Friday oddems: michelle malkin's appeasiotomy; peculiar pontification; calvary to the rescue; the setter of moral standards, the geezer of darkness; a list of quiet birds; teresa joy!
~ Whoo boy. Michelle Malkin sure gets unmoored! She was sputtering Thursday ayem along with Kirby Wilbur (KVI m-f, 5-9a) over her latest crusade
against criminal aliens and foreign devils. (you could hear the spittle from her pretty lips missing the spittle-catcher and plopping against the mic like so many rotten eggs). It's darned inconvenient for the former Miss Maglalang and her posse comitatus that the man accused in the Zina Linna abduction/murder is NOT an illegal Mexican, but rather a legal resident from Thailand, and 8-year member of the elite Army Rangers.
~ Really? A Zina Bill? not sure what that would mean, but KIRO
drivetime geniuses Ron & Don (m-f,4-7p) are starting, when they
remember, a radio campaign for a ship'em-down-to-Oregon bill or maybe it's a
3-strikes-you're-castrated-law ala Billo Reilly or...it's all unclear-
they forgot to put in on their website.
.
~ NEW CONTRIBUTOR! We're really bored of the usual blah, blah,
blah moral arbiters like Michael
Medved, Bill Bennett, Pat
Robertson, and Glenn Beck, so we're bringing in The Setter of Moral Standards to help us
with the warp & woof of the moral compass. Today's Moral Standard: Separate your glass!
~From the Geezer of Darkness, Bob Novak: "I listen, sometimes
in the car radio on talk shows, the venom that comes out of the
mouths of some of these women, particularly- I’m not trying to be
sexist- but they’re so vicious toward [George Bush]. ... And also, the
bloggers, I don’t read the bloggers very much, but it is really, it’s
really vicious."
~ Perfect Politicians or Perfect Presidents?, the KPTK Forum last Saturday with liberal talkstars Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Mike Malloy, and the Young Turks that was so inspiring, provocative, and entertaining is now on video and available here.
~ That Goldy sure knows how to get the listeners and sock in the ol' TSL... IN OREGON! His (KIRO Saturday, Sunday, 7-10p) regular updates with TJ and Carla from Loaded Orygun on the finer points of Oregon state politics are positively, er, NPR-esque in their fascinatia for those of us IN WASHINGTON! Oregon politics are like BRITISH COLUMBIA's- you know you should be interested, but when push comes to shove, hell- you push.... the button that brings the relief of Matt Drudge who pontificates peculiarly on KVI at the same time as Goldy.
~ They were all so fucking wrong. So how do neocons like Michael Medved, Sean Hannity, and Dori Monsoon spin the Iraq fiasco now that Republicans like Senators John Warner and Pete Domenici support the plan John Murtha, whom they so thoroughly trashed, was proposing last year? Neoconservatism and indeed conservatism itself is entering a winter of discontent, that could last a generation or two.
~ Onward Christian soldiers, Dep't. Saucy KTTH news reader
Teresa Joy "truths on the news" with snide twists to
the right on her
stories. But maybe she should check into Vacation Bible School for a
little Christian rehab. That's where it's accurate to talk about Calvary,
the hill where they tacked up Jesus. Calvary (also known as Golgotha) hasn't a whit to do with Fort Lewis, and the cavalry-
as in 1st Cavalry Division which used to have something to do with
horses, but now has to do with Strykers. We don't want to crucify anybody, here-
despite her misspeaks and sarcastic truthing all over the news, Teresa,
a woman of a certain age, has her fans among our geezer population
(which is legion). We get yowza! letters every time we mention her name. Doubt Teresa's heart's really into politics- she hasn't voted since 2004.
~ He bites our hope."Some have said that [the Levin/Reed] is the
only amendment
with teeth. It does have teeth but I think we've got to
ask: who's it bite? I think it bites our hope." ~ Sen. Joe Lieberman. Reasonable people can agree: Joe Lieberman really bites. (Image: thanks, Duke_S)
~ General "No-politics-just-the-facts-ma'am" Petraeus went to talk radio Wednesday pumping everybody up for the straight, unvarnished, apolitical report he'll be delivering in September. We're feeling a little queasy already: who did he talk to? The answer is that Fair & Balanced guardian of democracy, Hew Hughit (KKOL m-f, 3- 6p). We didn't hear the interview, but Rush Limbaugh did and came away saying, "There is no civil war in Iraq." Uh-oh.
It's ain't that difficult to get, dep't: why are Congress's numbers even lower than Bush's, like rightie talkers have been harping for lo these last few weeks? Not because the people miss Republicans (they're irrelevant) it's because Congress is seen as timid about stopping the war and standing up to the president as the people demanded in November.
~ We've been needing a break (brake?) on reporting google keywords that bring you to BlatherWatch- it's getting really old and we're usually found by people searching for "naked Walmart girls," or "dry humping weasels," or "seboriasis," or "Michelle Malkin's appeasiotomy." But we had to share this one: it's so literary and, well, us. Somehow, someone found us by typing into the search box: "list of quiet birds."
~ "Furor over bigoted talkers or potty-mouth shock jocks obscures the real problem of precious airwaves controlled by a handful of corporations whose only interest is making money and who have no stake in the local city council or school system. The joy of radio was its individual quirkiness and hometown boosterism, joy that cannot be syndicated and force-fed by corporations." Wise words from Floyd J. McKay, a journalism professor emeritus at WWU, in the Seattle Times. Read the rest, here.
~ download the Bryant Park Project's latest newscasts here. NPR Next Generation hosts are they're getting good at what they're doing- which is creating a new format morning newscast to go head to head with Morning Edition.

