"Is it over for McCain?" Michael Savage (KTTH m-f, 6-9p) asks. He answers his own question with an emphatic 'yes'. "He's split conservatives right down the middle... again."
Another high-rated conservative talk host is trashing Sarah Palin and McCain's chances in November.
Just after Dr. Laura confessed to listeners she was troubled by Sarah Palin, Savage spent a day criticizing McCain, and the Republican Party for nominating her.
"... even Joe Lieberman would have been a better choice than Sarah Palin. He
would have been stronger on
national defense. He would have been
stronger on fighting Islamofascism. And for all his far-left views, he
taught his daughter well enough so that she didn’t get pregnant as a
teenager."
He says Republicans are pretending that the media has turned against
them and convention coverage was hurt by the hurricane, "They can
pretend that only evil, sexist, misogynists are against Sarah Palin.
But the truth is that McCain’s cronies have made a fatal choice. They
ran this gal up the flagpole and the pole broke from shock."
[...]
But the Republican puppet masters gave Sarah Palin the nod ... They thought women were generic."

All joking aside, what has happened to the Republican party?
It's literally a disgrace.
I was watching but not listening to the convention. I saw Pappy Bush and Barb. They looked old and sort of feeble. You gotta wonder what in the world they were thinking and feeling. And then the radio (to which I was listening) played part of Bush's speech in which he said he loved them. Then went on to say that he knew what it was like being President.
I don't think so. I'd give a hundred dollars to know what Pappy was thinking when he heard that one.
Posted by: joanie | September 03, 2008 at 04:14 AM
BTW, I heard that CNN was barred from the convention? Anybody know about that? Something about asking hard questions...
Posted by: joanie | September 03, 2008 at 04:21 AM
"Pappy" (someone of huge accomplishments) was wondering if he should bring his overcoat come next January for the Swearing in of John McCain as Commander in Chief.
How 'BOUT that Lieberman...
Wonder what ol Ned Lamont is doing these days.
For those that watch Morning Joe, Mika Brezinsky was noting the liberal tilt of the press as evidence in its bias against Sarah Palin. For those that watch Mika, this is a fairly big admission.

You have got to be fucking kidding. The morons on the left are doing what they always do when they fear an apponent. Mass news stories full of slander with little truth with the goal being to get the right to surrender.
Every left leaning blog, every left leaning newspaper, broadcast network and magazine is going full steam ahead in a concerted effort to undermine Gov Palin and destroy her reputation. You people are pure evil sometimes.
If she has the brass to fight this one out, you will not win.
I can understand joanie fighting to defeat Palin. She is envious of any body that is sucessful, and to have a woman succeed where she has not would be unbearable. But the rest of you women on this board are just plain frustrating. I can not believe that you are so willing to sink a successful woman because her daughter got layed without protection.

ms joanie: is it illegal for teachers in State of WA to strike?
Posted by: Duffman | September 03, 2008 at 08:27 AM
chucks -spot on.
lets break it down and you can compare the Skedaddler to Sarah Palin:
Sarah Palin - Gov/Mayor/City Council Member. Highly respected at home and now throughout the Nation.
Sarah Palin- Mother of 5, Smart/Powerful/Attractive, and married to a good looking man -highschool sweetheart- who fully supports her career goals.
So, you can understand why some are hellbent on taking Palin out.
Many of the 'ladies' posting on this board look at Palin and find themselves wanting.
In life I have found -and I am sure it is true for you- that some of the meanest/most unfair comments/backstabs made towards a successful woman are made by other women.
Duff can probably add to it.
Posted by: Puget Sound | September 03, 2008 at 08:39 AM
DailyKos - I wish they would keep pushing the envelope, IMO. Whatever it takes to dump the slut from the ticket will only help the GOP. As long as the deputy headliner is the mother of a lascivious whore the ticket stands no chance.
Teachers - If the Bellevue School Board had any balls they would get a court order to have every teacher in that district rounded up and thrown in jail. And once they were locked up they'd fire them all.

Are you calling for some old School Ronald Reagan ala the Air Traffic Controller Strike back in 82?
Posted by: Puget Sound | September 03, 2008 at 08:52 AM
GG
The more DailyKos pushes the less effective it becomes. People -most people- don't like Palin being called a slut.
Disagree with her, but don't make it personal.

Love your 'spirit' GG....joanie probably won't respond to a 'gnat' haha
Posted by: Duffman | September 03, 2008 at 08:54 AM
a - Pulling an FAA is leaving the kid gloves on; if WA had state racketeering laws we should be seeing sheriff's deputies seizing the assets of the BEA right now as a criminal enterprise and liens being placed on teacher's homes to pay for strike breaking operations.
b - I disagree with Palin's family's whorish behavior so, in this instance, I'm not sure how to criticize without using personalized adjectives for the mayor, her slut daughter and the bastard child.
Anyway, cheers!

