Obama needs hillary more than hillary needs obama

Hillary Clinton is to MSNBC what teenage girl-fights are to Fox News.

They're obsessed and preoccupied with her. They may know better -- the attention Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann give her may be focus-grouped to snag some demo we can't even imagine. Hillary_and_obama1

But we're obviously not that demo: the endless speculation as to why she's still in the race: the ponderous surmising and apprising of her wile and guile is just bad teevee.

You don't know why she's still in the race, boyz? You think she (and Bill) are so self-deluded they don't know she's not going to get the nomination? And haven't known for several months?

What Hillary Clinton is doing is solidifying her impressive constituency and considerable power base in the Democratic party. As she should.

The people she represents -- white working class, Latinos, women -- are absolutely vital to beat the old guy in the Fall, and if Barack Obama can't win their support he (we) will fail utterly.

And Hillary is key to that effort.

After this incredible campaign... and after all the snide, slighting, masogynist, sexist bashing by the pundit class, the netroots, and MSNBC is over, you gotta admit: she's good!

For all the meta-rada about the new voters Barack has brought out, his failure to move the numbers in the established Democratic blocks she's hung onto handily is troubling. And Democrats know it-- at least the ones who don't have an Obama dog on the fire...

(The Republicans, forsaking their usual ogrish, right-wing type candidates, have given those Reagan Democrats McCain, the most someone palatable candidate they had. It gives them somewhere to go that's not ther slithy Romney or the goofy Huckabee. (Hucky Goofabee?) Despite he's a miserable, aged, warmonger who hates America, and may not be able to carry the Republican base, he was their most electable choice).

By staying in the race for every primary, Hillary Clinton, strengthens her position in the Democratic Party, and with the American electorate.

Even though she doesn't have the liberal base of the party, she's definitely a force to contend with.

Barack really needs Hillary to win, and he knows it. But there will be a price. We're not sure what that is yet, the vice presidency? senate majority leader? but we do know that the large groups of important voters who support her will benefit.

(We appreciate that such as Rachel Maddow, and David Gregory; Craig Crawford, Jonathan Alter, and a few other cable news habitues, have stayed analytical and reality-based about Hillary. Olbermann is so in the Obama bag, it's got really boring. We stopped watching the insufferable blabbermouth Chris Matthews and don't turn on Countdown until 25 after when the Hillary bashing is over. We learned long ago that falling in love with politicians is a fool's paradise. We want a Democrat who can win the presidency; so we've always greeted Obamania with skepticism that has nothing to do with the phony bullshit the Republicans have thrown against the proverbial wall about his associations, and loyalty. We have more or less supported Hillary, much to the disdain of some of our less discerning friends, and readers. For several months, we've believed Obama has had the nomination, and will support him gladly).

joanie: yes, Edwards' speech was very good. I'm sorry that's about all I have to say for now, reality is settin-in...this hurts.

'Obama needs hillary more than hillary needs obama'

..greatest UNDERstatement since Gen Custer's 'they might be friendly' statement

Don't give up, duff. Elizabeth is still up for grabs and she's got a lot of influence out here. Maybe not as much as John, but she might just make a difference. I respect her mightily myself.

And I'm thoroughly confused about whether or not Hillary's hurting or helping. But, I sure do agree about Olbermann. I've been turning him off when the Hillary bashing begins which means most of the time because I'm not into the rest of the show much either. I do not watch Hardball but I do sort of enjoy Abrams when I hear him.

I am proud to be one of your less discerning (I hope) friends, Blatherman. Have you ever told us why you supported her, aside from the constituencies "she represents"? Is it her grit, her "inevitable electability," her policy positions? Just askin'. I have tried not to pile on Hillary, even when it's been tempting. You have written about the dreamy eyed Obamaniacs you know in some detail, but less about Hillary's virtues, unless I am pathetically mistaken.

Guarantee her a spot on the Supreme Court..that would use her talents and keep her busy.

you are a prince, howie in seattle; and and I've noted all of the above about her and tried to weigh them equally with the many talents of your candidate. I have a natural skepticism and distrust for the flash and pleasant neural distractions of early love... or it might have something to do with my youthful involvement with The Drugs. It was hard for me to buy the transcendence of politics theory of Barack's successful arc, and of course, that's now largely dissipated. Despite the many reasons why he should win handily, most agree it's going to be a hard, nasty fight. I pray he and we are up to it. I'm here to help.

