The Dave Ross Show (KIRO m-f, 91-12p) will broadcast from Des Moines on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 3 & 4). The involved citizens of that state will caucus Thurs. evening to choose, of course, their parties presidential candidates in the all-important and arcane rituals that are the first votes cast for any one of these weasels.
Ron Reagan will fill-in for Dave Wednesday.
Dave and producer Libby Denkmann will then travel on to Manchester, NH for to bring the show to the New Hampshire primary. They'll broadcast live on Monday and Tuesday, and do a wrap-up on Wednesday. (Jan. 7th, 8th, & 9th)
Ross's live broadcasts from the early primaries have become seattle radio traditions with Dave scoring interviews of the candidates, their spouses, national pundits, political toadies, fellow journalists, and other scurrilous hacks.

Glad to have Dave back and Ron back for a day. I think Carl Jeffers is a smart man but I wish he'd learn to shut up once in a while.
I've often said pejoratively that some people like to hear themselves talk when they talk too much; but, in Carl's case, I think it is really true.
I heard you Stephen, Seattle Jew, giving Carl a few pieces of your intelligence. You sounded smart and good. Also, you have a young voice Jew. I would even say you have a "radio" voice. :)
Less than a week and school's back in session. "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow..."

Carl talks too much and too fast. He can turn a 3 hour show into 6 hours, and all with one loooong sentence.
Posted by: holodeck | January 02, 2008 at 03:47 PM
And he too oft repeats his numerous mantras about how equal opportunity, civil, fair and balanced, polite, patient... he is.
By the time he's done tell everybody how great he is, there's no time left for calls.
Posted by: joanie | January 02, 2008 at 08:29 PM
That's part of his schtick. Quick tip: stop telling me how fair and balanced you are Carl. Let me listen to the caller make his point. Engage the caller.
It gets so boring hearing someone proclaim how good they are.
But I do love his choice of music.
Posted by: PugetSound | January 02, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Carl Jeffers - I can stand listening to him for onlty 5 minutes at a time. His continuous blather is as nerve wracking as Styble. He may be ubiquitous in coverage but it translates to the antithesis of concise.
Posted by: KS | January 02, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Carl Jeffers was getting snappy with callers. He didn't sound like he was having fun, so it wasn't fun to listen to.
Speaking on snapping at callers and being talkative, he ended a call with (paraphrasing) "you made the point with several sentances and I made it in one but that's why I'm on the radio."
His delivery is disjointed, jarring and over amped but that's just his personality. They try to explain away that idiosyncracy by saying he's "on fire." It's great for a few minutes on a friday but for three hours THAT'S A GODDAM INFERNO!
On the bright side he makes boring subjects sound more exciting than they realy are.

Andrew, this is your best post ever! I'm impressed! Truly, I am.
I heard that comment about being on the radio, too. I couldn't believe he actually said that. And then he starts the next hour with the same "I am perfect" monologue.
Over-amped! I like it. Thanks for the laugh.

Whoop-Dee-Doo. KIRO sends Dave 'boring as tapioca pudding' Ross to cover the Iowa caucus. Instead, I wish somebody would caulk his ass.

We know, a-boob, you're missing the excitement of perverted sex on the right. See how addictive porn can be?
Everything seems bland in comparison.
Posted by: joanie | January 03, 2008 at 01:24 AM
Any one who's commenting on it at 01:24 in the a.m., instead of participating in it is 'lame' to say the least.
Posted by: andrews | January 03, 2008 at 05:35 AM
You think 5:35 AM is much better that 1:24 AM? Laugh.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | January 03, 2008 at 09:09 AM
I'm 'usually' done by then - if you're not I commend you and give my condolences to your mate.
Posted by: andrews | January 03, 2008 at 09:19 AM
Carl, how many more times are you goign to play that bigband tune and then repeat that no matter how bad the world is, how big are troubles are, blah blah , when we can hear a piece of music like that then all is right with the world or some such approximate banal crap as that. Arrrrggghhhhhh!!!!!! Enough with the Groundhog's Day elements of your show. Repetition is not a virtue.
Posted by: Tommy008 | January 03, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Jeffers might not be as easy on the ears as others, but at least he has the occational novel insight. You can listen to hour upon hour of most hosts and never anything new. Everything is a talking point recycled from other shows.
Jeffers is thoughtful and one of those guys who can almost break out of partisan lockstep, something that is almost impossible to do in our hyper-partisan times. I like his tagline of 'you be the change you want to see in the world.'
Anyway, if you want truly irritating locution, Goldy is 10 times worse than Jeffers.

