~ Mammaries are made of this, dep't. Sex, the Internet and Republicans- they go together like a Caesar salad. We love this stuff- seems Rhys Davis, 54, a radio DJ in Grays Harbor running as a Republican for county commissioner was suspended for a week from his job at Sunny 102.1, when a website he'd put up four years ago celebrating perky distaff milk glands turned back up in the middle of his campaign. Called "Racks by Rhys," the site featured the cleavage, and fully-frontals of bare naked women. A headline declared that breasts were his hobby. “I regret this and I’m big time sorry,” Davis said. His political career may be racked up for good- he was hoping to capture the District 3 seat for the Republicans for the first time in 50 years. Memo to Republicans who need a gland for hobby: try the pineal- it's an up and coming gland and is known as "the family gland." (hat tip to fireflynw).

Air America is having financial problems - that explains Malloy's departure - it can't be too soon when Stuart Smalley gets the hook next.
http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2006/08/air-america-radio-finances-associated.html
Yes, he is a notorious f'n right-winger, but there is evidence to what is written. However, Air America keeps getting those cash infusions from the minions of George Soros to keep them on the air for a little while longer. Air America cannot survive on its own merits - there is talent out there, but it doesn't sell - just like Bush's argument of why we need to stay in Iraq - in spite of the ratings being respectable in leftist bastions like cities along the left coast, Looks like the world does not revolve around the left coast :(

That isn't wrong and stupid. It is a stale argument and the only part that may be true is that attacks by Islamofascists could be more likely that terrrorists would attack us in our own streets if we leave altogether, then abandon Afghanistan. They should bring a good number of troops back within the next year, then station them along the Mexican border - so we would be doing a better job at fighting the war on terrorism here, which involves securing the borders. If Bush doesn't OK that, he is the Quisling.
The next radio show that KIRO should embark on is the bloginators featuring Sharkansky vs. Goldstein. It would follow the format of the commentators - the only question is could those two remain civil by themselves or would there need to be an enforcer present ?

Franken is going to run for Senate in MN anyway, so new big scoop there

I wonder if Malloy was too controversial for AA right now? I miss him.
Klueless: that may be true is that attacks by Islamofascists could be more likely that terrrorists would attack us in our own streets if we leave altogether, then abandon Afghanistan.
What the heck are we paying the CIA and FBI to do? Maybe we can save some money by just using the military to attack everybody we're afraid of or who might not like us or we might not like . . . we could station the military in our own streets! Now that's an idea!
I wonder how the Constitution survived the Civil War, WW1 and WW2 not to mention Viet Nam and Grenada.

That and the Bill of Rights survived when the White House was under attack in 1812, Tom Hartmann makes a point of this when Rummy and others claim we need to get used to a new climate after 9/11
Posted by: stodge charger | September 01, 2006 at 11:43 AM
Malloy's site says AA told him it was financial but who really knows for sure.
Thinking about how many times I've heard it said "never again" when discussing the internment of so many good Japanese-Americans during WW2.
On Dave Ross today people were talking about deporting Muslims again . . . We need another charismatic liberal leader who can again convince the American people "that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." (Course, he was talking about the economic realities of the Great Depression.)
Does it strike anybody else that liberals seem to be braver, more courageous, than conservatives?

Sure joanie, that must be why so many liberals rush to sign up for our all-volunteer military in this country. Sheesh.

Damn! I'm flying to Mexico tomorrow, so I'll miss the heralded Webb-drama. Take tons of pix, Nate! Unlike Sparky, I will NOT be taking my laptop, as it would most likely be consfiscated by Homeland Security for my being a Blatherblogger. Nor will I be taking any poison liquid or gel in my carry-on or in my Nikes, but I refuse to leave my drugs at the airport (I might have to consume them all before embarking.) I sincerely hope this blog won't suffer critically from my absence, (or criticize me insufferably) and that the testosterone levels are kept in check by Sparks, Joans, et. al...
The protested "red state" Mexican presidential election "stolen" from the leftist candidate, Lopez Obrador, needs my support. I hope I can be as effective as I was in our own contested elections...(LOL)!
So, hasta mas tarde and look for me on the teevee....I'll be wearing a Blatherwatch t-shirt and carrying a sign que dice "NO GRINGOS".

I fully expect for Air America to not be there one day soon.
They have nearly no "good" affiliates. One only FM station (in Madison, WI), most are very poor daylight-only AM stations above 1200 kHz.
Lost their NYC affiliate. Now on WWRL in Queens (1600, blah!). Lost a major one in Ohio, poor coverage in Atlanta.
So far it's not happening.
The question is why? Why can't Air America make it?
Is it poor programming? Is it Al Franken's poor delivery? Is it all the same all the time? Nothing but Bush rants?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Posted by: Marsha | September 01, 2006 at 01:34 PM
Ditto, Sparky . . . and we'll be lookin' for ya on TV!
Marsha, Franken is not all Bush rants. He has so many good guests. But, his delivery could be improved. Still, I think he's got a good show. There are a lot of ranters on at other times but how is that different than conservative radio?
I don't know what the deal is with other AA stations, but KPTK really needs a local host. Why they don't get that is beyond me.
Posted by: joanie | September 01, 2006 at 01:52 PM
KPOJ is a strong affliate in Portland. Local would be fine on KPTK if they took off Bubba and put in someone like Ron Reagan...but I dont want to lose any of the other ones that are already on the list...

