a VPOTUS who is that proverbial heartbeat away. Sen Biden, with his obvious experience and grasp of International affairs and the fact that he's learned all the political ground rules and knows his way around - won the competency test. In my view, he had to stay away from two important foopahs: 1. condescention and 2. bloviating. While he didn't completely avoid the latter, he controlled it and there was no evidence of the former, so he kept from destroying himself. Gov Palin won the personality test and 'capturing the American imagination' test but that's not good enough for prime time in a Presidential election.
Alas, like (I believe Sparky said herein before) I fear Gov Palin may go down in the annals of American History as a SNL parody and could have well even damaged her 'staying power' as Governor of Alaska. This does not reflect well on Sen McCain in his ability to make wise choices and I think the polls will continue to swing. Those lite-blue states will now turn fully blue and the electoral count will soon be obvious.
It WILL be an Obama administration.
Gov Palin I applaud you for giving it a heck of a try, you are indeed a talented person with much to offer. History will record you as the first Republican VP candidate and you will now fade into the background much like your Democrat counter-part G. Ferraro. I wish you the best in your future for yourself and your beautiful family. I pray your son, along with all our other troops remain safe.
Like I said, barring an unusual high-impact October surprise favoring the McCain camp,I consider this race over. BUH-bye!

Steven, you should take heed of the old saying, "It is better to be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."
Joanie, I remember feeling as desperate as they do, when we were stuck with Kerry as our candidate. This morning Im seening even more "nyahh nyahhh Obama is a poopy head." Oh, and then Steven throws in the bit about teacher raises for a Scooby Doo moment!
Well have fun, everyone. I am out the door now to join a Move On group that is canvassing the town, ringing doorbells for my Democratic candidates. Have you gone out and talked with people about your guy, Steven, Tommy, Brian? Nahhh, I suppose its easier to sit here and call Joanie and me names. Whatever!