It seems that white Seattle women, looking for a "non-threatening" male voice, and gay males, are determining the high ratings of these three "sissy-voiced" fellows- Dave Ross, Dori Monson and Cisco Morris. Sorry, Dave- a deep voice doesn't mean you sound macho or even manly. Of the three, Cisco is the most macho by far, although Dori, I'm sure sure thinks he sounds like a little stud.
Posted by: Tommy008 | January 03, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I hate the way Cisco talks and his personality in general but I could see him demonstrating how you clean out an dear in north Minnesota. I can't say the same for Dori, he sounds like he belongs on the cooking channel making pretty cookies. Dave Ross has a great radio voice, it's like the piano of voiceboxes. Goldy could be listenable if he had a voice coach. It's not that his voice is high, it's the nasal droning that ruins him.
Posted by: AuthenticAndrew | January 03, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Tommy you think Cisco is macho???????? Holy shit.
Posted by: sparky | January 03, 2008 at 12:01 PM
Dave Ross's interview with Obama's campaign chairperson was interesting. They (& the way they are reading the polls) seem almost 'sure' that he (Obama) will win Iowa 'going away'?
Posted by: andrews | January 03, 2008 at 12:16 PM
andrews, you lack imagination, dear. Oh, so sorry for your partner. There are twenty-four hours in a day...
Tommy, truly I don't listen to the radio for excitement. I don't need to listen to the radio for excitement. Bland objectivity and competent analysis is really enough for me. You sound as if you and your radio are very, very good friends.
what's up: Carl's got more taglines than skid row's got drunks. Maybe a tad too many? But, as I recall, you're sort of a talking-points guy after all. You prefer the same meme over and over and over...
Goldy intentionally uses his voice in a shrill way and it is irritating. He's got a great opportunity and a really interesting political style except for that delivery. Toning it down wouldn't hurt and might draw a few more listeners.
But, that's just me.
Posted by: joanie | January 03, 2008 at 12:41 PM
BTW: AuthenticAndrew is the consummate oxymoron. [I should know, I'm his illegimate sister]
Posted by: andrews | January 03, 2008 at 01:10 PM
Joanie, I'm an atheist, gun-toting, libertarian-leaning, Iraq-war supporting, blue-collar working, Thucydides-reading Republican.
Yep, a real mind-numbed robot, talking points guy, who reads the daily faxes from Rove and Halliburton, and just says 'sir: yes sir!'
Posted by: wutitiz | January 03, 2008 at 05:58 PM
You should add "pretender" to that list.
Posted by: joanie | January 03, 2008 at 06:17 PM
Actually, that does describe a war-obsessed rightwinger just fine. I agree, most wouldn't care to spend their extra time considering the peloponnesian war...but, everything else fits just fine.
So, Paul is a "possible" for you?
If you would put down the Thucydides and return to the current century, you might find that civilization in the west has advanced considerably.
Posted by: joanie | January 03, 2008 at 06:25 PM
I would like to vote for Paul as domestic-policy president, and one of the others as foreign-policy. I plan to vote for Fred if he's viable, maybe Paul if not.
Joanie, it appears to me that a 'talking points' guy is anyone who disagrees w/ you and your AA gurus, while an independent thinker would be someone who agrees.
Exactly bass-ackwards, as my dad used to say.
Posted by: wutitiz | January 03, 2008 at 08:16 PM
Dave Ross looks like Charles Manson in that photo you have posted on this thread.
Posted by: Squeaky Fromm | January 04, 2008 at 02:06 PM
Have you ever sat down and listened to Thompson? Even Republicans have given up on him . . . he's adds nothing to the conversation and truly seems to know nothing about foreign policy.
Sure you're not a victim of wishful thinking? Wishing somebody on your side knew something about something?
Posted by: joanie | January 04, 2008 at 09:05 PM
Joanie, have you ever sat down and read your own posts? Mostly they are name-calling (e.g. "pretender") and aspersion-casting (nobody on the R side knows anything about anything). What does that add to the conversation? Don't you have any facts and logic to offer?
Posted by: wutitiz | January 05, 2008 at 08:33 AM
Apparently you haven't sat down and listened to Thompson. (LOL!)
So, it is easier to attack personally. Perhaps you should take your own advice.
Posted by: joanie | January 05, 2008 at 11:48 AM
sure carl jeffers is verbose, however he is easy to listen to and his political knowledge is broad. I always gain an insight from his show that i didnt have before. Goldy's shrill ultra liberal delivery is really the radio embarrassment of the pacific northwest.
Posted by: katzjamr | January 05, 2008 at 04:46 PM
carl jeffers and goldy are both unique in their own right, and both obviously have a place on talk radio...else they wouldn't be there. Simple as that!
Posted by: OBL | January 05, 2008 at 04:50 PM
I think Dave is getting a little full of himself these days and is starting to take on a condesencing tone.
Carl Jeffers breathless, mile-a-minute delivery can be irritating but he is by far the most intelligent of the chair-warmers at KIRO and I'll listen to his insights any day of the week. His one big failing is very common among the talk-jockeys: he can never admit he made a mistake or was wrong in his political prognostications.
I really love Goldy, especially when he gets excited and starts ranting loudly.

