Tuesday oddems: it's a consultants' town; funeral processions; ass googie; mike siegel nude; lip service by glenn; weissbach lives; jim clayton kills; glenn beck sucks
~~ Quote of the month: "Every time you see a funeral procession, so goes another AM listener."
~ and speaking of uncomfortable: KIRO staffers reported that while everyone was whooping it up at the celebratory party for Dave Ross's 30 years -- freshly laid-off KBSG staffers were tearfully cleaning out their desks. Tacky.
~ We were disappointed to find that when someone Googled "ass googie" they got to BlatherWatch. Like wise when somebody put "mike siegel nude" in the search box.
~ Things are dreary around the shop at KOMO/KVI. Second quarter revenues for Fisher were
up a little
overall, but radio was down. Lots of quaking, quacking: GM
Jim Clayton could pull the plug on anything, at anytime although the
bitterest decisions are said to be waiting on a consultants' report due
Aug.14th. Media consultants are the toast of radio town right now...
expect format flips and major changes for a bunch of stations after
Labor Day... that's what they're sayin'.
(photo: "the exterminator" Jim Clayton)
~ Welcome back to Peter Weissbach, in for Kirby this week actually 7 years
to the day since KVI canned him. The churlish, jack Canadian whose
objective is to steal "your life energy" and invest it in an
interest-bearing account, is a blast from KVI's glory days. Hard-edged,
contrary, a little brilliant but never beloved, Weissbach was fired way
back when and has been wandering in the fill-in desert ever since.
Ironic: he was the first talk host we ever saw with his own website,
but nowadays he's pretty much invisible on the web.
~ Who's Glenn Beck blowing at CNN? ... He's never had decent numbers since he started two years agoon Headline News. When they hired him, they hoped he'd be competitive with Billo, Joe Scarborough and Tucker Carlson. He outlived Carlson and through consistent bad ratings, yet he survives. We'd love to know how he does on the radio -- we do know his numbers suck on KTTH (m-f, 6-9a) but on teevee he really sucks. Beck trails all the competitors, his live show and repeat both come in 4th out of four -- plus he's the lowest rated show on CNN. We agree with News Corpse, "At this point the humane thing to do would be to pull the plug and put Beck (and innocent TV viewers) out of their misery."

Glenn Beck just signed a new $65 million deal. Somebody in the CNN corporate offices likes Beck very much.

KVI is on life support these days.

sclub: tell me it's not so. Whatever w/I do w/out Kirby and Carleen? They're my 'guiding light' in the darkness.

KVI is pretty bad during prime listening hours during the week but they're the only station that has local programming on the weekend. From Friday at 10 pm till Monday morning, KIRO is unlistenable: babbling Cisco, a financial retread from a sattelite, and the babbling chefs.
No thanks.
Aquiring the M's has undoubtedly pulled their chestnuts out of the fire, for as long as that lasts.

For what it's worth, Gay Gary would take syndicated shows over brokered time any day. KVI weekend programming are just 8 hour blocks of commercials.
But I do agree about Ciscoe, Tom Douglas and the Mutual Fund Store on KIRO. Though I LOOOVVVVVVVE Bob Brinker and - a bit less - Bill Handel.

Where the heck did you find that awesome little white power baby photo? What a great picture. It is very obviously a man child.
Please, parents of that young man do not raise that boy anywhere near Seattle. Do not allow that boy to be feminized in the tradition of the modern Seattle man. Let him become the powerful white man that is his fate. To be a leader of leaders, to be a man's man. His destiny.
Now I am going to quickly post this and get to bed before my wife see's it and kicks my unemployed butt.

OMG! ABC is reporting that Hillary might be considering offering her name up as a candidate in Denver. S-W-E-E-T!!!
We ALL know that's who our next POTUS should be!

