The myth of Saint Barack is unraveling and Rush Limbaugh is taking the credit.
He and Laura Ingraham (KKOL m-f, 6-9a) are urging listeners to switch party affiliations and vote for Hillary Clinton to keep Democrats guessing all the way to the convention.who will be their candidate.
Limbaugh (KTTH m-f, 9a-12p) calls it Operation Chaos, and it's helping elect John McCain, a flawed candidate whose own Party dislikes him and ought to be polling in single digits.
While Big Pants' "campaign" is mostly hot air -- the kind that's made him the highest-rated radio talker in the history of the world. In Pennsylvania, where the crucial April 22 primary is closed to independents and Republicans, there are reports that at least some Republicans are switching their party registration by the March 24 deadline.
But Democrats are doing the best job of making sure John McCain wins in November.
While liberal pundits lead a chorus of praise for Obama's wonderful,
groundbreaking, out loud white paper on race -- the average schmuck
probably never heard it all at the same time.
What they've heard are snips of the speech with scornful commentary by such as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Medved, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. Fox News has kept the Pastor Wright mishegoss front and center in their coverage and made it the filter through which all campaign news is filtered. The fiery sermons are looped over and over.
Of course, most liberals we know don't pay any attention to right-wing media. They're oblivious to one of the most important ways the pulse of America should be taken.
And there's no sign yet that the speech had any effect whatsoever on the spiraling Obama numbers.
Tracking polls show the precious, vital but volatile and fickle independents are having second thoughts -- in big numbers. Clinton's numbers have swung upwards by 9 points in week.
(These polls are notoriously unreliable at this stage of the race, but
Obamers have been pointing to them for months as measures of his great
popularity and ability to reach across all political boundaries).
Of a sudden those independents who loved Obama and considered him "just black enough," are thinking: maybe he's a little too black like the scary preacher turns out he's been hanging out with all these years.
We're worried about Obama's base supoort. Is he Howard Dean 2004 except with the black vote?
Obama has energized African-Americans in a way no one ever has. Stands to reason, of course: he's kick-started participation from people in the black community who have never seen a viable black presidential candidate or felt they had much of a stake in American elections.
That said, many African-Americans who have sat out other elections feeling disenfranchised are by definition politically unseasoned and a little naive. In a community where the idea of being disrespected is taken very personally, they may not understand that the shit-flinging is equal opportunity here in political America.
They may be already thinking this is just business as usual and feeling dissed by the gloves-on campaign jabs by Hillary Clinton. We doubt they'd turn out in November if Hillary beat Obama -- Obama's negative and self-righteous campaign has seen to that.
With the other large segment of Obama support -- young voters who have a perfect record of being reliably unreliable, the campaign's base looks troublingly effervescent.
Big Pants' audience aren't all right-wing hatemongers, mind you. There's a shitload of those blessed, sought-after independents listening too. His huge audience is huger than that's apparent looking at his numbers. Significant, too, are his many imitators, and clones across the country who do what he does, grokking correctly that his broadcasting instincts are correct. and they can ride his rhetorical coattails to ratings success.
(This is nothing new, of course, the AM talk radio industry has been built on this strategy).
That's why the stirring bloviations of Pastor Wright aren't going away. That's why Obama's numbers are volatile -- independents are scared -- and, having taken a chance by considering him in the first place, are going, if not due south, at least sidling southwest.
Meanwhile, Obama told CNN's Anderson Cooper that the controversy's "shaken me up a little bit and gotten me back into remembering that the odds of me getting elected have always been lower than some of the other conventional candidates."
No shit. There'll never be "new politics" any more than there'll will be "new human beings."
This is about the transferring of power of the most powerful country in the modern world, here. Not becoming America's Idol or chairman of a sociology department.
The Republicans play it that way, the Democrats don't. The Republicans win with bad candidates, the Democrats lose with good ones.
Pastor Wright will be out of the news eventually. But these videos of him ranting like a Black Panther are a direct link to the racial politics Barack's been trying to stay above. He's not put it away, and cannot. It's the crack in the plaster icon the R's have been praying for. All future attacks will emanate from it.
Race anger will be the subtext of the Republican campaign against Obama forever more.
It had to happen, but what's the most maddening and troublesome is that the amoral, craven Republicans have hijacked the highroad on race.
Lord have mercy, god damnit...

And as we have seen in the other thread, we know where you get and how you form your opinions Sparky.