i visited freerepublic.com yesterday...as a whole, they hate Huckabee, don't trust Romney, strongly dislike John McCain for his views on the borders, and they LOVE Fred "Ahm Tired" Thompson. Made me laugh.
In their eyes, he has the most EXPERIENCE and is the most HONEST.
Guess they didnt hear about his trick of renting a Grampa Joe pickup truck on the outskirts of towns, drving up in his jeans and workshirt, then returning the truck and getting into his BMW to go home.
Ah well.
Posted by: sparky | January 05, 2008 at 07:45 PM
Sparky, don't you know that Thompson is the "sleeper" of the bunch? :)
I think McCain and Huckabee are threats.
I feel sorry for Hillary. I think she is authentic and thinks she'd be good for this country. I'd like her to be the first woman Pres. But I hate that Wall Street connection.

Dave Ross gives me a suspicious feeling for some reason, maybe the apologetic nature he has for the Bush Admn. and the so called " common sense" tag , blah blah. he pushes.
Going back when he actually believed Cheney, when he said "we're not in Iraq for their Oil", and even Raed Jarrar couldn't get it in his skull,Iraqis want a total withdrawal of all foreign troops & reparations, then Ross got indignit
asking "why". Well WE invaded them Davey , and besides I never heard Iraqis rise up and say, invade and occupy our country for as long as you want . And to say we "don't kill Iraqis and destroy their homes " is a flat out lie , responding to Raed Jarrar .
Driving a hybrid and saving the whales male give him the veneer of being "liberal ", but he's the type when it hits the fan , he'll be signing up for the Homeland Security Snitch Program .

Dave Ross, some people are really TIRED of you cowardly hiding behind your facetious comments, when responding to callers, who say we are a "militaristic nation " and " we are in Iraq for OIL " and responding by saying in a raised tone " but were in Iraq to bring democracy and peace in the region" .
First of all, corporate media must really love the fact you sell yourself as a " liberal ' , when you conveniently leave out many FACTS, i.e. such as PNAC , The Downing Street Memo , or FULL SPECTRUM DOMINANCE ,something probably too deep , for your way of thinking .
The military dominance of the middle east or projecting U.S. power , has been written about by MANY war mongers and friends of Dick Cheney , even by himself .
So while you let a right wing caller off the hook , by no not responding by his idiotic and insulting comments " no sense crying over spilled milk " protesting or opposing the Iraq invasion , you criticize people who say we shouldn't follow the government in lock step, using the 30's analogy .
Not offending right wingers or not challenging U.S. foreign policy, seems to be your main objective, while you cowardly spin and HIDE behind the FANTASY , we are in Iraq " to bring democracy ", when you know DAMN WELL Cheney is a liar and we are there for control of their oil.
The majority of the OIL contracts are going to Chevron aND BP , bLAIR GOT HIS CUT by getting on the board of directors of JP MORGAN , who ALSO is profiting in Iraq .
I sense you'll be on the mic declaring resistance is futile , because ...it causes high blood pressure . Ya wanna have good health , don't ya ?
But of course Corporate lapdogs, rarely take a principle stand , as long as they can FOOL as many people as necessary .
