Friday oddems: no genius awards for ron & don; peggy nooner & kinky friedman; david postman rings once; analysis for what it's worth; water features on the am dial; hard-working white people; will kvi be sold to salem?

Ron_don_lookalikes~~  OMG!! WTF?? LOL!! We heard it. "Why wouldn't I be" Don referred to his eponymous Ron & Don Show as "award-winning." The award-winning Ron & Don Show, he said. We checked the Soundies. We checked the Peabodys. We checked the MacArthur Genius Awards -- no luck. Could someone help?

(photo: Don & Ron, no geniuses, reportedly)

~~ take the analysis for what it's worth, but: Bill O'Reilly's political analysis team: Texas Jewboy Kinky Friedman, and Official Fox Negro, and Fake Liberal, Juan Williams is getting repeat Factor appearances,Images3 Blathersuggestion: Peggy Noonan and Merle Haggard could add some depth to this team. It's said that Merle is the only famous conservative male over 60 left in America that Peggy hasn't slept with... wonder why? (Photo right: Kinky Friedman)

~~ Slouching towards listenability: We're really happy to hear bloggers such as David Goldstein, and corporate news blogger David Postman doing media criticism in a repeat appearance on The Conversation with Ross Reynolds (KUOW m-f, 1-2p) Wednesday. (It was interesting to hear Goldy holding forth authoritatively on cable news when everyone knows he's too cheap to pay the money for cable) Producer David Hyde is pushing the show ever so slowly past mere relevance into actual listenability. To not scare off the regulars, or iImages2nvite criticism they're becoming too listenable for public radio, Hyde's been inviting John Gastil, the brightly didactic UW communications professor to lend the requisite stenorous and authoritative voice. It was fun to hear an actual disagreement on KUOW, as Postman seemed to attack one of Goldy's points. In the end, it turned out it was no attack at all, he'd only countered Goldy, so the shot of excitement that went up our collective leg was probably imaginary.

~~ will KVI be sold to Salem so they can be the conservative talk leader in Seattle it would be if it weren't for their KKOL's transmitter problems? We asked our most reliable BlatherWatch source who intimated (in that inscrutable way he has) "outlook not so good." But we've been instructed to ask again later.
Thescream316_3
~~ "Tell 'em Dori sent ya!" A reader, Damien de Burien writes: "I like Dori, me and my wife think you [Blatherwatch] are much too hard on him. But my complaint is that all I hear all day long is him selling stuff. I grow so weary of him pitching on everything from dog food to hot tubs. My wife sometimes makes me it turn off sometimes just to get a break from him. Why does he do it? Does he make a lot of money from doing all these endorsements?  Does he have a small penis?" (We admit, we added that last question).

~~ This from the RadioInfo Boards about Dave Ross (KIRO m-f, 9a-12p): "A few months back I believe the topic was using illegal immigrants for labor when he mentioned that he had spent the weekend installing a "water feature" at his Mercer Island home. Anyone using the term "water feature" on a talk show needs to be immediately bounced."

Images ~~ Oldies are moldies? Word is that after four straight books of down numbers, that KBSG will change format soon. Could it be changed to an FM news/sports talk format as Bonneville is so wont to do in other markets? The Mariners would fit in well, and maybe even Ron & Don might make sense in such an arrangement.

Comments

I have long maintained that Dori is an ass, but I must shrink back from the assertion that his penis is small. I have no data on that issue.

Here we go...focused on Dori Monson yet again! He couldn't buy it any better...guess when you're #1 you da man.

...it's working, Dori

Duff
I think this is the best description of what happened to Hillary.
Charles Krauthammer of National Review. For the lefties, it is good to get another point of view. Dip your intellectual toe in the water and give it a read.

NRO

Warning to Joanie: Don't read it as your head will explode when your brain neurons attempt to fire up. Much too powerful.

...and the pant suits didn't help -lol. Thank you Puts; while I'm not yet conceding her defeat (who knows what she may still have up her sleeve) - that was as good a rationale as I've read.
[Your last post on Oper Chaos, re-'oil situation' was spot on!] Understanding of Economics 101 doesn't seem to be joanie's forte? ha

Your source told me "My sources say no." It's a very negative source. Told me I wasn't breathing, either. Did say blatherWatch maybe a poor source on KVI.

By the way, freaky baby picture.

brain neurons

Gee, now where have I heard that before? Another original from putsie, now known as the great linker.

And on to something more interesting . . . KBSG changed it's playlist and I quit listening. It's earlier playlist needed to be expanded but played a different brand of listenable oldies. Now it sounds like every other oldies station.

KVI? Who cares.

Ron and Don have been saying "award winning" for many, many months, if not for over a year. Blathering Michael, the guy who listens to all the local talk radio shows so we don't have to is just now noticing that?

Hey Duff
Hey how long would Joanie last in the Shark infested deep intellectual waters of Sound Politics.
I know you swim over there and are willing to disagree. Me thinks she would need a life preserver.
Much better Joanie stays here in the Liberal wading pool.

How come I never hear people bashing Dave Ross for all the commercials he does? It seems like he does just as many as Dori.