Nevets
Here is something. We live in a Dem controlled State. King County is as blue as you can get. No evil Republicans to screw things up.
Yet, we have a transportation mess to include a Viaduct and 520 bridge that has yet to be resolved. Very little leadership on the issue of transportation. Instead we get these mega transportation packages that attempt to satisfy so many special interests that they get voted down due to the sheer weight of the projects that would be started but not finished. Gary Locke/Christine Gregoire, can you name any material transportation projects completed by either one?
Moreover, we have seen the Dems in action -or inaction- with the Sonics. Things will not bode well for Christine Gregoire come the next election.
Nevets, this will make you laugh. Joanie is convinced that one day Christine Gregoire will be President. YIKES!

Don't forget the Air Force tanker deal where they were caught napping also Puts.
Sorry I don't live on that side of the sound Puts and Nichols can become king of his own country of Seattle if he wants. But I heard Dori talking about the SLUT today having another accident. Would that count. I am glad MCDonald finally is out of WSDOT, his foot was getting to big for me. But besides maybe the toll bridge, I can't think of anything.
As for Gregoire becoming President. I've stated here before that she has a good chance in 2012 if she can beat Rossi this time and McCain wins the November election. She would be a front runner and if she gets the Viaduct and 520 done with little taxation she could become a serious contender.
Posted by: nevets | April 18, 2008 at 08:12 PM
Nothing more fun that reading the mindless rantings of The Angry Left, a/k/a the self-appointed intelligensia (like this "joanie hussein for Obama" fool).
Posted by: Leroy | April 24, 2008 at 10:33 AM
I think I could make a few bucks if I started a blog for "White Guys Who Hate Obama"..Leroy, you wanna be my charter member #1?
Posted by: sparky | April 24, 2008 at 11:36 AM
You really wanna make some cash, try bleeding these Obama kooks dry, which shouldn't be that hard. Have you ever watched these mindless robots on TV at his rallys? I will admit I enjoy watching him speak on TV, not because of what he's saying because he's not saying anything at all worthy of consideration, but rather to observe his followers reactions. It's all emotionalism, no substance whatsoever. They just like the sound of his voice and that he can give a speech that sounds pretty on the surface. He could get up there and say "Jeremiah Wright is G-d!!" and his little minions would be smiling big and cheering right behind him "Jeremiah Wright is G-d!! Jeremiah Wright is G-d!!" They don't care about the words he's saying, it's just him saying it, and that's all that matters.
So if it's cash you need, sparky, I highly recommend those lemmings.
Posted by: Talon | April 25, 2008 at 05:58 AM
But he's not saying Jeremiah Wright is god, is he?
You put words in his mouth to make your case because the words he says are words you don't want to hear.
Are you all so afraid he'll be our next President? You are all so sad. The day of the racist warmongers is coming to an end.
Posted by: joanie hussein for obama | April 25, 2008 at 07:48 AM
Joanie, get out of the "racist" lingo. I could care less what color he is, I'm just talking about what he is to followers like you. It doesn't matter what he says, you'll lap it up. He's a Cult of Personality candidate which appeals to many liberals.
It doesn't matter who the next prez is, whether it be Obama or Clinton or McCain, they're all liberals and they all stink. The next 4 years are going to be lousy and it's going to be every man for himself. Preparing myself and my finances to hunker down and to hide income from the taxman is my only concern. And when it comes to doing that, the ends justify the means.

Corruption of the Democratic Primary process is now en vogue, as proven by Conservatives, and encouraged by Rush Limbaugh, who believe that a protracted Democratic Primary season will ultimately serve Republicans well. The reasoning offered to support this strategy, as we have been given, is that a “Bloodied Up” Obama & Clinton will be the result of revealed faults and short-comings.
Operation Chaos participants have proudly claimed, as accounted on Talk Radio and Internet Blogs, have taken to registering as Democrats in established Open Primaries (state provisions that empower the electorate to vote without respect of party in the candidate election process - primaries) and supporting Sen Clinton with the hope that neither Sen Clinton nor Sen Obama will emerge as the victor until the Democratic National Convention in August. The anticipated, and hopeful, result of this effort is that both Democratic Candidates will sufficiently flog the other and subsequently prove themselves unelectable.
Conservatives, as we have been told, are guided by a concept of morality and values that extend throughout all endeavors, political aspirations, social and personal responsibility. Democrats & Liberals, as we have been told, are guided purely by a desire for power, at the expense of morality & values. The former, as it appears, no longer applies. The justification for Operation Chaos, as we have been able to determine, has been the same Moral Relativism despised by Conservatives, that being… “They do it too.”…Accepted.
That said, Democrats are left with but a few options, as we have been able to determine. Any argument or dialog that denounces the strategy of Operation Chaos will likely result in Democrats being further defined as “Weak” and “Whining”, an option obviously explored far too often. Democrats have spoken of Operation Chaos in low tones, on Talk Radio and Internet Blogs, denouncing its effect, rather real or perceived. What matters most is not its effectiveness, as touted by Conservatives, but how to leverage the net result, Media coverage.
In their quest to maintain a stage for the Democratic Presidential candidates to “bloody” the other, Conservatives have given the Media a greater call to explore the nuances of the Democratic campaign, thus, broader coverage. Democrats can realistically benefit from Operation Chaos by continuing a soft-ball approach to differentiation during the next several weeks, conduct themselves civilly, and shape the dialog, as Sen McCain takes a back seat….. Operation Chaos II
Operation Chaos II may be the Saving Grace that both Sen Clinton & Obama need to further articulate their positions on issues that have been tracked as being the most important to all Americans. Consider it Political Crisis Management, Operation Chaos II may very well be the best approach to campaigning for Democrats nationally.