How can this be posted at 3:24 pm? My computer clock says 1:34 pm. Hmm.
I'm thinking of giving Congress a bit of a break. Really, isn't this mess still the fault of the people who voted and some who didn't? The Dems have a slim (if any) majority in Congress. So, it is what it is. Apparently, this 70% disapproval of Bush didn't translate into real change.
I think the good citizens of Connecticut should hide their heads in shame.
What can we do now? Blame ourselves. (Except for WA State, of course.)

Floyd McKay was a newscaster/reporter in Portland when I was growing up. He was and remains great, a little nerdish, but he sure has written some biting criticizm of the state of media today.
Have you sent Stephanie her picture yet, Bla'M?? Your shot is way better than anything she has posted in the gallery section of her blog...

I'm waiting for Bla'M's "I got lucky" shot with/of Stephanie, but he's keeping it under the covers, so it seems.

It would be a good day for aramadamanutjob to do something stupid. With Cheney in charge, I am sure of swift punishment, inflicted with gusto by our Air Force.
Posted by: chucks | July 21, 2007 at 07:15 AM
Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to locate Bush's brain inside his rectum, so he has returned to power before Shooter could cause any damage.
Posted by: sparky | July 21, 2007 at 10:13 AM
How come our air force isn't in Iraq doing the surge? Oh, I forgot. That job belongs to our national guard - you know, the ones who are supposed to be protecting us at home.
Is that the job of our air force now?
I guess the Decider will decide, won't he? Reminds me of the Allstate insurance ads: You're in good hands with . . . oops!
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 10:16 AM
Good post, Sparky. (still laughing)
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 10:22 AM
That was funny sparks. I am still laughing to.
Joanie, the USAF is in Iraq.
Posted by: chucks | July 21, 2007 at 10:34 AM
Well, chucks, if they are there, what the hell are they waiting for?
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 10:38 AM
Also, what is "good punishment?" Bombing the hell out of everybody? That your answer for all of this. Just nuke 'em all.
Typical Christianofascist.
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 10:40 AM
joanie
They move troops and supplies in and out.
No need to nuke 'em all. Just take out aramdamadingdong and his closest advisers, set their nuke program back twenty years, and bomb the shit out of the bases where they are training the clowns that are killing our troops.
Just a good spanking is in order.
Typical ex-wife

The sad thing is we should have done this first instead of invading Iraq. These radical muzzy bastards in Iran have been attacking us by proxy for over 30 years. Prior to 9/11, most of our terrorist casualties can be traced directly to Iran. Some books that cover this:
"Guests of the Ayatollah"
Mark Bowden (Pulitzer author)
"See No Evil" Robert Baer
"The Persian Puzzle" Ken Pollack
Problem is, Bush won't listen to his own people like McFarland and Zinni- let alone those those outside bushland.
Posted by: mark | July 21, 2007 at 11:56 AM
You are so very right Mark.
I can't help but wonder where we would be today if either Carter or Reagan had dealt with Iran forcefully when they first started attacking us.
But, that is what is meant when it is said that that is all water under the bridge.
But now what do we do. Negotiating with these people will be as effective as having got Jeffrey Daumier (sp). to have become a vegetarian. You can't negotiate with the insane.
Posted by: chucks | July 21, 2007 at 12:21 PM
Yes that's right let just bomb Iran.
The Iranians just don't have a sense of humor .
I mean all we did was help overturn their elected government in 1953 and support Saddam in his war with them in 1980.
There's really no reason for them to not trust us.
January 2009 can't come soon enough for me, all you nut jobs will be put back where you belong.

apparently, Zina Linnik's murderer was registered to vote. I don't think he's necessarily a citizen. Gee, how did THAT happen? (Lax election rules, perhaps?)