Shiers in for Monson today . . . talking the new rule requiring pharmacists to dispense Plan B, he let one talker equate selling cigarettes with Plan B but made the next talker justify equating selling Amoxycillin withPlan B.
The first talker was against the new rule instituted by our controlling and coercive gov (Frank's take); the second caller was pointing out that the pharmacist's responsibility is to dispense what doctors prescribe.
Sort of a double standard Frank? I might have argued that cigarettes are not prescribed nor are they considered "medical" in any way.
Posted by: joanie | September 01, 2006 at 02:09 PM
Agree, Sparky. I'm on board with all of the others and I don't think any of them just rant . . . but ranting is okay because conservatives made it so.
Posted by: joanie | September 01, 2006 at 02:11 PM
Shiers just isn't good enough!
Posted by: sclub | September 01, 2006 at 03:32 PM
Frank handled himself better today . . . fewer interruptions - I didn't hear any - and no time outs and no buddies - so I listened to him! Amazing!
But, he ended the program with a caller who said she thought the Brit movie in which Bush gets assassinated was fine and nothing that Rush doesn't do frequently on radio. Frank had the last word by saying that he'd never heard Rush advocate assassination.
Well, neither does the movie! It uses the device of a Bush assassination to explore the afternath and the war against terror. It is done in a documentary style and the intent is to raise questions regarding foreign policy and the effect the war is having generally.
" "It's a fairly attention-grabbing premise but behind that is a serious and thought-provoking film."
Why does Frank sensationalize so? He could have told the whole story and then discussed it. That would have been more interesting to me. Instead he gets a rise out of a lot of knee-jerk conservatives and raises everybody's blood pressure!
Sorry, Sparky, Frank is better sometimes than Bubba . . . and that's hard t admit! :) (And you'll never read me saying it again, Frankie.)
Posted by: joanie | September 01, 2006 at 04:08 PM
Well I have never listened to Frankie, but I would admit that just about anyone is better than Bubba...Luckily, my school has not blocked streaming so I can listen to KGO or I tune to KINK in Portland for music....

I don't think Malloy was fired for a lack of money to pay him. He was one of the lowest paid hosts on AA. But I strongly suspect that the firing was financial in the sense that AA probably feared that Malloy's strident and abrasive liberalism would scare away (or has scared away) advertisers.
The jury should still be out on AA. They've done a good job of expanding their station base. Some of their hosts have done a good job ratings wise in competing with likes of Fartpants, Savage and Hannity. The right wing gets more ratings, but they've had decades to buy up media outlets and perfect their message. AA should be given the chance as well.

Maybe they could hold pledge drives ala NPR?
Forget towns like Wapato or the Tri-Cities I really thought in towns such as Seattle or Portland that AA could find a fairly strong audience.
In terms of advertisers, controversial types such as Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity, et al don't seem to have a problem. After all, 'Progressives' buy tires, need gutter helmuts, anda place to repair their windshields. I always thought KVI or KTTH would have a harder time in Seattle than a progressive station.
So why can't the AA message resonate amongst people who share their views in numbers great enough that advertisers wish to put money on the line. What's with the core audience that is scaring away advertisers? They got green to spend.
Or maybe I am wetter than the Sound. Maybe AA is awash in advertising dollars with lots of money.

Insightful comment. I've been concerned about that for quite a while. He's the most aggressive radio host imaginable! And I love it! I agree that it takes time to build an audience. Did you see the "August numbers for CNN, MSNBC and FOX?" I think things are looking up for liberal media.
Also, wonder to what degree NPR siphons off listeners?
Posted by: joanie | September 01, 2006 at 09:38 PM
Part of the reason for the falling off of FOX news is that they have become more liberal than last year at this time. True Story ! Rupert Murdock is a campaign donor to Hillary Clinton and he has brought on more liberals and they look more like CNN than a year ago - Van Sustern, for one is not conservative.
Even with the increased viewership of CNN (Al -Jazerra America) and MSNBC (more snotty nonsense by cretins - like the narcissist madman; Keith Olbsurdman) and lower numbers by FOX they still have almost twice as many viewers as CNN and 3 times more than MSNBC.
Posted by: KS | September 01, 2006 at 09:55 PM
Just looked at the AA website and they show Mike Malloy filling in for Randi this week. I don't get that because I heard a repeat of Randi this evening. So, wonder what's going on?
There is also a blog on which people are talking about Mike and his dismissal. It is right on the main AA website.

"Our global furnace is out of control. By 2020, 2025, you will be able to sail a sailboat to the North Pole. The Amazon will become a desert, and the forests of Siberia will burn and release more methane and plagues will return."
Sulfurous musings are not Lovelock's characteristic style; he's no Book of Revelation apocalyptic. In his 88th year, he remains one of the world's most inventive scientists, an Englishman of humor and erudition, with an oenophile's taste for delicious controversy. Four decades ago, his discovery that ozone-destroying chemicals were piling up in the atmosphere started the world's governments down a path toward repair. Not long after that, Lovelock proposed the theory known as Gaia, which holds that Earth acts like a living organism, a self-regulating system balanced to allow life to flourish.
Biologists dismissed this as heresy, running counter to Darwin's theory of evolution. Today one could reasonably argue that Gaia theory has transformed scientific understanding of the Earth."

Dori hada guy on today running for City Council who teaches a class about questioning what actually happened on 911. Monson tried to bully him and turn him imto some wack job, but the guy was too clever for him and wouldn't let him bully him into a box. He made it clear his class represented all sides, and gave equal weight to those public figures/writers that don't believe anything other than what the government says happened. When he failed at his bullyboy job, he reverted to his "high school male cheerleader" voice. pathetic.