So, are you suggesting that Clinton lob softballs, or the press? No way is Clinton going to go soft. It was pre-ordained that she is to be the next POTUS. That clown from Illinois is standing between her and her office.
Posted by: chucks | April 26, 2008 at 03:29 PM
and Chucks, we both know that if she gets office as Eleanor Clift writes in her article i linked, payback will be a bitch.
what she'll do to the left that went after her won't be pretty. as you know, if you go against the queen you better kill her. if you wound her, she'll eat your young.
so grab some popcorn, a pale ale, and enjoy the show there all you members of the 'all hail chucks' crew aka 'dear leader.'
and yes, 'what i learned this week,' it is clear that rush limbaugh and his minions have played the dem party moist.
it has to hurt that howard dean has been outsmarted -again- and put the party in a horrible box.
a strong dem party chairman would have done better. he misplayed florida -should have done what the repubs did and counted half the delegates forcing all candidates to still campaign down there but still enforcing some party discipline for moving up the date is just one example of his mismanagement.
and the far left, by pushing lieberman in 06 was another miscue. he is the scoop jackson of this century. yet, there is no room for him in this party.
can anyone say, senator ned lamont? not with a straight face.
fealty to the far left has cost the dem party. will it cost them the whitehouse? stay tuned.

I wouldn't worry sparky, these freepers can't explain the 3 Trillion dollars the failed Iraq invasion has bankrupt the economy so far. They need their whipping boys.

Meh..Im not worried about trolls who try to impersonate me or my family..invariably they screw up something, and it makes me laugh.
Meanwhile, whilst the spin goes on about Obama and his pastor,( he just held a news conference totally denouncing Wright) his naked coat lapel, etc etc etc.. more american soldiers were killed yesterday, and yesterday a report came out that home foreclosures are up %112 over last year, home prices ( if you can even find a buyer) dropped %12.7. Oh yes, gas is now $3.68 down the street; it was $3.41 last Wednesday.

Let's all hang out and be losers together and talk about economics, the war on terror, and any number of other topics of which we don't have the beginning of a clue.

Good stuff Nevets.
Duffman must be loving it.
I love the fact that, according to Democrat Stratigest Lawrence O'Donnell, it was a Clinton supporter Barbara Reynolds that made sure Rev Wright agreed to go to the National Press Club date.
The Clintons play hardball. Speaking of hardball, wonder if Chrissy Matthews is ready for the kneecaping he'll be facing if Hillary gets elected. She won't forget or forgive.

Why does the news media take Rush Limbaugh so seriously?
John McCain had it right when he called Limbaugh a Bozo and then apologized to Bozo for making the comparison.
Listen to one of Limbaugh's show for its full three hours and you'll see what McCain was talking about--the staged phone calls, prepared scripts, tortured statistics, non-sequiturs, twisted logic, half-baked ideas, gasping change of direction in mid thought, out-of- context sound bytes, wrong predictions, baseless information, false piety, relentless blustering, mockery and sniggering.
Also consider his qualifications--a first-semester college drop-out, a stadium beer vendor, a draft dodger (claimed he had an incapacitating boil on his anus), a pill addict.
Rush Limbaugh ratings may be high. After all, he's a good entertainer, certainly a lot better than Bozo. But no listener of normal intelligence can take him seriously. How the news media continues to give so much weight to his moronic pronouncement is beyond comprehension.
No, Limbaugh had no influence at all on the Indiana primary. Hillary was predicted to win the state on her accord, and by a much wider margin. And if El Rusho’s “Operation Chaos” was as effective as he claims, why did Obama blow away the Clintons in North Carolina?
Come on, news media journalists, pundits, commentators, et. al. You can’t be that stupid.

I guess the commenter has forgotten about Hubert Humphrey. I think he would have been a far better President than Nixon and we certainly wouldn't have had Watergate which almost tore apart the country.
I knew Humphrey and Eugene McCarthy. Had respect for both of them. And they had a hell of a lot more integrity than a lot of the losers we get to vote for today.