HA HA HA HA HA AAA-HAHAHAHAHA!!!! ROFL OMG!!!!! DUDE that is SO CLASSIC!
You see, Bush's BRAIN was in his ASS!! I mean, it would have been but they couldn't find it! Because he's so stupid! Wait, I mean evil! Get it?! His brain is both in and not in his ass, and Cheney accidentally shot a guy!!!
Sparks, you are THE MAN!! Way to go!!! HAHAHAHA!
Posted by: anomolos | July 21, 2007 at 04:18 PM
ExPatBrit, you are asking these people to know their history. They'd rather pull it out of their asses . . . you know the kind, "might makes right." As chucks said, that's all water under the bridge . . . no need to learn from history, understand culture, or even think with our brains. Right, chucks?
I wonder if that is where the idea of conservatives being on the right came from? Hmmmm.
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 04:26 PM
Allow me to paraphrase every post joanie has ever made:
"Conservatives are stupid, right, guys?"
Posted by: anomolos | July 21, 2007 at 04:37 PM
right, anal.
Posted by: Jim Malso | July 21, 2007 at 05:24 PM
Joanie, where did you get your facts for this quote of yours...
"Oh, I forgot. That job belongs to our national guard - you know, the ones who are supposed to be protecting us at home."
Posted by: nevets | July 21, 2007 at 07:47 PM
In 1980 Saddam severely underestimated the ferocity with which the Iranians would fight back. Even with US arms and tacit support later in the war he barely hung on.
If commander codpiece + shooter decide to attack Iran it will be quagmire number 3.
Except this will involve fighting almost 70,000,0000 more people.
Most conservatives do not support an Iran adventure.
And no anomolos, not all conservatives are stupid.
You however seem to fit the mold, so pick up a history book sometime.
Posted by: ExPatBrit | July 21, 2007 at 07:51 PM
Screw your learning culture crap joanie. when the mu-slim terrorist decide to quit trying to kill westerners to advance their agenda, then we can concern ourselves with culture.
I know that it is not PC to take the attitude to kill them before they kill us. Tough titties. I support the kill them first program.
You can stand behind that pantie waste senator from Nevada and all the rest of the democrat politicians who would sell off our nation for power. That is your right as a progressive, but I choose to stand with the real men who defend your right to be an atheist ex wife Christian bashing piss ant.
Thank God our President has the courage to stand up for what is right instead of cowering to political winds. Thanks to him for not listening to our Free press, who has a hard on for anything conservative or patriotic.
Posted by: chucks | July 21, 2007 at 08:01 PM
That looks kind of mean to me.
Maybe this drinking liberaly on a Sat night and then posting is not a good idea.
Sorry about calling you a piss ant joanie.
Think I'll go up stairs and watch the tv and forget about posting tonite.
Posted by: chucks | July 21, 2007 at 08:17 PM
NevetS, I got it from the parent of my student and who is in the National Guard and just returned from Iraq. Anything else?
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 08:30 PM
Well, chucks - when you are reading again - if you think we will solve our problems by fighting - and killing I presume - the whole world, I beg to differ.
But, since you are not in the mood nor equipped to handle "reason," I guess I will leave it to you to have your way.
And, your way, will kill us all. So be it.
Why are boys so into war toys?
Posted by: joanie | July 21, 2007 at 08:35 PM
hey, I kin still ride a bike, make toast and act kinda effeminate. thas my job.
Posted by: bush'diseased colon | July 21, 2007 at 08:36 PM
Joanie, then why didn't you like a good little teacher correct her like you would would have done to the parents child if he/she would have made a mistake. You afraid the parent would have taken the ruler out of your hand and used it on you instead. No, you heard it on Randi's show and for you that is as close to the truth as something can get. Again listening to her makes you look stupid, when will you ever learn.
Posted by: nevets | July 22, 2007 at 07:52 AM
ExpatBrit, kinda funny coming from you- as your WW1 leadership fubared the area in 1919. Kermit Roosevelt guided the coup that toppled Mossadeqeq (sp.?) in 1953. Their rage from that lasted until 79, when the Shah fled - and they (including that psycho midget Ahmadinijad) took our embassy. So I have no hard feelings about us helping Saddam slaughter Iranians.
No, we should not invade Iran -it's too late and our Army is stretched too thin. But our Air Force is not too busy and can easily zap anybody crossing the border there- and with J-STARS trace them back and zap where they came from too.
Posted by: mark | July 22, 2007 at 04:08 PM
I don't get your point, Mark. It was a bipartisan coup? Is that what you're saying?
Posted by: joanie | July 22, 2007 at 04:56 PM
No, I am pretty sure it was on the behest of Ike. Kermit Roosevelt IIRC was the grand nephew of Teddy- nothing like FDR.
Posted by: mark | July 22, 2007 at 11:01 PM
Gun control should be required for those who take prozac and other psychotropic drugs.
I see that Ward Churchill was finally fired from University of Colorado. I would call him far left and a living testimony to extreme liberalism being a mental disorder. Of course, the ACLU is coming to his defense - doesn't matter whether its hate speech (saying that Al-Qaeda's victims on 9-11 were little Eichmans..) that he was dismissed for - its because his political agenda is in cahoots with the ACLU.
Posted by: KS | July 25, 2007 at 10:16 PM
Actually there were other things Churchill was dismissed for like plagurizing and teaching revisionist history repeatedly. He claimed to be part native American, but that has been questioned. Good riddance !
Posted by: KS | July 25, 2007 at 10:20 PM
I misread your first post. Entirely agree with your point. It is right on. Moussodegh (?) was a democratically elected President who wanted to nationalize oil. Some things never change, do they?
