~~Michael Kenneth Webb, (as he's known downtown) former KIRO talk host postponed the inevitable again today. His attorney appeared in Judge Helen L. Halpert's court this morning to set over his omnibus hearing and trial dates for the charges of insurance fraud against him. This is the fourth time he's delayed the proceedings. New dates: omnibus hearing, June 30; trial, July 12.
~~We're sorry for the blogging hiatus this week- Old Man Blather was working/romping/mange-ing up a storm in New York and pretending there's no such thing as bloggery, puffery or buggery. We did, however spy Sean Hannity walking along 7th Ave. near 32nd St., talking on a cellphone and spitting out bits of butter that apparently wouldn't melt in his mouth. This is the closest The Blathe has had to a talk radio celebrity sighting since we found ourselves (you know what we mean) at adjacent urinals with Lt. Bryan Suits (KVI m-f, 5-7p) at the EMP in 2000. Both encounters were sad and strangely forgettable.
~~Better late than never, dep't. Finally the Bush FCC has been shamed into getting into the act and it's more troubles for Entercom. Since 2004, they, with Clear Channel, CBS Radio, and Citadel have been investigated for payola (illegal play for pay) by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who sued Entercom in February alleging that execs had implemented institutional systems trading cash for airplay. Wednesday, the Federal Communications Commission launched formal investigations of the four large radio corporations. Entercom not only owns the Seattle talk stations, KIRO, and KTTH, we're always blabbing about, but also big gnarly music stations around town like The Mountain, oldies KBSG, rocker KISW, new country KKWF, and alternative KNDD. Entercom has denied the charges.
~~Mike Webb can't quite make up his mind whether we're homophobic or gay- or both, as he is. Could someone please explain this mysterious message posted on his website this week?
"So tonight we'll hear some feedback from readers and listeners about the "piece" written by Seattle Weekly and we'll match it up with the latest Front Page Headlne and see if a story about a Radio Blogger named Michael H. Butterworth visiting gay nightclubs really ranks or not. You decide." HUH?
~~check out Old Man Blather's piece "Middle Class Crack: The Addiction Next Door " in the brand new Seattle Magazine. It's not online, so go read it standing up in the supermarket or subscribe here. It's a fascinating read and don't miss the restaurant review of the hot Queen Anne restaurant, Veil, also penned-up snottily by the grizzly old fuck.
~~We stand corrected. This is a little wonky, but we said The Commentators, that weekdaily verbal spat (KOMO 10a-12p) between John Carlson and KOMOTV's Ken Schram's "...first 3-month ratings trend put KOMO's Middays (10a-3p), at 23rd out of about 24." KOMO suits write to say that it's only 5 out of 12 weeks, since The Taters didn't start until the end of January. "The first month of this latest trend is December. The Winter rating period started on January 5th and by verification of your own blog, dated January 18th 2006, the show didn't start until January 30th, 2006. So even the Winter rating book won't be a full 12 weeks of The Commentators. We won't get an accurate 'official' rating period until the Spring 2006 Book. The next trend after the Winter book comes out (the phase-1 trend of the Spring book) will be a full 12 weeks of The Commentators. We'll get that around the end of May. "
~~We love to be corrected. Most of the time, radio management and talent pretends to ignore us instead of asking us to set the record straight. If we make inaccurate statements, don't suffer and call us names behind our back. That only hurts our feelings and your untruth still stands- please call us on it.

July 12.....when everyone is out playing in the sun and nobody will be paying attention....slick move Mr. Webb!

Webb is one crazy MF, but he is still One of Us.

Indeed, he can help us with the mobile, GOP extermination vehicles

Gotta tell ya Mike, I never darkened the EMP's doorstep until late 2002 when I began here at Fisher.
And besides, how can you overlook my stealthy appearance at the Alan Prell "Drinking Liberally" several months ago?
Lets not get personal now. You'll be at my level.

Not that I don't WANT to pee next to you.
Posted by: Bad Lieutenant | April 21, 2006 at 05:35 PM
You guys should shed Webb and move on to Mike . . . Malloy! More interesting and just as passionate but with a lot more tact and consideration for callers. AA online 7-10 I think??? maybe 7-11 . . .

Hey Bry: It was June of 2000, friday of the opening weekend of EMP. We were in the press room in the morning, there was coffee, danish, a producer. You guys were doing a live remote from there. I was working for a wire service. (I was wearing black; you had on the camo fuck-me pumps). You talked about digging up mass graves in Bosnia. I didn't get to talk, you were monologuing.
Sorry I missed you at DL, you should come on down again- we could fill a bladder or two, and empty them in the proscribed manner that we both apparently enjoy...

So by "on of us" do you mean the Lyndon LaRouche "us"? (because I think that would be "one of them")

Mike Webb does more to hurt the liberal cause than help- and now has his tit in a wringer and many lining up to give it a spin. Wonder what he will get for punishment?

A one ana two . . . "Hang on Stevens and Cheney's Got a Gun"

If this Brian Lacey guy is an example of a typical Styble-hater, then he's not doing that crowd any favors. I see "he hopping" for Turi Ryder to take Lou's place, LOL. Well, he can keep hopping 'til his leg gets sore, but I for one like Styble in that time slot. He's Type A, to put it mildly, but keeps things interesting and doesn't limit the topics of discussion like other hosts always do. Count me an unapologetic Styble fan.

Hay Anthony ! I just guessing ?? when your done with the stiblehead show is that you standing out in the street waiting for the small bus for a ride back to the hospital? remember to have on your white helmet with the Large chin strap, Iam sure Tom From Kiro well save you a seat On the Small bus! An yes Anthony Turi She is a HOTTEY! Still and always your new best buddy
Posted by: Brian In Lacey | April 24, 2006 at 07:08 AM
I thinking that Anthony must be a nurd ! and remember Anthony When you are waiting for the Small bus ( HA HA ) Stand on the side of it to get a ride just dont stand in front And Save us your A stybleheader! it just bad radio have a good one there Anthony and rememebr the slide ruler goes in the back pack , not the front pockett of your shirt ha ha

yeah Styble the Boy Genius is type A all right. That's A for A-hole. This guy is as pretentious and haughty as Fred Ebert but without the academic background. He came on Blatherwatch here a while back and berated me for not knowing he was Bryan With a Y, and when Lou Pate was coming back from vacation. SmalL-minded crap from an all-city champ anal-retentive. KIRO is too cheap to pay for quality in the dead of night, so we listeners end up getting hosed with the likes of Pate and Styble. Turi would be acceptable in that slot- Styble is not.
Posted by: Tommy008 | April 24, 2006 at 09:08 AM
We can agree to disagree, Tommy. Bryan has been almost overly self-effacing and defensive about his personality and intellect when I've listened to him. I can easily see why you think the way you do, though. As for Brian and Dan, they sound like the same guy.
Posted by: Anthony | April 25, 2006 at 12:45 AM
So Anthony your the guy !
Posted by: Scott | April 25, 2006 at 06:02 AM
Bad Lieutenant: I agree. I skip over to Airhead America when the comedy channel is running commercials every now and then. I happened to catch Mike Malloy the other day. He is a lot like Webb but way more civil to callers yet still manages to keep all the rage and profanity that we all enjoy so much. Plus, bonus, his foil hat seems so much bigger...