Puget Sound: Kos doesn't call Palin a slut, Gary does. Kos represents millions of people in the Democratic Party, kind of like the Southern Baptist church does in the Republican Party. It's more generational than ideological: they are not the most liberal in the party (they would have backed someone like Kucinich if they were) They were against Hillary but widely split among the other candidates, didn't for the most part come on board w/Obama until late in the primaries. Kos hasn't "hi-jacked" the party (they'd like to as so many would) but they're a loud voice, one of several who have earned the right to be a constituency. The R's are trying to duplicate them on the right, but so far haven't been able to get that sort of on-line grassroots. They have the advantage of the ability to raise money really well which is why the R's come after them so hard by blaming everything in their comments threads on the owners of the site. (Imagine if the Republicans had to account for everything you read or write in BlatherWatch comments). Kos has chosen as have I, a policy of very little policing of these threads. That people jump in anonymously and say things they never would if they had to attach their name is one of the prices of this kind of freedom. Try that on Sound Politics or Free Republic --those sites are kept squeaky clean and pretty much ideologically pure. (right-wing flaming is OK, but don't try if you have a different POV). They're boring unless you are a right-wing robot. I prefer the ideologically consistent commenters like yourself, PS, or GG, the Sparky's the Joanies, coiler, the Fremonts or the various Andrews who at least bring a semblance of an argument to the table, than Duffman's one-liners which serve to be a catalyst to the infernal name-calling back and forth, cat fights and ganging-up that's served to drive so many away from these threads.
I love robust discussion, and encourage people no matter what side they're on to comment.

Tonight will be her night to either make it or break it, we shall see.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Obama's Mother only 18 when she gave birth to Barry? maybe she should have aborted him the way many on the left would have dealt with Bristol's "affliction".
Posted by: Brian | September 03, 2008 at 10:52 AM
chucks, you're not comprehending my message...its not about her daughter. I have said many times here that I feel very very sorry for her daughter. I think she should have the kid and give it up for adoption and move on with her life. I dont think she should marry a boy who has publicly mentioned that he does NOT want kids, and has posted pictures of himself on his MySpace page, diddling other girls. What bothers me is that her mother is more interested in pursuing her own ambitions than protecting her daughter from ridicule, and forcing her into a marriage that will last as long as the elections. You dont understand the women's movement very well if you think we should support her because she is a Vagina American...her beliefs are the opposite of mine. She is being mocked because her wing of the party is constantly preaching their morality to the rest of us, and damning those who don't agree. You don't have to like Obama. But I thought you were smarter than to fall for a pretty face over substance that could have been found with any number of other Republican women.

Blam
First off, I do appreciate that you let me on your site. And while with IP Address lookups it isn't totally anonymous you do let us vent under the cover a bit. And I will take ownership of doing a little too much at times.
I regularly read Daily Kos, Democratic Underground, and a few other websites to take the temp of what is being said. But it isn't just anonymous posters. I am referring to the Diarist.
I really feel -and to be consistent felt the same way about Chelsea Clinton, Gore's son, or Amy Carter back in the day- that we should leave the kids or young adults out of it.
You deal with media issues and have probably come in to contact with the offspring of famous people. They have it tough enough and don't need the piling on. The Diarist shots at Sarah Palin for having the child with Downs Syndrome, the initial 'photos' that 'proved' that the 17 year old was the one that gave birth to Twig, and then the comments that Sarah Palin wasn't a good mother by Diarist at the Kos, etc are beyond the pale. I also find some of the comments by supposedly 'enlightened' people questioning the Palin's childcare arrangements are absurd and none of our business. If it was Mr. Palin and not Mrs. Palin running for VP no one would ask who was taking care of the kids. If they tell us they have it covered we should leave it at that.
With that said, people on the other side are gonna pick up and waive the bloody shirt on this. They'll be a backlash and it will energize the base. I am not part of the base, I am socially liberal but I am sending McCain a check in some measure due to the way Palin is being treated. If I am ticked imagine how the real conservatives feel about this.
Obama is being classy and trying to tamp it down from the left. Good luck. The right won't let it be tamped down at this point.
From what I see the 'disagreement' on KOS/Dem Underground sites tends to be how much I hate W sort rather than any real substantive debate with the exception of the Hillary vs Obama split we had for awhile. You had some interesting discussion on those sites and while it got passionate at times I found it interesting.
I recall a couple years ago when Bryan Suits use to post on Democratic Underground or Daily Kos (I forget which one) under the handle 'respect dissent' and it didn't take long for him to get locked out.
In regards to GG, I am trying to engage him a bit by telling him how it works against his cause to have McCain lose rather than give up on him. In the past I have found GG to have it in him to change his mind and damn him he just makes me LMAO at times.
In regards to Duff, a lot of times he isn't given a shot. He was the one true Hillary supporter on this blog and took quite a few slings and arrows. If he was just trolling he would have given it up long ago.
Posted by: Puget Sound | September 03, 2008 at 11:20 AM
You really don't understand conservatives if you have that take. Most people understand that people are imperfect. What counts is what you do when you make a mistake. A baby isn't viewed by the Palin family as a punishment otherwise adoption would be the best answer. The young man's MySpace page is also something I wouldn't take too seriously. I would be very surprised at any 17 year old who put up a MySpace page in which he announced he was looking for a wife.
Give them some space. It has nothing to do with the qualifications of the Grandmother to be ability as VicePresident.
The child will be given a loving home. It will be surrounded by lots of family in a supportive environment.
But that is their choice. We should respect their choice. Isn't that what the whole movement is about. Freedom. Learn it, Live it, Love it.