We also know that shills like you have attention deficit disorders--stop fuckin' hijacking the thread!
Posted by: Coiler | August 06, 2008 at 06:24 PM
Stuff it coiler...what a apt description...and steaming to boot. Get PHUCKED..should you be so lucky!
Posted by: Duffman | August 06, 2008 at 07:17 PM
Oh...and re-coil, whaaaats up with your man John Edwards?
Posted by: Duffman | August 06, 2008 at 07:19 PM
Ye Duffy' WTF is wrong with you? Now you have Coiler the innernet cop pissed off at you. Now how you gonna sleep tonight?
Besides, this is not the time for white women. This years choice is for people of color with no practical experience at anything 'cept talking pretty and being an expert at being for all sides of any issue determined only by which group of people he's talking to.
(but you are right not to count Clinton out)

Edwards is accused of being a sluuhht. But he is an adult and it is none of our business.
It's not like old Elizabeth is pregnant or really ill or anything like that. That would show a complete lack of class or character. No harm....
huh, what? NO shit? really, she is?
Well, it looks like he is or very well may be a classless, character free slut. Hope it is not true, but its not looking real good for the slease ball.

Wow, this is going to be the third time this month I have invoked the name of Mr. Cranky Pants but I'll do it ... I remember in February Ralph Nader was asked about the Democrats not winning the election and he said something like "if the Democrats can't win this year of all years they should just pack up, close down shop, disband the party and go to Monterey to watch the whales".
I'll hand it to the Republicans, their stormtrooper-like discipline now has a horrible and outfunded candidate (McCain) topping the Democratic candidate in the polls following the most disasterous Republican presidencies of the last hundred years. Now the bitchy also-ran is planning on throwing a Molotov cocktail into her own party's burn ward?
Monterey better start preparing for an influx of tourists in November. This could well be the most unexpected disaster for a political party since the '93 parliamentary elections in Canada.

You are so very right Gary. This is more fun than I had thought possible.
Put some buttah on the pop corn, grab a Diet Pepsi and get ready for the really big shoe.

As of today, August 6, the electoral college vote stands at:
Obama 289 McCain 236 Ties 13
Needed to win, 270
In the other national polls, same old, same old. No offense McSame-ites. 2-5% Nat'l lead. Roughly a 90-97% chance of electoral college victory if election were held today.
In the end, the electoral is the only poll that matters.
Duffman still has a hard-on for bad news about Edwards I see. Bizarre.

As of today, August 6, the electoral college vote stands at:
The electors have already started voting?
Momentum shifts are more telling than August polls.
Music videos are shot at 16 FPS to create a more dreamy look and hide imperfections. With his scant media attention, McCain has been shooting his campaign at 16 FPS. Obama's media orgy is starting to backfire. He's letting his campaign be shot at about 1,000 FPS right now, faster than real life. It's bleeding him. McCain no longer seems as dumb as he looks what with his mid-campaign holidays to South America, etc. The lesson here may be that the cold, calculating science of media phasing trumps youthful exuberance and happy, wild-haired people running through the streets.
A 1:10 ratio of riot police to protesters is an adequate suppression strength in an urban tumult. The riot police make superior use of organization, experience and, most of all, personal indifference to the cause to trump superior numbers.

No, sparky - would just like to know the truth, just like the Democratic Party who want him to clear this issue before convention time or else he may not be allowed to speak. And, personally yes I do not care for the man. After being inundated by requests for $ from practically every member of his family after submitting an E-Mail of Good Wishes to his wife...I was not impressed with him or his campaign style. The 'ol 'Breck man' smacked of Bill Clinton persona.
Posted by: Duffman | August 07, 2008 at 05:47 AM
Sorry GG, I dont care what F stop they use, McCain still looks dumb.
As long as he keeps making painfully unfunny comments like he did the other day about Cindy running for Miss Buffalo Chip, he will always come across as pathetic. McCain chose to go down this road, instead of talking about what his strengths are, so he will have to deal with how silly he looks.

Weissbach sounds at least as interesting as anyone else on KVI - he's a libertarian, maybe curmudgeonly with an edge but also entertaining.
Actually, if the ratings at KVI suffer too much, they should get broadcast rights to Kennedy/Suits - two locals, who have made good out of KFI - LA and delay George Norry for a few hours.