Luke Burbank said on TBTL that he's working with the management to address the repetitive PSA commericals you hear when you listen to KIRO online. Yay!

But it's been like that for years, why have they allowed this problem to exist for so long up until this point where a host complains about it on the air?

I had to bring an actual radio over to my computer because listening online was absolutely intolerable.

John McCain represents the new Republican Party, one that is moderate, secular, electable, and hears the American people. The Party of a military security of Eisenhower, the humanity of Nelson Rockefeller, and the libertarian instincts of Goldwater can prevail in this dangerous confusing time.

hah-HAH! (ala Chris Matthews)

I love it when one picture can negate an entire argument.

Remember Bart: Who will be the key-note speaker for the RNC Convention? That's right, the worst President ever.

He wanted a legacy - well now he's got one: Poisoning the GOP brand.

To paraphrase the great Gloria Steinem, "Obama needs Hillary like a shark needs a bike."

God, I love this blog!

Sorry mercifurious, I think Carter still holds the title of WPE.

As McCain sounds less and less like Bush every day, Obama sounds more like Carter every time he opens his mouth.

Sorry mercifurious, I think Carter still holds the title of WPE.

Sure hope you have some data to back that up, Bri. That is, aside from your ass-pulled opine nugget(grain of salt alert)

Lookie here Bri: Carter doesn't even make the list! W beats out Tricky Dick during watergate!

McPain sounds less and less like McBush? How so?

McCain can run, but he can't hid. In the end, there's the hug, and the RNC will have their keynote speaker.

OK, I’ll bite! Oculus Bleu and I did attend this event. I know, I know – what are two jackbooted stormtroopers wearing pink armor doing attending a Nader event? After all Nader is an anti-gay liberal (is he a liberal?)! Granted, we will probably be voting for … who knows … (maybe Bob Barr?), but after hearing RN (that’s Ralph Nader, not Rick Neuheisel) speak, I’m convinced he could be a player in this election. A few general observations from the event:

1 – During the Q&A someone asked Nader about his diminished vote total between ’00 and ’04 and if it will keep dropping in ’08. He said that, in ’04, their campaign funds were totally drained defending against lawsuits and, because of legal action, they only made it onto 38 ballots. He then said that, since disposing of the last of these suits, they’ve filed a class action lawsuit against the Democratic Party and – with this delaying action – feel they should be able to get on and stay on close to 50 ballots with a non-drained treasury.

2 – He noted that recent polling data has him at 8% in Michigan and between 5% to 14% nationally. Could the growing Democratic schism and defection of Clintonistas push voters into the Nader camp? A quote from the state Nader schill in today’s PI overtly says they’d be thrilled to get “as much as” 5% of the vote nationally … IOW not enough to win 1 elector in Maine but enough to run an effective campaign of confusion and chaos, like Rush’s effort but somewhat more tentacled and insidious. I really believe the hard-core Nader cadre are not idealistic idiots (perhaps the rank and file). I’m pretty sure there’s something else going on, just not sure what.

3 – The event concluded with an evangelical fervor as a marvelous Nader pitchman told a story that literally brought a tear to my eye at which point the doors were sealed and Nader staff combed the crowd for money in a very heavy-handed sale … a great many people volunteered to donate the “FEC max” ($2300) in exchange for a small copy of Nader’s biography and the cash was free-flowing from everyone.

4 – Nader said he’d just addressed a company-wide meeting of Google employees in Mt. View two days before and was discussing, with Google executives, about a Google-sponsored presidential debate. As it was presented, this was an idea floated by Google and offered to Nader for his blessing.

5 – The crowd, though only about 500 (which, to be fair, appeared to be capacity for the room), was absolutely gaga for Nader. Complete pandemonium erupted as his conservatively suited entourage swept into the room with the Amazonian Nader in the lead (attired in the affectation of his poorly ironed suit that must be intentionally crumpled up before each appearance as nothing can be that wrinkled). An extended standing ovation, hootin’ & hollerin’, cries of adoration, etc. Only absent was the chanting of “Peron, Peron, Peron” …

6 - There were several recognizable faces in the crowd. Hardly a "who's who" of Seattle, but a few recognizables. I'll leave it at that.

If anyone else attended, I’d be curious to hear your first-person take.

oops, wrong thread - disregard my last

Good stuff GG.
Hey it looks like the California State Supremes have made history regarding marriage.

It just may wake up the evangelical crowd.

1 picture negate the entire argument?

2 Pictures are better, how about this one?:

Obama’s Allis