What you have posted has not gone over my head. The most offensive statment that you put out there that I am aware of was a policy issue. Something about teaching birth control beyond abstainence. Even worse is that I agree with you on that one issue.
Crap like that written by the participant Sandy or even Joanie.
If I wrote such crap about a woman needing to give up a career path to stay home to take care of her children, I would get my head ripped off. It would be a justifiable head ripping at that.
Never have I really paid attention to misogynists, believing that they were primarily red-necks that just did not get it. I guess having a daughter that I successfully raised not to take any crap off of any man combined with a wife that came by it naturally and my unwillingness to tolerate it any place that I ever worked, I did not realise it stiil existed. It shocks the heck out of me that you and others at all levels of society are not shouting it down.
Hell, I am beginning to believe that Rush's comments about NOW is not just schtick. Where are they?
Enough of my crap, I have a job interview. Wish me luck (please).

Yes, correct - to clarify ... I have not seen DailyKos or anyone else on the mainstream fringe left except Broad Street Review call Bristol Palin a slut. That is me alone. I'd be a huge hypocrite if I'd didn't visit as much venom on the Wench of Wasilia as I have John Edwards and Jim McGreevy and so forth.
Though, to further clarify, I'm not calling her a slut and a skank only just to be fair. More so because these are accurate terms in application to her. All indications are she's a loose hussy from a white trash family. While that may describe a large plurality of America today, one doesn't win elections by appealing to the lowest common denominator.
What's more aggregious even is the RNC happily feteing Bristol's breeding stud, his dick still wet from impregnating her (and probably a large % of the rest of that shitehole town) at the convention as though he's Prince William. This is turning into nothing short of a surreal horror show. So much so that I'm seriously considering changing my voter registration to Washington just so I can vote against Rob McKenna for slobbering over Palin (the idea of helping to reelect the Queen of King County, though, is where I'd draw the line - Rossi could beat a baby with a dead baby and he'd still have my support).

McCain: Stop questions on Palin background - “This nonsense is over,” declared senior campaign adviser Steve Schmidt in a written statement.
Is the McCain campaign really so grossly obtuse and genuinely glib to think that media story priorities are dictated by their likes and dislikes? What a joke and a total self-parody they have become.
Posted by: Gay Gary | September 03, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Howard Kurtz related to Harper's Ken Silverstein that Steve Schmidt looked "shell shocked" at the convention:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/linkset/2005/04/11/LI2005041100587.html?hpid=topnews
"I’ve talked to many political professionals over the years who were mad at the media, or me in particular. But I’ve never quite had a conversation like the one Tuesday night with Steve Schmidt. He was absolutely furious as he unloaded on the journalistic community for, in his view, unfairly savaging Sarah Palin.
Sure, it is in his interest to try to get the press to tone things down. But Schmidt–Sen. John McCain’s hard-headed, no-nonsense, on-message strategist–really sounded shell-shocked. And so he was saying things on the record that senior aides usually say only under a cloak of anonymity. That doesn’t make his accusations right. But it does suggest to me that a brewing conflict between McCain and his media chroniclers–one that makes the ol’ Straight Talk Express days a distant memory–has reached the boiling point.

Good luck on the interview, chucks, I hope you blow them away with your charming self.
I have no idea who those people like "Sandy" are, regardless of Duffman's fantasies. Once, Bla'm told us that he has several thousand hits a day on this site ..maybe that was for one controversial issue, I dont know. I do know of several people personally, who read here everyday and never post their own comments. I am sure there are hundreds of others who do so, as well. So if one of them decides to chime in, I take the name at face value. Because it is anonymous, people say things here they would never say face to face. But I do know that the ad homs keep people from posting.
Puts, my views of what conservatives like to tell me what I should and should not do comes from the Dobsons, the Schlafleys, the Dr. Lauras, most everyone who writes in to the newspapers I read, and about 3/4 of my family. While I dont care for Dr. Laura, at least she had the nerve to stand up and say this whole thing is wrong, while the others tried to pretend the whole situation with the daughter was just fine with them. You know very well that if this had been Joe Biden's daughter, or if Obama's daughters were older and pregnant, the shit would have hit the fan 24/7 on Fox News and the cons' radio shows. I agree that the children should be left out of it, but the Gov. should be smart enough to know that her actions take their toll on her family in ways it shouldn't, and could have taken that into consideration. Obama had the foresight to say families were off limits. Palin could have said the same thing instead of bringing the reluctant father and putting him up on stage with the rest of the family. She could have said, yep, we messed up big time, but we will deal with this privately, thank you very much. But she didnt, and that is what she is being criticized for.