Yeah Puts, as you can well imagine I DO take a beating over there [especially in my support of our current Governor -v- Sir Dino] - but I enjoy it. Methinks ms joanie hussein obama would not fare well at all; there are some 'heavy-hitters' there and they do their homework big time. I chalk it up to...learning...always learning...Ha

re: Dave Ross?
It's his dulcet tone...and (of course) his liberal bent

They DID NOT like my limerick:

There once was a guy named Rossi
Who, although blessed with a sizeable posse
Couldn't harness the votes
Even with E. Washington goats
To an election make - glossy

Believe, go with your gut, etc etc.

But at some point, it's time to face reality:

New York Times: We endorsed her, but now it's time to do what's best for the party

Time to put party unity above ego. We don't need another W sequel & 4 more wars.

I defer to Tommy008!

1. Ross does Dux bed, a Toyota shop, some green extermination system (yes, yes, I know it's not accurate, but then, you're listening too closely to commercials), while Dori (hey, that's a girl's name!)does Caitlin Capital and that would make it about equal (which of the troika--Monson, Schwartz, and Ventrella--is this interminable series a BUY-OUT for--I'm guessing Ventrella, as they started immediately after KIRO let him go)to Ross' endorsements. Then, Dori does every other commercial except the Haight Carpet commercials, but only because his voice can't get that low singing.
2. Everything is award-winning on the Ron and Don Show. It's a bit of satire (on R & D?? NO!) for the plethora of news-awards KIRO constantly crows about. I guess the question to ask is "Why wouldn't they be?" but I have an appointment in a few hours and I don't want to miss it typing this.
3. I was leaning towards supporting Rossi over the current Guv's policies ("You'll take my poker game from my COLD, DEAD HANDS!!"), but after reading that the slumming Mr. Rossi wants to replace the AWV with a tunnel, I just said "Here we go AGAIN!" and abandoned the idea of voting for him...and living in Seattle anymore (I currently live in Island County to get away from the mess our Mayor is making of things).
4. For Duff-
There once was man from Japan
Whose limericks just wouldn't scan
When told this was so
The Man said "I know,
but I try to get as many words into the last line as I possibly can."
5. KBSG's ratings are declining?
I'm thinking Frank Shiers.
6. Most of Dori's organs are smallish--brain, heart. Perhaps we should sterilize him to stop him from procreating again. I know, I'm talking about him again, but it's GOOD talk! Beats listening to him.
-30-

Yet another reason for me to not like The Chappaquiddick Kid.

Dori pimps Jags and Consumer Reports has them number 3 on the list of least likely cars to reach two hundred thousand miles. EVERYBODY that is into 4x4s knows that Land Rovers have terrible reliability, therefore Dori flogs them on his show. If his judgement is so poor on that front I must count anything he says as suspect. Then again Dori likely knows nothing of cars but where to put the key.

I just hope it's true and not just a rumor, that Sen Obama has quit smoking.

R&D -- After one of the many numerous snow, wind or other inclement weather emergencies about a year ago, KIRO got the smallish, local version of an otherwise prestigious award for interrupting the Ron & Don Show with one of their "All News is Pearl Harbor" alert tones and Don said that they can now call themselves "award winning" or some such thing since it was their show interrupted.

Other -- Someone else brought this up - what is seriously up with KIROs "Election HQ" crap? They had that survey and one question was "Are we providing enough presidential election coverage?" and shortly after that they had a lamely produced promo announcing they are Election HQ. I guess it was cheaper to just increase the marketing of their election coverage than increase the coverage itself. It's ridiculous. We had major primaries in IN and NC last week and on KIRO all we have is Luke and Sean tickling and dry humping each other to the accompaniment of producer Jenn's thunderous, baritone laugh.

Dori -- KIRO almost lost me with (above) except Dori just issued a call for trannies to call-in to his show which reeled me back in. HAAAAAAAAAY!!! I'M LUVIN' IT!

Oh wait, I take that back. He was talking about the trans-fat ban.

Haha...funny stuff there GG, as usual. Your a 'pick-up' [no play on words intended] for morale & energy for this time of the afternoon.
I swear you need to be on TBTL...just practice using the word 'like' more.

I swear you need to be on TBTL...

What did I ever do to piss you off?!

Peggy Noonan is the sexiest 60 year old woman in America.

"and Official Fox Negro, and Fake Liberal, Juan Williams is getting repeat Factor appearances"

How is Juan Williams a fake liberal ? Just because he didn't support Obama ? Seems like he supports Clinton and is definitely anti-Bush. Can you support that with facts ? The Fox negro thing sounds racist because he appeared back to back with loofah ? What about Geraldo Rivera - he has also appeared numerous times on the Factor - is he a fake liberal also ? (I think not..)

Get ready for exhausting overuse of that word in the upcoming campaign.. Any time someone in the McCain camp refers to Michelle Obama, Rev. Wright or his replacement pastor, the Obama campaign will fire back "racist". That term is going the way of crying wolf too many times. An appropriate response from the opposition, be it McCain or Clinton would be to fire back - You played the race card - to yell racist when that was not the intent of the comment is the pot calling the kettle black. (new, yet appropriate topic)
