Good ol' gal, reporter, humorist, and Texas liberal of record, Molly Ivins died Thursday from complications of the breast cancer she'd battled since 1999. Right-wing cheers notwithstanding, she will be missed- she had many friends in Seattle. You know who you are and our thoughts are with you today.

So sad...she was brilliant, caustic, courageous and hilarious. Damn! It just ain't fair.....!

I just love it when pro-lifers cheer someone's death. Just tugs at the heartstrings.

Wake-up call folks.
Funny that Bush et al wants us to be afraid of terrorism. With friends like Freepers, who needs terrorists?

Molly Ivins was a gifted writer. My own personal favorite quote was the one she gave on Pat Buchanan after his strident speech at the 1992 Repub Convention in Houston which called out on the topic of culture war, etc. It was a harsh speech aimed at moderates/liberals.
Molly's quote summed it up best,
'It was probably better in its original German'
In one line she summed it up in a humorous yet bittingly accurate fashion.
Whatever side of the political fence you are on, you should always recognize talent or truth. While she wasn't perfect -ask Florance King- her talent for writing is unquestioned.

Bla'm
Thank you for the link on Ivins. Hard to believe that anyone would rejoice at the cancer death of someone with whom they had had political disagreements. Very shameful. And those who accept it when it comes from their 'side' are complicit.
So to all those who engage in that crap just understand your revealing yourself.

Why is it "hard to believe" as far as you're concerned? It's been going on for years, as recently as last year, Pills Limbaugh laughed at Micheal J Fox' parkinsons. Others have had similar lapses of judgement. Go figure.

I used it as in 'its beyond the pale.'

anychance that c-span will run the molly ivins, al franken, and bill o'reilly segment at the miami bookfaire? the look on her face while franken and o'reilly went at it was priceless.
Posted by: pugetsound | February 03, 2007 at 08:15 PM
That was perhaps the best segment on CSPan's book tv ever! They replayed the thing at least five times that I know of . . . I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

hey joanie
i listed my favorite quote from ms. ivins, what was yours?
Posted by: pugetsound | February 03, 2007 at 08:26 PM
I don't have a favorite . . . give me a list and I'll choose one. I admire everything she said and wrote.
Like asking for your favorite Mark Twain quote - too many from which to choose just one.
Franken and Dubose did a great tribute to her yesterday. Often, it was her delivery that brought life to her words.
Posted by: joanie | February 03, 2007 at 08:30 PM
your right, she had many good lines.
when i read her stuff i would try and read it in her voice. but the one on buchanan's controversial 1992 republican houston convention speech saying it probably sounded better in its original german was just spot on brilliant.
good humor always rings true.
