It's the latest conservative cause and Michael Savage (KTTH m-f, 6-9p) is its spokeshole, and quite the hole he is!
On Wednesday last, he told listeners the brain development disorder known as autism is "a fraud" and "a racket."
"I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot."
Actually, Savage (who's real name is Michael Weiner or "Huffenputz" as he's known around the gated community in Tiburon where he lives) hasn't had his name in the papers lately, and this is just a lazy, hazy summer's day run at trying to stir up the citizens.
As always he wants not to stir them up for this noble stance, but to say something so outrageous that the mainstream press will report it and he'll get more listeners.
It's worked pretty well: Talk Radio Network, which syndicates The Savage Nation, claims that Savage is heard on more than 350 radio stations. the show reaches 8.25 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, and trails only The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show.
Steve Young, writing Friday in the HuffPo introduces his son Ryan who has an 8-year old autistic daughter and writes an eloquent, letter to Savage:
Rebecca can be sweet, funny, happy, sad, angry, silly, frustrating, irritating, gentle, kind or any number of other adjectives you'd use to describe a typical eight year old, though brat is not one that her doctors have used to describe her. That usually only comes from those ignorant of her condition.

Ryan Young's letter provides fresh evidence that Michael Savage is a gigantic tub of scum, and may cause disturbing reflection upon how sick Americans can be that this entertainer is so successful.
